You're doing a great job of selling your services there...
-
Just wondering where the difficulty is there? I find the tool invaluable for quick and dirty code reading on various OBD2 equipped cars that come and go from my drive...
-
I'm not sure, but you might need to send them in more than one consignment with youshop? Another option I've used for me Datsun bits is http://www.kiwishipping.co.nz/, which are great value if you are bringing in a whole lot of bulky stuff. On another note, I see the Kiwi is getting stronger against the US again ;-)

Big effort and great work, I don't think a prospective buyer could ask for more. However, you'd never make a successful dealer! The last car I bought (an 06 Legacy GT) came from an Auckland dealer via TM. The listing had things like "not been mistreated at all" and "no dents." With the really crappy low res photos, I could just make out some issues with it from the pictures and had to really probe the guy about those areas to get any semblance of truth out of him. But what I couldn't see was mint of course, according to him... But when he meets me at the airport, it starts to become apparent what a POS this car is. Over spray everywhere, the odd dent, the dash was rooted, bits of exterior trim barely holding on - and that's just what I could see in what was left of the early evening light. Any other day I would have walked away from it, but I had no other options, as had just sold my old car that weekend, just missed out on the car I had lined up, got screwed over by another seller in Auckland, and needed wheels for work and school run etc - I've only got myself to blame for getting into such a predicament, but the moral is, if the pictures a rubbish, there's a good chance the car is too. The saving grace was that it was a cheap and mechanically sound car (touch wood).

Nice work. I used to pay the odd visit to Mr Mosen's garage in Cambridge, probably almost 25 years ago as a teen. I remember getting very close to buying a 2002ti off the other mechanic he used to share the yard with at the time...should have done it. Not that the 260z I bought instead of ever disappointed...good times.

MHD tune and my downpipes ;-) Sweet looking ride btw!

You need an Android phone or tablet, an OTG cable, appropriate OBD2 to USB cable and then a trip to the Google Play store to download the MHD app and maps (that bit will run you a couple a hundy). You also want to have the car plugged into a batter charger for the circa 38 minute upgrade process. Plenty of guides out there, have a read up so you know what to expect and don't freak out and bail on the upgrade part way through. Good luck...it's well worth the effort ;-)

Cool, thanks for the update. The box going into mine only has 60k on it, while the outgoing is more like 170+ and was slipping when hot on the 4th to 5th upshift. I've got a new pan and bolts but hadn't considered the mechatronic sleeve...guess I better look into it. Do you know of a "cheap" source for the Dex VI? Cheers

Yeah, like I said, they do now but I'm pretty sure they weren't a year ago...not sure at what point they started showing both values, but it's certainly a good move.
-
How did you get on with this Olaf? I've got a new (to me) 6HP19 going into my 335i and have the same conundrum...what fluid and what's it going to cost me... I've brought a lot of bits in from the US but I don't think we can bring in fluids like oil without jumping through some hoops...
-
Guys, word of warning here. It looks like things may have changed now with the current MHD tunes, as they list both values, but when i was playing with it a year or so ago (before i killed my engine), I believe what they called Stage 1 98 was actually for the US octane measure, not our measure which uses RON. By comparison, RON is about 4-5 points optimistic, so our "98" is actually 93 in US money. Might explain why some were having pre detonation on the relatively conservative OTS maps.

Dudes, I've got a used pair of cat free downpipes if anyone's keen. Looking for $390. Was going to put them on TM but maybe I don't need to...

[Hawkes Bay] Any Decent Indie Mechanics in the Bay?
NakiTouring replied to Mack10's topic in Maintenance
"Indie Mechanics" That's a term I haven't heard since living in the UK. Here they probably think you should be on a motorcycle forum ;-) -
Haha, once bitten, twice shy...

People, does anyone have a N series rear crank seal removal / install tool kit I can rent? Happy to pay a suitable bond too. Thanks.
-
Maybe the cam chain has stretched? I had that on a VQ25 Nissan Stagea once. Same sort of errors, CEL, limp mode sort of stuff. Thought I had the same sort of issue on my 335I, but that was a somewhat more serious issue with the crank bolt coming loose...not good.

Hey mate, did you get this done?

Make that 6.5 litres for an oil change.
-
Nice special on that drop but you really should be using a 5w-30 and at least API SN and ll-01, or better still, ll-04. You can get 5 litres of STP branded for 60 something bucks at supercheap normally, better still on special. You need 7 litres but...get a big waste oil pan too!
-
That sounds like bloody good value. I'll be keen to hear how it goes.

I tend to hook up the battery charger - trickle seems to suffice. And if I'm doing a long flash with MHD, I also pull fuse number 70 to stop the LPFP constantly whirring away for 38 minutes. Depending on what you read, both ECU and TCU flashes should have a reset of adaptions after. So after the MHD update today, I reset the throttle adaptions from the app, fired up the engine, off again and disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for about 10 mins...I guess that bit's worth about 2 hundy...
-
Just upgraded my MHD ECU flash today. I see now it has an option for cars equipped with the Alpina Flash. Can't say that I noticed any significant difference, although I reset the throttle adaptions, so may still be learning.

Flashed it myself. Unless you are struggling to give your money away, grab a $20 cable off Amazon, download the 4gigs of software required for coding, follow easy tutorial to install and setup and get your hands dirty. Once you have this, you can do so much more than just flash your trans. Not sure what the rules are here regarding posting urls to such online guides...personally I find it outrageous that people charge multiple hundreds for such a service when they would have learnt it from online guides in the first place...
-
Just occurred to me that you would probably be running the latest version, which limits boost by gear...ie the first 2 or 3 gears have boost limited in order to put the juice to the floor more efficiently and nanny the trans. Maybe that's why you aren't getting the initial hit you were expecting?
