8-10k sounds about the right for a decent one, they are maintenance money pits. Top one sold recently so someone is flipping it after fixing it.

My 4.4i is a great drive but has indeed been a money pit. 😐

  2. X5 is back!

    • transmission running fine
    • Needed two new rear tyres (315s are expensive BTW :) ) which I supposed it needed a year ago... sorted by Driscolls.
    • Right wing mirror LCD has bled out (mostly) and have ordered a replacement set of aftermarket non-chromatic heated mirrors for $NZ44 - the price on BMW original was crazy.
    • fresh WoF and rego brought up to date with VTNZ

Really do enjoy driving it - heavier feel than the X3 and just really comfortable.

X3 has had the aircon serviced/gassed - necessary for Summer!

Good news on the F30 sale @TermiPeteNZ - any progress on the X5 transmission?

Indeed, it is! Feels weird with fewer vehicles at home...

    • Chasing up Zane re the X5...
    • M5 is in for faulty alternator AND stuffed aircon compressor
    • X3 dropped off today - low pressure detected on new LR 21" RFT - slow leak - meh

I've ended up buying a new A/C compressor from Turner Motorsport for the M5 after coughing up for the alternator locally.

    • New compressor locally $1950+GST w/12-month wty
    • 2nd hand with 3-month wty $600+GST
    • Turner new Denso compressor with lifetime replacement $US613 including freight, excluding GST

  4. Ouchy - 21" tyres for the X3 M40i - not cheap ... put on new WiperTech wipers - seem very good so far.

Just chased up Zane re my E53 with the troubled transmission - been out there for some time. 🤔 Have rego on hold...

Also (finally) done all the rest of the coils on the M5.

Had very few bites on the F30 335i - not a wonderful time to be selling cars in Welly methinks.

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to update this, I've purchased this car - it needs some TLC but it has been very well taken care of mechanically (BM Workshop history) previous owner is an absolute legend and BMW enthusiast with a wealth of knowledge.

I will admit it took some convincing for him to sell the car but happy i got it over the line.

    Congrats!!!

  6. Just listed my F30 335i on Trademe... since I've replaced this and my currently kaput X5 with an X3 M40i... asking $20K, $18K for Bimmmersporter...

I think @TermiPeteNZ may have some input on this?

My E53 is the original 4.4i with the ZF 5HP24... slipping in 3rd & 4th and I'm having it transported back to Zane who did the rebuild end of next week .See what happens I suppose 😕

You can drop a lot(!) on a decent rebuild and it can still fail - but not many 2nd hand transmissions around as far as I can see.

  8. X5

    • Driscolls let me know that it is slipping in 3rd and 4th. They talked to Zane who did the rebuild who didn't have any advice ... it would need to be cracked open and who knows what the story will be 😕
    • I've asked them to cast around for a 2nd hand 5HP24 as a practical alternative - but no joy jet. @hqstu must have cornered the market!

    M5

    • Aircon was blowing cold, then warm on the way home. Driscolls have re-gassed it and noted that the heater tap is slow to close - I did have issues some time ago with the aircon pumping out hot air so this is likely the cause. Believe it is a pain to get to. Anyway - aircon is cold now!

Geez that is rough mate. Those ZF5hp24’s eh.. Do you know if they put a new pressure regulator in it when they rebuilt it last?

The rebuild by Zane was *comprehensive* and def included pressure ...regulator.

Haven't heard back re prognosis on the X5 or M5 so no real new news, other than that the X5 needed a charge before the diags could be run 🤔. I'm hopeful there is a battery-related issue rather than actual trans failure -battery/power issue can lead to the transmission setting itself into limp mode according to Les at Driscolls. Recently I had to jumpstart the X5 ... so we'll see!
