FYI I changed out my stock mufflers to straight through mufflers and it was too loud in the low RPM range and not loud enough up top.

Ended up with a fair bit of drone and a weird cyclic harmonic effect when cruising.  That and it didn't seem that loud when giving it stick.

In a moment of supreme idiocy (and 'I saw it on the internet') I muffler deleted my E60 545i and the drone almost made me physically ill. 🤮

  2. Congrats on the M5! Have an E60 M5 myself and just had the rod bearings done - absolutely love it.

I'm a sad sack and track the M5 market so have seen this one come up for sale a cople of times. Love the individual interior on your vehicle - piano black trim plus light leather and headlining - very unusual! Nice to hear you're bringing it back to stock....

  3. Welcome Mox! Glad you're enjoying the 325i Msport 👍

    1. dunno about that 🤷‍♂️
    2. best to order a key from your local dealer
    3. It is *possible* to retrofit newer BMW systems but *complex* and expensive; otherwise try aftermarket but will still cost some $$ so you only want to do this if keeping the car longer term...

    4. Either
      1. stick to run flats - costly, more road noise
      2. use regular tyres and hope you are lucky
      3. throw a space saver in the boot
      4. buy some tyre goop for emergencies

  4. Have to say I'm a fan of Meguiars PlastX - super fast, easy headlight restoration job. Very little work compared to the Rain-X kit and makes a real difference. In fact, I'm always looking at peoples' headlights and thinking 'give me 10 minutes and those can look great'! 🙄 Used this on the M5 and X5...

@Olaf I'm not sure there's anything worse than an S85 V10 for fuel economy...

Average showing 16.7l/100km at the mo after being away at the BMW Club National Meet near Taupo :)

335i DD is showing 10.9 average and the X5 4.4i sits around 15.6 - both urban use figures.

    Or rod bearings...or vanos...

    Bearings - done ; Vanos line - done! :)

In no way shape or form does adding X5 M really make sense - but ... life is short so fun matters!

  6. M5 update

    • All going well ...
    • Got Tony from Wheel Magician Welly to tidy up the two right wheels - much nicer and I can stop grimacing when looking at them. No before pics as sorting these was a 'might as well do it now' decision

    X5

    • Have had the brake light trifecta pop up randomly when cruising along - then on next restart, cleared. Jon read the codes and it was reporting 'brakes hot'??? and pressure sensor error
    • So it has been in for a thorough service...
      • replace faulty viscous fan hub
      • checked diff oil levels, replace transfer case oil as it was dark
      • brake bleed
      • install new ABS pump - to cover the pressure sensor error, and I've had the new ABS pump sitting idle since it came with the new ECU installed some time ago
      • replace leaking washer motor
      • fix puncture in spare wheel :o

I do like the X5 but it hasn't exactly been... hassle free!

  7. Yes - two nice, rare E53s up for sale!

4.6is is the rarest but the 4.8is is arguably a better vehicle.

Despite the higher KMs I think $8K is fair given the amount of work done.

Biggest jobs on these are chain guides and trans rebuild(!) - which will likely have been done already given the KMs.

I'd love to switch to one of these special editions but have sunk too much into my 4.4i which is on 248KMs. 🙄 I don't really know what makes sense any more :)
