Here are pics of the RubberTree mats in my X5. Fit perfectly and seem well made and have the velcro backing. Happy customer! Getting the carpets done properly next week (before anyone says anything ...)

An E53 X5 i was looking at buying in Lower Hutt has the aircon unit (controller in the dash) removed by the dealer as it was working fine but drawing too much power - it would flatten the battery overnight. Prob the same unit type as your E39 at a guess.

Ditch the brick and give it a home

If you've got junk or luggage in the back of the car these should reduce the chances of it flying around in the car if you have a prang. So from my perspective safety is a factor.... good luck with the search.

A warning about repaired alloys and cleaning ; dealer servicing

Cheers for advice all. I don't think WM does a crap job - i just think the water blasting was too fierce. -
I just got my 545i back from Jeff Gray after they've sorted something out and been very helpful - only to find all four of my alloys have peeling on them. What has happened is that my alloys have been repaired (2 by Wheel Magician for me and the other 2 by previous owner) which involved fixing kerbing and then repainting. Jeff Gray being the thorough guys they are cleaned my car including allow wheel cleaner and *water blasting* which blasted the paint off They're sorting it out and perhaps they'll back off from water blasting - or just turn the pressure down a bunch in future. So the learning is that if you take a car with repaired alloys to a dealer - make sure they don't water blast the wheels!

Car back yesterday from Jeff Gray with replacement computer - working nicely but unsurprisingly back to Japanese operation. Both Autosure and Jeff Gray BMW have been excellent about handling this under the Autosure Extreme wty. Eurosurgeon will recode it back to NZ radio and nav without charging again. So all round a frustrating experience but with good service from Autosure, Jeff Gray and EuroSurgeon. FYI it looks like whoever originally installed the band expander (a previous owner) made a mess of the aerial wiring, didn't put all the screws back in and also did not remount the cooling fan - and this could have taken a toll on the unit over time.

Someone at work might be interested - will check. She has an E60 530i currently... GLWS.

That is a beaut. Just can't justify a 3rd BMW!!! Next best thing after an E39 M5!!!

Cheers Barry Will organise a Saturday meet up for those of us with Sunday AM commitments... -
I think if he's patient he'll get a decent price but not higher than you're thinking. If I was buying mid-$20s then I'd definitely want to get a 4.8is rather a standard 4.4i. There's a nice 4.8is in Akld with 124kms on it for $25. I went for a particular unit that (a) wasn't silver - to many silver BMWs in the carpark at work and ( had a lighter-coloured interior so the kids and wife wouldn't complain (as much) in Summer. The downsides are that the Silver exteriors seem to weather better than the darker colours and black leather interiors seems to look and wear better - and the carpets don't get so mucky. Thus why I'm having to drop some $$ on tidy up, and keep telling myself - "it was cheap in the first place!"

Got my X5 going into TidyCar Wgtn on Monday for a bunch of stuff. Recond of front lights $150+GST and tail lights done for the same - someone has one a sh1t job previously Novus was $180 and FinalTouch wanted $345!

Try these guys: Rubber Tree I've just ordered a set for my E53 X5 - should turn up end of week. $130 for a full set made for your vehicle type with appropriate fasteners. I'll let you know if I like mine!
-
I'll reply to myself. Found one one of these on TradeMe for $70 - sweet!
-
As a recent old E53 X5 buyer I think a mint low km unit would be worth $20-25k. You can't get an E70 for anything less than about $30K. I didn't pay much for mine but am dropping a few $k getting it professionally tidied up (paint, carpets, re-dying the bumpers/black trim, replacing/repainting roof rails, reconditioning the lights, repainting interior door handles blah blah blah) plus buying new mats ($120), boot liner (2nd hand $50) and cargo net (hard to find, 2nd hand $70). I intend to keep it for some time and have a 4yr MTF wty on it so the investment is worth it - and I grin every time i drive it. V8 X5s sound great But yeah - i'm with you in thinking a mint E53 that doesn't need anything spent on it and with little wear and tear would be a good buy for low-mid $20ks.

I think a meet on a Saturday @The Bach round Island Bay way would be a good plan for those of us who have stuff on Sundays. if there's interest then we'll take it to the appropriate discussion area eh? We'd have to make a call on coffee or a beer
-
Is that how much they cost from a wrecker? Ouch. Pay to shop around and be patient. What gen (Exx) is your 335i? For reference an X5 E53 parcel shelf is ~$150 and I just scored the cargo net for $70.

Welcome Faizal - wagon's a beaut!
-
Sharp looking wagon Ray! No doubt the wife is envious?
-
What did you end up doing? need to the get the lights on my X5 sorted...
-
Don't expect many of these to be lying around . . . but just in case! This isn't the parcel shelf - it is the vertical net to stop stuff flying into the cabin if you fill the hatch up
