@Sammo what did you use the dye the rear parcel shelf? Have mine out currently and badly needs the same treatment.

Think it was just dupli-color vinyl and fabric paint - not 100% on colour, although think it was this one.

Just be careful to not get it on too thick as it will get a bit stiff.

Fortunately you got in before a generation of ugly with the 3 series, the F3x still looks really good today. The 2026 looks fine but it's only a slight modernisation which will mean yours will not look 'dated' for some time to come.

How is the M2C - do you still have the E36?

  3. 3 year anniversary with the F31 and after humming and hah-ing a sideways move to something smaller and zippier like a GTI, have decided its too damn handsome and practical to replace without dropping $$$ and its better the devil you know, so will keep it another few years and treated it to a proper service to set it up for a little while:

Oil  / Air filter / fuel filter / cabin filter

New Valve cover (only electric ones don't have a leak here haha) and breather hoses.

    Oxygen sensor

  5. Another perfect Saturday, another early morning drive.

This time went over the Awhitu Peninsula - through Waiuku to Karioitahi beach, then up and accross to Grahams Beach / Big Bay and Glenbrook.

Stunning area, especially with the morning low fog today. Roads not as good as last weekend (from City to Waiuku is pretty boring) but once there its beautiful.

    To do list:

Need to replace my drivers window seal - 51321904782 (bloody expensive) and sort my drivers seatbelt reciever before the next WOF.

Also have a rattle from the exhaust that I'm hoping is just a hanger / mounting issue.

  6. Making the most of this incredible run of Auckland weather - got up early (for me) Saturday to do the classic but great run from the City to the  Pohutakawa Coast > Kawakwa Bay / Kaiaua - a good 4+ hour in the saddle allowing time for exploring / photoshoots / more photoshoots 🤣

Zero car issues, aside from a few old rattles on coarse chip open road speeds - nothing opening the windows won't fix.

  7. Been a while since I updated here - car has been great, getting used less these days, becoming a little bit more of a garage queen but still getting enough work.

Was out today with a group of interesting cars - (Elise 111r / E30 M3 S54 / E92 M3 / B7 RS4 / E30 M42 Supercharged / 306 XSi) for a really good blast for 3-4 hours - car was a champ, the M20 still just loves to rev but she does get a little wallowey when pushing on - H&R sports are too cushy but perfect 95% of the time.

The Elise had 330whp - sufficient for 850 odd kg.

  8. I'm a big fan of the M20's character / sound (I'm assuming B20 vs B25 isn't too different - I may be off the mark there).

M42 / M44 however will be a little quicker than a 320i and should also feel lighter / pointier up front and more eager to rev - I suspect it would a better contrast to your beast.

While the weight balance of a 325i / 318is may not look much different on paper, I was genuinely surprised how much less 'push' there was driving an M42 swapped car vs mine back to back - mine felt clumsier once you started to push on a bit.

I'm considering these. They're genuine and look in good condition. 3.5k.

What do you reckon of the price? Reasonable?

    For comparison:

    - Genuine/New from Alpina would be about 6.5 - 7k delivered

    -  Maxilite reps would be close to 3k delivered (from bimmerworld - didn't look for cheaper places)

I'm sure you could snatch those for $3k?

My staggered Maxilites were just under $2k landed from Classic Wheels Australia (split shipment to keep each under $1k threshold) - I love them TBH, a slightly larger centre cap and subtly angular design which I like against the chunky Tech 2 - look fanastic and still like new 2 years later.

At that point a genuine set like this was for sale but $4k and I kind of wanted the staggered look, even if it made the car a little less lively.

    Hi Sammo

Thanks for the very nice pictures.

I love the camping one :) and the old & new style one too

How tall are you (do I fit in the 320, 189 cm tall?) and apart from this steering trouble, how do you find the power of your car.

The weight power ratio (I'm an original motorcycle driver, where it is less than 1 kg for 1 HP,  that is fast acceleration).

The W/P ratio for your car is 8kg/HP. With my present car (530i) it is 6.4 kg/HP

And I'm wondering with the 328i (there it is around 5.8) do you know how did they got another 74 HP out of the same engine volume and is that engine or it's accessories vulnerable to break down easily.

    Cheers Willem

I’m only 178cm but can’t imagine someone your height wouldn’t fit - likely similar size to an E61.

The 320d is a little low on horsepower but diesel torque is strong (380nm from 1700rpm) and the 8 speed gear ratios help out too - a 328i would be much more lively - 250hp from a modern 2.0 turbo isn’t highly strung these days.
