  1. Pretty much all the AT owners of the 335i had complaints about the AT software - even on my test drive it made some weird gear changes while driving -

then someone tipped off someone in the US that inside the spdaten software ( i think its like the software all bmw shops use for diagnosing/writing for bmw cars) that this file was basically the alpina software to be used for the transmission

basically got the info out of the forums from the US - might pay to troll through the forums in the US and see if this was ever done for your model

  2. Yeah, already thought of that. Was hoping to just buy a cheapie on eBay in the States and ship straight to Dinan. Unfortunately, the EGS has to be coded to the vehicle VIN when it's in the car. Rang BMWorkshop about doing that and they had no idea how... Maybe someone else does?

    EDIT: Yes, TCU is separate.

Not sure... Where did you get the Alpina flash from and what were the changes to stock?

EDIT: A quick search is inconclusive Suresh. It looks like the B10 540i had a different s/w package - but by the same taken it looks like it also had a different gearbox.

Ah bugger they changed the hardware :(

It was just a software change on my model the alpina guys did - flash was soo much better then stock - sport and manual modes actually put a big smile back on my face :D

"transmission run smoother, gear change will be more precise and crisp, rev match downshift is unbelievable, rev limiter is increased and overall driveability is increased. You will have a new indicator for gear selection in D mode which display D1, D2, D3 ,D4, D5 and in DS mode you will see S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and the same for the M mode. This single flash will make the car change gears more refined and crisp. You will no longer feel the lurching when the tranny shifts and it goes through the gears without even the slightest hesitation"

  3. Had the downpipes, exhaust, and KW V3 coilovers installed

Will edit thread when i get the pics and dyno runs

    OFT Map1 @ 342HP

Running logs from some 3rd-4gear runs and it looks like i'm leaking boost somewhere - back @bmworkshop on Monday for a smoke test to find the leak and get some runs done so i can get a new customised map for my setup before next Saturday dyno run

  4. Yeah likewise. Dyno went pretty well I think. For a Cobb stage 1 + FMIC I got 310 RWHP. And 450 ft/lb at @2400 rpm. So pretty happy.Just looking at those VRSF downpipes - look nice and well priced! can also get them coated. So probably do that in next few days. May look at just getting the mid cats taken out and replaced with resonators...after speaking with Dan at Adrenaline R. Pretty cost effective as he recons stock pipes are a good size. Thanks for heaps up Matt 0 on the downpipes! How'd the skid go?

    Pretty nice figures

The BMW skidpan event on Friday was quite a bit of fun, quite interesting how much your DTC and DSC system does when you're trying to slide the backend out - keen to do it again

  5. Ok, I've booked a dyno for next Friday am with Ross, so will let you know. Probably need to do the intake also but will look to add that maybe when I do the DP - you recon BMS intake is as good as any? What's the intake supposed to add in terms of HP?

Nice catching up with you at BMworkshop Botany this morning, how did the dyno testing go?

  6. True true. If ur ever in the area again drop by my shop. It's a small sushi cafe 761 great south road. Would love to see the car in person, will provide free lunch :D

Definitely will do , thanks :D

Any of you guys got a factory intake for your 335's you want to sell, customer is after one as the previous owner put pod filters on it and a JB4(horrible thing, was blocking OBD fault codes and the car wasnt happy). All fixed now with a proper remap. Just need to find him a OEM intake system!

Am keeping all my factory stuff in case down the road i sell the car and return it back to factory state

  7. I went with the VR speed 7" Intercooler which is due to leave shortly. Haven't ordered down pipes yet as I am supposed to being using my money for a honeymoon. But when I do i will go with vr speed again and I am keen in the injen air intake.

Do you have an oil cooler?

Yes, just the factory oil cooler

Saw this drive down great south road near Penrose few weeks ago. Looking good on the Vossens

    ty :D

was down there to see chris@autoquip about the KW V3 coilovers, hopefully getting them installed this week if they don't run out of time at bmworkshop

  8. Just ordered an intercooler so I can also do the Stage 1+ , VR speed factory also have some well priced down pipes. Just after I ordered my cobb they released the V3 so bummed

Which intercooler did you get? did you end up buying downpipes?

i saw a thread where Cobb is doing a upgrade path - you can send your old cobb to them and pay a upgrade fee to get the V3 version

Was at bmworkshop yesterday getting some new dyno baselines before the downpipes & exhaust were installed

Current mods on: FMIC, Bov, OCC, DCI, 20inch wheels & tyres

    Run@factory map - 238HP....i was like..i lost HP :( - 253HP was the measure before

then realized they with the new 20inch wheels, not the factory 19's when i did the initial baseline

    Run@OFT Map1 - 316HP - afr/boost/torque numbers looked good :D

Will post the graphs once i get them emailed , will be interesting to see the dyno difference with catless downpipes/exhaust

  9. Quick question...what fuel you using?

I put the Cobb Stage 1 Aggressive on yesterday and performance is awesome. Big diff. Worried about fuel and timing corrections now with boost getting up to 18psi at start of WOT. Will data log and send to Cobb - think it's all ok and can't hear anything bad...but need to make sure I'm on best fuel. There's a lot of miss info on what to use...BP Ultimate is only MAX 98 whereas Gull F10 is better and is it E85...bit confusing...do you (or anyone else) know what's what here?

    Am using BP Ultimate 98

Ya, car's a lot of fun once running a tune :D

When i looked for e85 options, the only place that is in auckland for e85(Gull Force Pro) is Gull Pukekohe

Gull Force 10 is 95 + 10% ethanol from the datasheet, if i was going to run ethanol - imo would only do it if it was e85 and widely available in auckland due to your consumption is higher when running ethanol blends

  10. Ok, I've booked a dyno for next Friday am with Ross, so will let you know. Probably need to do the intake also but will look to add that maybe when I do the DP - you recon BMS intake is as good as any? What's the intake supposed to add in terms of HP?

From what i have read/seen - intakes could be up to maybe 15HP - BMS DCI's are like $110 US , other kits are like $500 US+ - cold air intake systems may be better option in a climate where its hot and humid

  11. thanks Jake...that US car must have been wicked. Any dyno figures?

Might try and get a deal on the AR DP - what site did you get it from? did you get the large O2 bung?

I've just bought the Cobb AccessPort V3 - so will be interesting to see how their maps go. Will run Stage 1 + FMIC aggressive to start with...get it dyno'd then add the AR downpipes and then re-map to stage 2 spec. Should be starting to get enough power at that stage! :)

That car was so dam quick, it was making around 420-440HP when i was there last year, he is currently getting the e85 flex fuel conversion kit installed - seen on the forums people making over 530HP with similar setup's on e85

    Didn't know you could get the large 02 bung ( wasn't a option when i ordered) -

http://www.n54tuning.com/ was having a sale on the AR downpipes when i bought it ( doesn't look like they're having one now), another thread to watch for specials : http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=204

Would be good to compare what dyno figures you're getting with Cobb - Ross was going to get my car dyno'd with the OFT Stage1 Map on my car (running FMIC, Bov, DCI), and then compare once the downpipes/exhaust are done

  12. Thanks Jake, will call Ross. how much research did you do on downpipes and intake? I see yours are 3" all the way through. why'd you choose these over all the others?

Also not heard much about BOV kit for 335. Why do you need this? ...and why from ActiveW?

Also why the BMS Oil Catch Can? ...sorry mate so many questions!

Ha ha, no probs - i was over in US last year and my cousin has a highly modded 335i - and after riding around in a modded 335i (AA intercooler, AA BOV, AR downpipes, AA exhaust,RB turbo's, Procede, Meth kit etc etc) - was pretty set to pick one up this year when i was replacing my e46. So basically chatting to my cousin about the mods he had done and reading forums ( pretty big n54 modding community in the states) e90post, Bimmerboost - i had a general list of items

AR from what i read/reviews from a quality and fitment and i liked how you could optionally ceramic coat the pipes - plus the vendor i was getting my BMS products ordered from was having a sale on the AR - picked them up for $600 versus the normal $800+ they usually go for

Have read the factory DV's have had issues(leaking, factory charge pipe's coming off, protect from compressor surge) once you start running higher boost on your turbo's and i like the sound of the Bov :D -

The BMS oil catch can is highly recommended with the n54 engine - intake valves get coated/gunked up and lowers performance - if you look up on this thread, there is a picture of what my intake valves were looking like before i had them cleaned, the oil catch can is to stop that coating my intake valves

  13. Jake, did you have to pay much duty to get the parts in? and how hard was it to get the downpipes installed? What was the cost for install?

I always factored in the GST duty when i was buying the goods from overseas, but in reality it was really hit and miss with paying GST

as bits were ordered from different vendors and shipped in over a period of 2 months

eg when the intercooler and bov kit was shipped from Active Autowerk (over 2K US with shipping) it wasn't picked up and sailed through custom

Exhaust, tyres - were picked up and paid duty

it seems all the small packages didn't get picked up

from my chat with Ross, the downpipes are quite tricky to install on the RHD models - haven't had them installed yet so can't give you a figure - and with the way the project is going - multiple items are getting done at the same time - best bet would be to call Ross and get a quote-was waiting on my wavetrack LSD and DEFIV Differential Lock-Down winging his way down and them all done at the same time, hopefully be here by the end of this week

    DEFIV Differential Lockdown

    Wavetrac LSD

  14. Hi Jake

Still recommend autoquip for KW, have been running them this year and they are fantastic quality.

If you have the money, buying a set of V3's is probably the easiest option, spray and walk away handling upgrade.

I will be my normally trolling self and say I would be looking at that LSD first though, your car with a LSD at a trackday would be mucho funno!

Good to know you're happy , ya i saw Chris@autoquip yesterday - his prices were def on par

Ya im pretty much going to go with V3 - only thing i need to check if they fixed the squeaky sound issue - seems back in 2010/11 the V3's that were installed on the 335's - lots of people were complaining

def want to drop the ride height a bit- LSD is right up there after the suspension -

  15. Wow car is looking great, some quality mods there.

Are yo going to do a follow up dyno run and custom tune? Will make some good power no doubt.

How is traction with that open diff, can you floor it off the line and out of corers without massive amounts of expensive Michelin pouring out one side?

    cheers, its getting there! :D

The final bits arrived yesterday at BMWorkshop (exhaust etc) - car's booked in for Monday to get the final parts installed (downpipes, exhaust) and then Gavin@Hi-Velocity will get the car tuned - be interesting to see how much additional HP can be added, the Michelin from the limited testing i did, held up very well and my DTC wasn't coming on as much with the old wheels/tyres, but that's kind of the next part i am looking at is a LSD for the car
