  1. thanks for the replies guys

Mine is set at advanced logic mode ( L )

Going to turn on K band and see how bad it is - i do quite a bit of city driving so will be interesting to see how many "false" alerts pop

will let you know how i get on

I know the valentine is getting a bit old , but i love being able to know if the target is in front of me, rear, side etc

its been a trusted unit/units that has pretty much worked in the ~10 years of driving around

  2. The cops have gone to K band for cameras. The only realistic option is to go for a GPS enabled radar that operates K band but eliminates all the false alarms on K band (electric doors etc). The best is the Escort 9500 series.

K band....ahh crap so many false alerts....

My V1 still picked them up on Dec 30th.

Do you have K Band on?

Mind sharing your Programme mode settings:

    http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/techreport3.asp

They way i had my valentine one setup was it only really reported actual events - and not false otherwise you will start ignoring it and then get caught out :S

  3. Hey

Just recently I noticed my Radar Detector has not been picking up the camera van's on the side of the motorway - its picking up cop's car etc so the unit is still working

Am wondering if i am blocking a frequency that they have changed too or something

If you are using a Valentine One and speed camera van's are being picked up - would you mind sharing your settings

    thanks

  4. sorry but is that a NSX???

Yep - Green one with a CF hood, very nice car

    Um...

    Gloss is an understatement.

Ha ha, that was straight after trackday - only had a quick wash before i turned up to the BBQ -

hasn't had the work done to it yet!

  5. I promised myself I wasn't going to touch this car with any mods. But I have a problem, some one should start a counselling group. Example below one of my previous cars

    :D

Yes, 600nm was manufacturers spec, part of the reason I'm putting off anything on the Falcon, it's at 586nm standard on overboost and I don't particularly want to pay for a new one.

Would be interested to know about this billet input shaft - got any links?

  6. Definately not claiming any of the above figures and very well could be bollocks. Just did some runs using the Cobb accessport , no idea how accurate it is ( not by the sounds of things). Don't know how it measures and if a kph speedo throws it out.

Fully agree a 1/4mile run is a much better measure of a cars performance, but its a bit harder throwing out 1/4miles around Auckland.

If anything I can take away my mods have made an improvement over previous setup.

Def will notice an increase of power from downpipes/tune -

Good to see another person dial up some power on another 335i :D

Should come to a track day - and see what it can throw down without losing your license on the spot :D

I read 600nm. A billet input shaft is the only mod I've see, that and fluid changes, rather than "lifetime".

There's a couple of threads with guys who did a Single Turbo upgrade change on their N54 with AT trans

Car's AT seemed to be fine, but once they dialed up power and the WTQ went above 550 - that's when we saw their transmission start slipping / total failure

    Guessing manufacture spec says 600NM?

My E50 map is doing around 664NM at the moment and no issues

Yep fluid change is important imo, just did my change of transmission fluid

All good ,I appreciate the feedback and tips. Cars getting a lsd put in in a few weeks, so will get a dyno run then and see where I am at

LSD mod was one of the best ones I did -

you should see how your condition of your LPFP is - see if it can handle a 40% mix of e85

    I'm sure there's a OTS map from Cobb for a e40 tune?>

  7. Yeah, don't get me wrong Matt, I'm not having a go at you, I just don't have much faith in the measuring system!

Suresh's car chucked out some impressive power, be good to see yours doing the same.

One thing you both might want to consider is that the modded Falcons using the same box put in a stronger input shaft once they go over 300kw. Not sure on how much power you're planning on.

The AT gearbox is my concern if i go down the upgraded turbo route -

It looks like the AT on these cars can handle 550WTQ (745NM) "safely" - anymore and the transmission is going to give out from dumping on it

No one has been able to upgrade these ZF gearboxes (from all i have read on the forums) - even tho they have pointed out similar other car manufactures etc use the same - something about the upgraded gearbox tcu/software not being able to be broken and mated to the BMW car's ECU

My only 2 options are either conversion to manual which price wise is not that bad, or do a DCT changeover which looks very pricey

  8. Quick update on things:

    • I seem to be eating my engine oil , only had it changed about 5000k ago, it was due and the level was at minimum - oil got dumped and being sent to Castrol for analysis
    • (Lifetime) Transmission Oil was changed as my car hit 50K ( put 13k already on it and its not even been a year  ) - Oil seemed to look fine -
    • Differential Oil was changed - nothing obvious so the wavetrack lsd seems to be bedded in fine :D
    • FFTEC Inline Low Pressure fuel pump was installed and was able to run e85 without any blending (tho the 39L/100K consumption@ the track)
    • Car's of to the Gloss Master next week for some paint correction and to be shown as part of the Gloss Master stand @ the 4&Rotary show

  9. 3rd time out @hampton downs , mate of mine joined in his Silvia S15

Fun day, pushed my car a bit further then last time,

Running full e85 mix in the car, what a difference it did to my IAT's - pity at the 39L/100KM consumption tho - luckily I brought some jerry cans with 40L of e85 to fill up

Sorry for the dirty windscreen  and my battery died in my external mic(typical) - so hence only inboard audio

    Raw footage from 4 sessions

Some rear footage from my mates car

  10. Gavin @ Hi Velocity does much of the BMW tuning in NZ.

He is based out of BM Workshop in East Tamaki.

Can 2nd this, Gavin is highly recommended - been a big help with my modification project and his work is top notch - the LSD installation was done by him and its a work of art

very methodical and an eye for detail , he was installing my oil cooler and noticed the screws that were used for my lip , he wasn't happy with them and changed them to a black screws so they blended into the carbon fiber and proper length screws for that application

the other week i was there he was tuning a 135, and he was showing me the dyno sheets where his tune was nearly/basically matching the HP output i was doing on my stage2 map and he was running 6psi less boost then what i was running -

  11. Sweet ... good man ... yeah its pretty much number 1 priority when regularly tracking or driving you car hard. The cars components will last you a lot longer with that attitude :)

Yeah, diff oils are a whole new topic. I'm looking to install a temp sensor in my diff housing and monitor that ... with slicks something tells me it wont be pretty either.

Just an FYI .. normal operating temps of oil is 80c hot is 110-120.

Hmm, everywhere I look people are saying on the N54 engine that 110-120 is the normal operating temp - guess the car runs hot

OEM oil is : 5w-30 High Performance Synthetic Engine

Ya diff oil are another cattle of fish, was looking at this : http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac---finned-differential-cover-e82-e87-e90-e92-e93-p2493.aspx

  12. That's getting up there ... After 150c high performance oils will start to turn into vapor and you will have windage issue and air bubbles mixing into the oil because its very thin at those temps. The vapor will creep up your breather hose and coat your intake inlets .. sometime cause blue smoke on start up ... this can also foul your o2 sensors over longer periods of time.

Air bubbles from the widage in the oil line will cause lower pressure in the line however nothing to worry about in the dangerously low pressure department. Just annoying.

After a couple of track days the oil will start to smell burnt or darken as carbon builds up. It is time to change the oil when it does this as it looses its lubricating properties at this point and will start to progressively break down faster than normal.

I found the internal BMW oil thermostat (inside the filter housing) to be a weak point unfortunately. It is only designed for road oil coolers with minimal cooling volumes and will let up to 0-33% flow through and not the full 100%. I have a CnC machine block bypass however am installing an external thermostat as my car is still driven on the road. This setup allows up 0-100% cooling from the enlarged oil cooler and AN lines.

    Good info to know, thanks

Was surprised how hot this car gets, normal operating temp of the car when I got it was 120 degrees with normal driving....once the new intercooler was installed 110 degrees, once the new oil cooler and thermostat was installed it sits between 105-110 degrees - normal highway / city driving

I can see with me getting into tracking my car that i will be upgrading my oil cooler setup to the dual oil cooler setup (good thing is there is a upgrade kit from the sport to compeition) http://www.evolutionracewerks.com/node/133

I am changing my engine oil every 5000K due to the performance tune i am running and the track days in between

When i had my lsd installed, Ross commented on how my so called "lifetime" differential oil looked, wasn't pretty at all. As i have broken in my LSD - getting the differential oil changed again this week

I am getting my AT transmission "lifetime" oil change as well this week, will let you know how that looked....
