  1. Hah! I was wondering if anyone else would spot that anomaly! I thought of that one a while ago, and it would certainly offer a measurable performance advantage, over one that is running stock timing settings. However, the later 320i six cylinders, according to my information, were rated at 129hp, as opposed to 125hp of these earlier sixes, so it would be hard to tell which would be the preferred option were you to start with a clean sheet of paper.

    e46 crash

there is an emerald green 328 Ci at Turners damaged vehicle auctions at the moment. I was looking at it yesterday, reasonably hard frontal impact.
  3. It was about $100K for a new chassis, $8k for door, $6K front guard, $1500 screen, plus lots of other bits I didn't bother pricing. The chassis was badly damaged, but possibly could have been repaired. Not an easy job though.
  4. A properly engineered turbo installation will have an oil cooler of some description fitted, whether it be the standard factory item if it is deemed to be of sufficient size, or an aftermarket one plumbed in. A turbo will have a twofold heating effect on the oil, firstly as the lubricating oil flows through the turbo core,it is heated substantially. Secondly, as the engine now makes more power, it creates more heat, which is absorbed by the coolant AND the oil. As most 325's had oil coolers fitted ex factory, it seems to me foolish not to refit it even on a STANDARD car, let alone one you have fitted a turbo to! And if cost is your best reason for not wanting to fit one, then my response would be that you couldn't really afford to do the job properly in the first place!
  5. You can buy a new one for US $160-175K, so by the time you freight it here and pay the GST you are looking at about NZ $300K. Then you have the not so small issue of having to convert it to RHD.......
  6. Sold to the highest bidder today for.......................$131 000! Ouch! Bit too rich for me I'm afraid!
  7. You are ALL drooling! get a grip!
  8. No way could it have been left there, the bulkhead actually had to be cut and recessed slightly around the airbox for clearance at the spot where the master cylinder was originally bolted. I don't think it was too hard to relocate it, and it has the advantage of getting rid of all those nasty linkages. Even the trumpets were colliding with it, before the airbox was even fitted.
  9. Flywheel HP Andrew! It wasn't the intention to build a full race engine, rather something with a good power spread. That said, the HP figures are pretty good anyway, for a two valve motor. Yes it is an early cam cover Sam.
  10. A couple of pics of my good friend Warrens M20 2.7 engine that has just been completed and dynoed today. It is running 11:1 comp. ratio, Schrick cam, ported head,Jenvey throttle bodies, forged pistons, Motec ECU etc. etc. It made 250hp on 98 octane fuel, and 220lbs. ft torque, with a very flat torque curve from 3000 rpm upwards - should be loads of fun! There are 6 very big carbon fibre trumpets inside that airbox, and it sounds awesome when you give it a good rev! :thumb:
  11. What I wanted to know before the thread was locked, was do you eat the biscuits first, or leave them in the tin? Also, what type of biscuits do you need, do they have to be fancy ones like toffee pops, or do cheap ones like round wines still give you the same power increase? And dyno results showing different biscuit types would be really good!
  12. I thought insurance paid out on that car? Or did Dennis buy the wreck back off them? A friend of mine bought a 512 TR a few weeks ago, real minter limited edition with a lot of extra goodies. The Ford would still kick its ass though! Thought about turning it into a racer- but probably couldn't afford to crash it again! And Jeremy Clarkson may be funny and witty, but he is no race car driver either so I wouldn't take anything he says as gospel, most test drivers rate the GT highly.
  13. Aaah yes, but it can be "hammered" back out! Funny thing is, if you connected the battery, you could drive it down the road- all of the wheels are pointing in the right direction, so it is not really "dead!" At the end of the day, it is just a car made up of bits of metal, and if you know the people with the right skills (which I do) all of the bent bits can be replaced or repaired. The big question is not IF it can be repaired, but at what cost, and what would the car be worth at the end, given that every man and his dog knows it was bent! I am quite sure I could live with a properly repaired GT, even if everyone knew it had once had a close encounter with a lampost, still way cooler than most cars I can think of!P.S. Whats with the E500? that"s an old mans car!
  14. No, it was vinned "illegally"
  15. Damage to the aluminium spaceframe, and obviously door/front guard/screen/dashboard. Surprisingly perhaps, suspension is undamaged, and airbags didn't go off. I reckon you could reconnect the battery and drive it! It would be quite a big job to repair, but there are certainly people in NZ with the skills to do the job. Also, I have found out it needs to be converted to RHD before it can be registered here, not ideal, but still do-able.
  16. I was going to bung this in the old thread, but someone locked it for some strange reason- go figure? Anyway, I was trolling through Turners damaged vehicles, and lo and behold, there it was, beckoning to me! I went to have a look at it today, and at first glance it looks pretty bad (actually at second glance it does too!) But decided I might go along next week and give it a nudge, I have about 10 days to sort the small matter of finding a big pile of dough mind you!........ (It would probably delay the E30 race car a wee bit!) :thumb: http://www.turners.co.nz/Home/News/tabid/5...87/Default.aspx
  17. sorry no pics. Exhaust manifold was custom made, cosworth turbo, cosworth intercooler mounted under rad, Motec ecu, larger injectors, engine rebuilt with low comp. forged pistons, went really well, as someone said over 300hp. But not cheap, cost over $10K to do.

    Alpine pwns an E60

Obviously Alpine had a lot of marketing budget to spend in a short time- HIDEOUS!!!!
  19. you are quite correct there Gus, and from me it is first hand info, because I did a lot of the work on that car. And like Gus says, go and buy the book if you have to ask questions like this, as you obviously don't know as much as you think you do. P.S. Team Mcmillan charge the sort of money you quoted just for a bloody service!

    M52 block??

What let go on your friends motor? Was it caused by a weakness in the block, or was it something such as a rod bolt breaking? Just curious.
  23. I've driven a few GSR's and they are okay, if you are comparing it to your 318i then it will appear very fast, but hardly comparing apples to apples now are you?!!!!!
  24. Yes thats right, they are floating. They take a spherical bearing at the back end, and basically follow the arc of the pedal at the pedal end. They look very cool, and weigh next to nothing! Yes it will be road legal, I plan on doing the odd tarmac rally or two, so it needs to be regd and wofd, I'll keep it as a 318i auto! Still badged that way too!
