  1. That Downing Atlanta kit looks like the one we fitted, definitely recommend a roots type (Eaton) over a centrifugal blower, as you get good torque increases at the lower end of the rpm scale, which is where you want it with a four cylinder. NZ$5K sounds very reasonable too.
  2. At least you have a sense of humour- good on ya!!
  3. Is it just me, or does it strike anyone else as mere coincidence that the last two vendors of this undoubtedly fine product find themselves in this unfortunate situation with regard to their monetary circumstances?!!!
  4. Brugar Engineering in Barrys Point Road do excellent repairs at a friendly price(I use them a lot, shameless free plug!) although I do not think they do polishing.
  5. Hmmmm, let me see, 1 to 2 psi, that would be about 10% power increase (using 1.5psi in the calculation: 1 bar absolute, plus .1 bar ERAM boost=1.1 bar pressure to engine) therefore 1.1 x 100hp =110hp, before subtracting losses. Subtract the parasitic load on the alternator that the 57 amp "ERAM" motor creates, and you would probably be back to about 105hp, or 5% as the maker claims- believable maybe. So assuming the figures are correct with no BS factor (yeah right) that would be a 5 hp increase on a 100hp engine for nearly $1000(plus fitting), which sounds kinda expensive to me, especially because it is not designed to run continuously- only at full throttle. Also when you consider that a K&N filter will give similar results ALL OF THE TIME for about 10% of the price, this makes it very expensive horsepower, that you are hardly likely to notice. Still, with over 400 units sold in 6 months it just proves that the "bigger fool theory" is alive and well! That is all, thank you. :jap:
  6. If I connect five of these units in series, will it make 10psi boost? This would be much cheaper than the very expensive engine I was going fit.Very sucky motor!!!!!! :jap:

Touring car racing would have been pretty boring in the late eighties if there were no RS500's around for BMW to race.......... And while Ford do get it wrong sometimes, so do BMW, but this really isn't the place for it! However,Mazda will probably trade your car in on a new "3" I imagine........
  8. I've seen an M44 Z3 with a SC conversion, pretty sure we fitted it at a place I was working about 10 years ago.It was a kit that had been imported,I wouldn't recommend trying to get one made locally, always go a kit from a reputable manufacturer, cheaper in the long run, and will enhance rather than detract from the value of your car. It was an Eaton supercharger, and went quite well from memory. Check out this site in OZ, they seem to have a pretty good handle on things. http://www.bavariacars.com.au/
  9. So you were in the porn industry?

Was this you?!!!!!!!! Damn, I bet it does suck! At least you would have been covered for it(?) The opposite seems to happen with me after I have been racing, I tend to get out on the road and drive like a nana, which is not normal for me............ The M3 CSL also met its fate out on the road at Pukekohe, as for the ownership of the car, well, lets just say it only had demo K's on it!............

Did this happen at Pukekohe? You will find many insurance companies will not provide cover now,if a car is being driven around a racetrack, even if it is NOT being raced. They have been some big payouts over the last 5 years, I can think of a new Porsche Boxster,a BMW330i and a Ferrari Testarossa that met a similar fate and the insurance companies had to cough for. Check the wording of your policy if you are thinking of taking it out for a track day.
  13. Hello Cain, no that is long gone. Just got an '01 Mondeo Wagon, the Escort Cos, and a whole heap of BMW parts, which will magically turn into a car one day! Very cool tiger pic, where was that taken? Were you shitting yourself? Thats a beautiful creature, but I don't know if I would want to get that close and personal with one! The Tiger looks scary too.
  14. Yeah, but Skinny White Mans Wheels would spell SWMW- and that would look just plain dumb on the blue and white propellor!
  15. another skinny white guy......whose pit crew were too busy taking photos to check the car over! :banghead:

Doohhhh!!! I bet the owner felt like a dick......... Well done with those pics, I saw it listed on Turners site the other day, but no pics of it.I heard an E46 M3 CSL met a similar fate last week, although this one was on the road, rolled several times.Car did not belong to person driving it. Said person was not supposed to be driving it.Suspect same person looking for a new day job. Not sure if this one will be seen at Turners though.........
  17. I have just discovered, while reading another thread, that the pre-facelift E30's have different rear wheelarches to the facelift, they look higher up. Can anyone tell me whether they have more clearance inside (widthwise) apart from the obvious fact they are higher up. Also, anyone know how much higher up they are? And any other differences, apart from the bumpers? Are the front arches the same? Reason I ask is that I am still looking for a "donor" car for my project, and was going to get a facelift, but am reconsidering now in the light of this fact, I will be trying to squeeze 8 inch wide wheels underneath, so space will be at a premium! Thanks guys! :thumb:
  18. so will it be ready for Taupo in January?

    Huge E30 rims

nah im gonna keep them, was only stirring 20et, e34 etc offset, normal lookin bbs rs 3 peice with the centrecaps that come out, shud have them in bout 2 weeks Didn't buy them off trade me, from a punter in Hamilton by any chance?
  20. I'd say whoever told you you could get 40kw from those mods is being rather optimistic.Get a guarantee in writing before handing over the readies. The 325 (NZ)touring car had much less power than this, with more mods. Also, it is unlikely you will increase torque by much, usually porting and cam changes REDUCE torque at the bottom end of the rev range. And as these engines already start with quite high compression ratio, you would be a brave man to go higher. Interesting to note, the 328 and early 325(yours) were both rated at 192 hp, only the torque was different.
  21. small world isn't it!!!!!!! Yes, that is where (most of ) the MZ3 rear end came from.I have two sets of M3 front brakes (and two sets of rears for that matter) Undecided whether I am using them on the project, depends on budget really. I would really like to fit AP four pots all round. I will make a decision in the next few months on this, and let you know if I decide to sell them.

    Awesome e21

I'd be very interested in seeing that article if you could find it. As I said earlier, a friend of mine has an M102 engine (details will be posted soon- it is for sale) but as it is only an engine and not fitted to the car I could not say for sure that the turbo was not braced to the car. But I will say this, it is very unlikely it was, the the idea of a turbo support is to support the weight of the turbo and downpipe, to prevent it from breaking the exhaust manifold. The support usually allows a bit of movement in a lateral direction, to allow for expansion and contraction, but not in a vertical direction. As the engine moves on its rubber mounts, this relative movement between engine and chassis would deem a chassis mounted brace ineffective. The exception to this, is if an an engine is solidly mounted, as they are in many race cars. Also, many cars do not have a brace fitted, it depends on the design and strength of the exhaust manifold.Hope that makes sense.

    Awesome e21

so you are saying it has a factory fitted turbo? Which engine, is it the SA M30 turbo (M102 I think it was coded, used in the SA 745i) or an M20 turbo (which I have not heard of ex factory? By the way, I know of an M30 turbo which is for sale, had a lot of money spent on it, I'll get some more details and post them up if anyone is interested.
