oh - my misunderstanding.... sorry! Are the guards not very deep on the E30s?
-
then you add in the fact that my E36 as standard had the rear tyres a bit up in the guards on the standard wheels. Stock height on my car before lowering was 130mm - now it sits around 100mm (depending where you measure from)
-
A??? My rear wheel is up in the guard to the rim and i think it looks mean. The only downside is if you ever get hit on the rear guard and have it pushed into the wheel.... But thats what rubber mallets and anger are for - that sometimes gets you home! (well it worked for me when i racked the bank....)

hi there and welcome aboard. Congratulations for buying a BMW - im sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it! For the mods, i dont think leaving the brakes till last would be a good idea - if you make it fast and leave the brakes stock thats asking for trouble IMO. But to start the ball rolling id say open it up and make it breathe - get a K&N filter (ill let others argue for a pod filter or a panel filter to fit your existing airbox) and a bigger exhaust system (cats out etc) to get it flowing out the back. For going much faster it starts getting really expensive! Bigger wheels (whats it got now?) and getting it to sit closer to the road is also a good idea - BMWs usually look stunning sitting low with classy wheels... No doubt others here will have opinions to voice so ill let them go hard! Maybe you could post a few pics of your car for us?
-
yeah thanks for that, i got [email protected] - mean.
-
ill check it out next time i see it, but im pretty sure its just an A6 - definitly V8 twin turbo tho....
-
if you could fire one out to [email protected] it would be greatly appreciated... Thanks
-
you got served.

The Audi A4 is a nice car man, they do seem to make some awsome machines! My mates dad has an A6 - 4 wheel drive V8 twin turbo - performance? its flippin awsome!! i dont think ive been in a car that feels as fast!!! As for the invoice price of a car, i think you'd have a hard time dragging that out of the dealer - they'll want to make their profits off your ass!!
-
unless its an e36? unlikely - it will be an E30 - its got amarns (read chrooommmeeesss yo)few more details and pics would aid your sale man.....
-
no no son, I had a Cerwin Vega 15 in my boot - and that went flippin nuts. Ive gone back to my 2 phenix gold 12s - they go even harder when i have them bridged!! But then my amp shat itself...the old headunit frying itself in the dash whilst driving does produce a lot of smoke a - i had a headunit fry in my old ute whilst drving home - couldnt see by the time id pulled over - thats a scary experience a! At least you had a fire extinguisher! Because cd players operate really hot, being in a confined space (dash) the heat would be even greater - its really a wonder it doesnt happen more often... I always thought that JVC was a good brand too - however they sell rather cheaply thru the warehouse, so i am wary of them... I think the warehouse gets different spec stuff in, like the Milazo bikes they have - before the warehouse stocked them they were good bikes - quality and reliable, now they just seem to be cheap and easy to break! I have a Sony black face in my BMW at the moment and thats the sh*t! I havent has it long enough for anything to go wrong with it tho... Basically when I was looking for a new headunit I went out with an open mind to see what I could get, and the black face was there... Had a play and liked it, so i bought it. Rockford fosgate does seem to make nice stuff - I had a little 200watt amp running my 2 12s and it went harder than my mates v12 - we hooked that up to see what it would do and it wasnt as good! I upgraded the RF for a 1200 watt Fusion power plant - goes hard, but i drove it too hard and it shat itself! JBL seem to make stuff that just wont blow - Ive still got the 6.5 components i bought about 5 years ago and they still run mint!
-
thats not the answer man, the WOF check sheets fine print on the back states that if there is a fault with their checks - like if theyd missed somthing - they are only liable the refund of the WOF fee. Therefore I think your arguement would be with the seller of the car - checking those ltsa sites listed above is a good idea, and getting money back somehow sounds like a good idea

its cars that are 1990 or newer that have to have a high stop light - my 1988 toyota wagon never had one and never got hasseled, my parents 89 bighorn never gets bothered either - but as was said above, if you have one in there it has to work. My hilux that I just bought has one but it doesnt work so gunna rip it out - but why you'd put one in a old single cab ute.... BOT - that looks a hell of a lot better man! I discovered that i had a ski hole and how to remove it quite by accident in my e36 - had the rear seat out to cut a big ass hole and there was an outline for a hole already there so i punched it and it basically fell out after the 4th hit!
-
tim (bumpstop325) has replaced his speedo and tacho faces with white face ones - looks pimp, i like em. I think you should do white faces with red needles. As for orange - its not dated - my 95 325 still uses orange for its dash lighting and every other bimmer i have looked at has too - therefore i conclude its not dated, its just one of those quirks that make BMWs massive.
-
FARRRRK!!! sorry to see that man - thats just down right foul. Have you tried going back to the previous owneres and hitting them up about selling you a dud and either taking the car back or refunding half the cars cost and what not?
-
well that was interesting - i was awake from 7am friday morning until 4am this morning... mean, never made it to hamiltron, got to taupo and the weather was sh*t ass so we saw in the new year and drove home - came across a rather serious crash (gtx on its roof) and when we got to n-town we mucked around and smoked heaps and talked sh*t - massive.
-
at the BMWCC driver training day they were saying that there are roads around the country that would be suitable for a higher speed limit, but then they also went on to say that in a crash, you are somthing like twice as likely to suffer seious/fatal injuries if the open road speed limit is raised by only 20km/h to 120km/hSure, some of the roads could get away with being faster, but no matter how good the road is you are always going to have some dickhead who f**ks up in some way and an innocent party gets f**ked up... There are reasons for having the speeds the way they are, and 100km/h as a blanket open road limit weather or not it is safely possible to do that speed on that stretch of road i think is quite fair - its less confusing for people to remember that if they go above 100km/h they will be caught eventually... The posted speed limit is THE LIMIT it doesnt mean that you HAVE to do that speed... it just means you are not aloud to go over that speed. And the faster you are going, the longer it takes to stop - i saw a thread on here that linked to another forum where an e28 had hit a van that had u-turned in front of them. If the BMW had been going any faster, i dread to think what the end result for the passengers would have been... thread with link to crashed E28 Driving home from taupo last night at 3am, we were the first on the scene of a crash. We were on a straight piece of road, (on the taupo plains) and there was a Mazda Familia GTX on its roof half on and half off the road. There were skid marks and debry strewn across the road, and the damage the car had sustained before coming to a stop suggested very high speed - the front of the car was a crumpled ruin. They had slammed the bank and and flipped onto their roof. The 2 people inside were shaken but not hurt. It woke me right up - it was wet and these guys were going so fast that they lost it on a straight strech of road. What if I had been a minute earlier and it had been my car they had hit rather than the bank? Innocent party taken out by a f**kwit.... I was in a very serious accident a couple of years ago - speed was a factor and i was the only person who didnt get taken to hospital. I was the front seat passenger, travelling home from work) The driver went too fast round a corner and wandered over the center line (easy enough to do i spose) and we clipped a truck on its back wheels which spun us twice - we missed the car directly behind the truck and went head on into the car behind that. very scary thing to wake up to... Fortunatly no-one died, but it was a very near thing for the driver of the other car (innocent party wiped out because of a f**kwits actions). Up until then i was of the typical young NZ male driver sterotype - it wont/cant happen to me, and i was always speeding - after that i sort of woke up - yeah slow down, that could have been A LOT worse! So, in conclusion, the speed limits should be the same - its proven that you only make an extra 10 - 20 minutes over the course of your journey - is maiming yourself or others or losing your life or killing someone worth that? I think not! If you think that because the road is straight for miles it therefore deserves a higher speed limit, i invite you to count those little white crosses on the side of the road, and tell me, as a percentage, how many are on dead straight stretches of road. Im sure that some of the people those crosses represent, would have had the same "it cant happen to me" attitude Im sorry, this post was long winded and wandered off topic, but i feel rather strongly about this - i have experienced the effects of speed related crashes, i have also felt the exhiliration of going fast, but my experiences have taught me that its just not worth the extra 10 - 20 minutes! (yes, i admit that i have sped and sometimes find myself doing higher than the posted limit, but I am trying my hardest to keep to the limit) Also when you add in the fact that the standard of drivers in NZ needs attention, i think there is a very fair arguement for keeping the limits where they are! If you want to go fast, go to a racetrack and do it in a safer controlled environment!

there is nothing wrong with a holden - or a ford if you want to go that far - they are cars designed for a purpose which i think they serve rather well.... Even the base model VR/VS commodore has a great feel to it, i would buy one - the 3.8 ectotec v6 goes bloody hard!
-
dude, theres nothing wrong with a massey fergusson, and im quite sure they arent austrailian.... I wish it was that good for us - im really gutted that its not, becasue we are missing out on some of early 90s performance rocket ships that seemed to slipped during the later half of the decade(eg R32 skylines, A31 cefiros, e30s, e34s, early evos etc)
-
yeah they can be bought over for parts, they just cant be registered on the road here.
-
my understanding of 318is's is that they are very rare here, there are a few around but not very many and when they come up for sale they sell quick. However, if you were to bring your car over you wouldnt be able to get it on the road - our government and LTSA (land transport safety authority) have bought in tough new importing laws where you cannot import a pre-1996 car unless it conforms with various frontal impact standards - and it has to have 2 front airbags minimum. Unfortunatly the e30 doesnt comply, neither does the e34 - even with 2 airbags - some random sh*t to do with the manufacturer. However your could bring your car over and sell it for parts (but who would want to do that to their car!!!) or you could bring it over here, buy an e30 shell or cheap e30 and swap everything over and get it certed etc and have your car that way. Its a hell of a lot of work tho, so its up to you i guess! But as i said, if you were to part it out over here you would make a mint - plenty of e30 owners would want parts like the gear box (it is the dog leg one isnt it?) And the engine etc. Also, if you do bring it over, id choose the shipping firm very carefully - a member on here (martyyn i think) bought his awsome 7 over and whilst in transit the whole interior got moisture damage and started to mould, and the shipping company werent careful with his car either - a few dents that werent there before it went to them... but ill leave that to him to tell the story properly... Good luck with your move and let up know what you decide to do with your car! and post some pics of it if you can!

never looked at it that way, thats actually rather interesting.... As sic said, dont speed, dont worry! But on the other side of that, sometimes the police set themselves up just outside where a speed zone changes and ping people for not doing 50 when they have just come out of a 70 or somthing... I got pulled up by a cop who was driving towards the 70 while i was coming into the 50 - i had a big arguement with him, because when he put his red and blues on i was still in the 70k zone!! after about 10 minutes of debate, i got off the ticket but i wonder how many people get done in this way and dont arguee for their rights??

giz your number - we may be up that way at some stage - doing a similar thing - pills and "stuff" and driving to where ever we get to....
-
toyota starlets handle f**king awsomely - my older brother had one, lowered it on bmg springs or somthing and had 15 inch reflexes on it and damn was it untouchable on the windy roads - absolutly phenominal. As for straight line speed, a starlet will take down the 525 - if the driver of the satrlet can find traction.... for a 1300 tourbo they can haul. BOT - gus, jack your car up for us and take a photo of your springs so that we can have somthing to work with.... Im quite sure that most aftermarket springs have what they are stamped on them somewhere... EDIT: by the way gus, can we also have a photo of your jandles as seen in the interior shot? they look HOOOOWWWTTTTT!!!!!!!!!! :mosh:

blue springs could also be 5ziegen - they make some pretty sweet suspension parts
