JiB 2 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 What you really need to do is get rid of the blonde wig... sit down(by yourself) and ask yourself ... what do I want from this life of mine. Nothing comes easy.. work hard, commit to a goal, study, work long hours and the rewards will come your way.... nothing appears on a silver plater free... I know this from my experiences and what we have done for my daughters. They set goals, worked hard, sometimes very long hours and committed themselves to achieve. My eldest daughter (BA) is in London.. shes a clothing designer. My youngest daughter is a chartered accountant (BA) in Australia...soon she will have an income $300-$500,000 a year. Set your goals Missy... dont listen to non achievers. Make a lifestyle change, set a goal... and go and get it... otherwise you'll be just another tenant... banged up in a state house. BTW: If I took some of the suggestions seriously, and I was your father.... I'd be hunting scalps Probably the best advice yet. Hate to be a d*ck, but perhaps "bitches scratching up your cars" is not so high a priority when finishing school might be a better/easier/cheaper way to get into University? Listen to Glenn. Take time out to sit down by yourself, check out the options for your future. I know I wish I did that earlier.
ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Okay sorry Glenn, might have gone a bit OTT, seriously; ^ Yea it definitely helps to sit down and sort your sh*t, I got no student nothing, (cept a loan and c.r.c to cover fees) Worked 2 jobs and got around 300-400 a week. I wouldnt recommend an overdraft, I still have mine and am 4 years out of uni study (could be due to the fact i am a shitty budgeter), Im now a week out from completing my Deg in frontline Bus Management through a large corporate. Dont have to pay any course costs for this. It is basically an apprenticeship without the sh*t wage. When I come out i should be looking at 100k + a year. I don't think thats to bad for a 21Y.O, A diploma, Degree and only around 2000 left on my student loan. Ill be outta this place in no time P.S School is where its at, dont f**k around there, I knuckled down, had 5th form half done in 4th form and 6th and 7th done half way through 6th form. ( I think that makes sense ) The harder you work at school the earlier you can finish uni, the sooner you finish uni the sooner you earn money, then you can have fun and worry about bitches scratching up your stuff! I think a 3 week holiday in Oz to escape from the bullshit and sort out my life has confirmed what I wanna do. If I stayed at school, I think I'd go crazy. You don't know the half of it. huff3r 347 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 I would definitely recommend working for it if u can, student loans suck lol.... finished my course with $11k in debt. Definitely no need to be too flashy in hamilton, i was there last year and anything decent will make you look a million times better than most people there. But i would also recommend allowing heaps in your budget for nights on the town, because during uni terms tow in hamilton goes off! If i didn't insist on building a racecar last yar i would have come out of my course with only course fees for debt, and i wasn't even working long hours, or hard work lol. kingkarl 136 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 i know this isn't going to go down well, but sell the car. why go into debt when you've got a fairly valuable asset (that will only lose you money) right in front of you. You wont need it if your living in town. or save yourself heaps of expense and hassle and change schools.
huff3r 347 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 All bulshit aside, why not get a job in a clothing shop? That way you would benefit from substantial staff discounts and after you have worn them twice re sell them on Trade-Me or to friends for more than what you paid for them, that way you will always have new clothes and make back your money in the form of cold hard cash. There's your good advice right there, thats what i did... working at Supercheap Auto and getting staff discount is probably the main thing that helped me get my car all sorted while studying at the same time. Plus if u worked in fashion you'd always know what the new styles were etc. like how i knew about all the new sounds and car products

CamB 48 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 <being a KPMG partner> Just asking as my Mum is in that line of work.. You are the problem. If she didn't have you (and any siblings) she might well be a partner at a major accounting firm.
BLACK DORIS 9 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 why not flag the u.e. course for the mo, work the whole year while living at home, save some cash for the clothes etc, get some life/work experience, and importantly some perspective on what you'd really want from studying... OR, sell the car & buy some clothes, move in with your b'friend and get him to look after/chauffeur you round while you study & work part-time. Also get him to pick up the bill for the dinning out nights, oh and maybe get him to research the course your doing and find out all relevant info and resources. If he loved you he would... Dam!! i mostly washed dishes and cleared glass... didn't think they had delivery boys, always thought they'd be lethal dudes with martial arts training, maybe a few tours of duty somewhere crazy like bosnia, afghanastan, iraq etc... not teenage guys still getting the occasional acne flare up! Imagine the awkward situations - hey, weren't you in my art class? - I know this house, it's Mr ......... from computer lab 101. still 500 bucks is a dam good student income! Sell the car, its not necessary. Youll have time later on in life to get another one. Buy a $1000 corolla and hack around in that. Priorities is what its about! mtech1e30 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 i know this isn't going to go down well, but sell the car. why go into debt when you've got a fairly valuable asset (that will only lose you money) right in front of you.Cars are NOT an asset, they are a liability. Which is even more reason to sell it/downsize.I am a student too, living at home because its free and awesome. I get the living costs allowance which is now $155 a week (use to be $150). I have saved all of this and its sitting in a bank account earning interest. When rates were 8%+ it was great, now they are down to 4.5-6% so its kind of crap, but its still money for doing nothing. I also claim course related costs and bank that, which is from memory up to $1000 per semester of uni. I also work two days a week (17 hours a week) and then full time in holidays (ranging from 35-60 hours a week). Find a job you are happy, or impartial to working and go at it. This money pays for anything I need, food (not included with living at home), petrol, car stuff (reg, insurance, mantinence), transport to uni, all that stuff. Managing your funds is important too. For example I use my credit card to pay for as much as possible, which gives me 55 days interest free, so the money I have spent sits in my bank account earning interest for another 55 days, then I pay the card off. Sure 4-6& of $2000 isnt a lot per month, but for 12 months of the year it eventually adds up. If you earn over $17,000ish per year while studying you have to make repayments on your loan, so watch how much you work if you can afford to keep it under that number. If you can't its no big deal, you just pay a few hundred off your loan. When it comes time to pay off my loan it is interest free, provided I say in NZ. When I have finished studying the $155 a week will have added up to approx $25k. My loan will be this plus my course fees. As I will have this ($155 a week) in cash I can pay it back instantly if I go overseas. Hopefully by then interest rates will be slightly higher, and as the money is interest free I will still be earning on borrowed money. I can pay back my loan by making the minimum repayments on my loan, extending the amount of time I can earn interest from the loan money. And as I am making repayments on my loan from my wages eventually the money borrowed from the govt will become my own. Its sort of like a forced reverse savings scheme in that I get control and benefit of the money now and will actually own it later. I'm not sure if that last part makes complete sense. Now I have unveiled my master plan please don't copy it
huff3r 347 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Bulk repayments on student loans may incur interest... they put that clause in just to try and stop you doing whhat you plan, so if you do go overseas and pay it off all at once it may not be interest free for you
