Creaver 55 Report post Posted May 26, 2010 I'm not sure, once i've seen Ross I can let you know how Ray's compares?
Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 Great news. The JB Racing flywheel is in my hands as of last night. Basically it's all go now. Driveshaft going to the shop today to get lengthened, might get back tomorrow if i'm lucky. Depending on how smoothly everything goes it might even be running this weekend???!?! But i'm not counting on it. Will do a proper update later tonight when I finish work with photos etc.

Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Ok....it's all go starting tonight This is most of the progress so far which I havn't updated. The shiny (and not so shiny) stuff. Rear crank seal replaced Pedals in (what a bitch this was due to the brake linkage...) All intake associated bits removed to be cleaned and gaskets replaced

Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Ohhh yes I also drove Ross from BM Workshops e34 540i which was converted using Cain's gearbox etc from the 540iLE on Sunday. His goes HARD with the short 3.64 diff and I quite like the z3 shortshift (so much so I have just ordered one through SIR E30 on the forum) and it also has BIG 6pots on the front...... I am very very very excited now!
crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Awesome stuff man, looks to be coming together brilliantly! Edit: keep me posted how you get on with the shifter, I'm still trying to source one of the E60 550 ones but if that fails I'll have to go with the more common approach. Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Yeah... I'm sure we're both glad we didn't buy a 190e 16V now Will do regarding the shifter. Edited June 10, 2010 by Creaver - STOK3D

Guest Simon* Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Nice one Ian Pretty flywheel I drove Ray's over the weekend with the 3:45 LSD (correct me if I'm wrong Ray) to compare with mine which has a 3:15. Mine definitely has longer legs and needs a bit more work to get the tail happy, but I liked Ray's ratio - just wasn't sure I could trust myself to keep mine in a straight line. Could certainly guarantee that I'd see that traction control light a fair bit. The 3:64 must be quite something again! I certainly did notice the difference in clutches between Ray's and mine. Am still very happy with my takeup and the lightened flywheel. Does offset some of the "shortcomings" of that longer diff. It's great you've had the chance to compare, and awesome progress mate! VolvoBusDriver 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 Good luck mate! Got mine running last weekend, but I've gone the stingier path and re-used the flywheel and clutch and suprisingly they were still in good nick. Geez they're a different car, and I did mine to sell but I don't think I can part with it! I've got the Trans Program warning up, but there's a bit of info out there to get rid of it, plus an airbag warning light after having the wheel off. However, I've got a feeling my selector rod (between the gear lever and box) is the wrong length as the shifter sits quite far forward and you punch the dash going from in reverse and 1st. Seems there's two different length rods pre 10/1994 and after that. For the interior, I had to cut the old auto gearshift console to fit, picked up a genuine wood surround but had to cut the ASC section out, stained the leather boot with a paintbrush to match, and picked up an illuminated knob off ebay. Thanks for the help fellas.
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 ^ Your gearshifter is backwards. Take it off, spin it 180 degrees and it will sit in the middle.
Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 A little bit of progress over the weekend. Slowly coming together now. Finished putting the pedal box in fully (lost a bloody pin for the brake linkage...but easily solved with a trip to pickapart). Clutch hard line made and installed. Rear brakes reassembled. And installed flywheel/clutch plate/pressure plate. At this point I would like to thank Glenn HEAPS for lending me some tools and his advice. Same goes for Ross at BM workshop. Intake manifold installed along with other miscellaneous stuff in the engine bay. If you're ever after rubber bungs etc...go to para rubber, I was over the moon when by chance they had EXACTLY what I was looking for and were cheap as chips! Glenn said he would source and help with injector seals/filters tomorrow and hopefully will also get driveshaft back from the shop!! Thanks for reading. Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 Cheers Ray. I looked at the old one again and it wasn't all that damaged at all. Molded it back into shape and reused that. Thanks though
[email protected] 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 I loved that M60 plastic intake runner setup on the BMW V8. Was quite a nice touch. The Lexus 1UZFE didn't start that sort of runner style until 1997/8 when it went to VVTi too.
Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) Things are still underway, all going well box will be in tomorrow evening after work. Have prepped it by cleaning (best I could do with a rag, degreaser and a hose....) and installing new input shaft seal/selector shaft seal. A big thanks to Gavin here. I didn't have a selector shaft seal in my clutch kit and noticed mine was leaking badly...quick call to Gavin and he sorted me out. Within 1.5hrs I had it installed in the box....good man! Gearbox would have been in tonight but decided it would be best to loop the Automatic trans cooler pipe before installation of the trans as it would be a total c**t otherwise with the intake manifold already installed. See picture below Picked up the drive shaft today. Was done by Driveshaft Specialists LTD in East Tamaki. Great guy and knows his sh*t. Quick turn around and was quoted cheaper than another company I got a quote from. *edit* for others reference, the driveshaft was lengthened 152mm to accomodate the shorter gearbox. And a new hanger bearing was installed Injectors have been dropped off to be ultrasonically cleaned and have the seals/filters replaced...should get these back tomorrow I hope! Expect an update tomorrow evening! Edited June 15, 2010 by Creaver - STOK3D
1rotty 40 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 Throw a quick spray of silver over the box Ian-be a shame not to have it looking sharp
Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 Haha! Considering it will just get dirty again...it can go without the silver paint (and i've spent SOOO much on this car already with getting her up to scratch...I need to save the $10 on paint and spend it on PETROL enjoying the damn thing. HAHA )

Creaver 55 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 She's in!!! Should hopefully be smooth sailing from here! Use of engine brace (thanks a lot Glenn!!!) to stop exhaust manifold from resting on chassis rails (engine mounts buggered and are going to be the next item replaced...) Box in place...was a pretty smooth installation, apart from us forgetting to check the amount of dowels in the box/engine. One extra was in the box and must've come out of the guy in the states engine who I bought the box from................ Stock shifter in place while I wait for the z3 short shift to arrive Fuel injectors back from the shop. An expensive affair, but the guy said 2 of them were pretty clogged up and not sealing properly?? so definitely worth the coin. Replaced fuel filters as well. Basically the whole engine side of things is complete, below is a picture of it all together Not long now Gents! Should be running tomorrow and rolling friday/saturday. Need to install driveshaft, halfshafts, install steering column, install all new steering/swaybar linkages, bleed brakes, add coolant and engine oil...install exhaust, get alignment...whew! Cheers
