[email protected] 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 What do you think of this. Just did a simulated change to indicate what I think would be quite a good change to the front end appearance of an E36. The bonnet gap, annoys me more than anything regarding the design of the car. If it was more like the E39 I think it would look 10x better. Though it would require some extensive precise metal work to get it looking smooth and brackets to make the kidneys stay rigid and some splits in the lower trims and those tweaked to be fixed more securely. Before After Hmmmmmmm. Another of my odd ideas.
Heino 1 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Looks really nice. i would love to do something like this. ive seen alot of them done on youtube like this. looks really good.
[email protected] 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Yeah, it would be good. But a fair bit of mucking around for a small issue. Problems arise, like working out a new way to pop the secondary bonnet release, probably through one of the grilles.

Grant 4 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 I actually like it, and agree that bonnet gap is not the E36's proudest feature.
westy 614 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 That shut line always annoyed me also but I think the new look might be a bit 'snoutie'. Like a piggie pig pig at a trough. Oink oink.
Lucan 196 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Not really a fan either. Speaking of tweaking the front end though, I'm painting the vertical strip inbetween the slats on the Mtech bumper black so all lines flow horizontally. Yes?
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Just doesn't look right IMO
swordfish 30 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Just doesn't look right IMO ^^^ Agree! This is E46 style not E36... there is little you can do to make BMW look even better than it already is to be honest.

Heino 1 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) you could round the inside edges of the headlights to make it flow more for eg like eyelids but not all the way across if that makes sence? Edited August 31, 2010 by westy
Dr. M 10 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Damn, I watched a clip on you tube last night - e36 with modified Z3 bonnet to fit, looked almost exactly like your photoshop. Didn't look good because the eyelids partially covered the lights. Can't find the link now tho.... +1 on painted vertical strips.

pjay 8 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Lol, Heino was never good at "Where's Wally" I bet. I like the change you're suggesting Mike but I can see what Tony means about being a bit "snouty". I just mine aligned straight. The lockey side is always lower than the other side.

antil33t 90 Report post Posted September 1, 2010 I think the bonnet just opens the wrong way, if it had opened the old way.. it'd be sweet IMO.
ducatiss 1 Report post Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) I have always thought the E36 the ugly duckling of the BMW range - basically its the headlights I dislike. Wouldn't stop me buying one though... Edited September 1, 2010 by ducatiss
bmw335i 16 Report post Posted September 1, 2010 leave it stock and do as lucan says.. either cut off or blackout the vertical grills in the bumper. and some eyelids would do the trick
