Apex 693 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 E46 questions. NZ 99 328ci specifically. Throttle/transmission response, is there a known way to wake these up? It’s a 5-speed auto which doesn’t help. Do they have a sports mode or anything? Its half asleep all the time and quite slow unless you floor it everywhere. Fuel consumption. Are they meant to be this thirsty for the performance or lack thereof. We are averaging 10.5. Wondering if a computer remap would help with these? I-Pod connection. Does the Business deck have a AUX other than the stacker, I would rather have both and keep the car OEM if possible. How do you fold the mirrors? Thanks. I would have thought 99 was just before fly by wire so should have a cable, Cable tension perhaps ?? Don't really know about this one. I would say fuel consumption would be about right for around town driving. Would not have an aux connection, headunit is to early. If it has elec folding mirrors there should be a little black button on the drivers side door you push in to fold them.
Apex 693 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks. Will have a look at the tension. Any how too's on converting the stacker to a AUX I-pod lead? No its NZ new so doesn’t have electric folding. Do they just push up or in? They are quite staunch in place, hard to move.
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) twin vanos M52B28TU have fly by wire , you just have to drive it harder more often to get the ecu to learn you way of driving or use it in sport mode more often (push the gear lever over to the left side). but yes remap can help these out as well . miror folding , there is a small button on the mirror switch unit push it in. you can get ipod adaptors to work into the cd changer input , either one or the other or another adaptor so you can have both . http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-351066026.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-350326270.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photo...n-351672342.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-351674336.htm http://www.dension.com/sites/default/files/bmw-16-12-10.pdf or do the do it yourself thing and just have the ipod going etc http://www.mattmcnulty.com/325xi/DIY/aux_input.html will give you a hand if you need http://www.diymybmw.com/e46/aux-input-cable/ http://sftf.wordpress.com/category/bmw-e46/ Edited February 1, 2011 by Brent HARTGE535i
smiddy 76 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Doesn't sound right! My 328 is very responsive. Would sggest a scan, may have sensor, or maf fault. If high Ks maybe cats blocked. Remapp is the best thing I have done to mine.
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 You can also reset the adaptive values if youve been driving it around town in slug traffic for some time .. Usually takes 5-10mins of spirted driving to wake them up properly. FBW is one of BMW worse desicions ever for the performance conscious however emmisions drives everything these days. A remap as wayne says is the only way out of it.
my_e36 43 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Maybe try this.... FBW reset http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f18/20...n-trick-t23990/
smiddy 76 Report post Posted February 4, 2011 Real OEM shows my car throttle set up as diagram. M54 E46 has no cable. I have read that cable runs to T/B and butterfly is operated by electric drive motor.
westy 614 Report post Posted February 5, 2011 yess Ok Thankss! Helpfull. Anyway, My M52TUB28 has a cable throttle and and far as I can tell, is directly linked to the throttle plate.
smiddy 76 Report post Posted February 6, 2011 Me too! Direct to butterfly, drives like it also. No mush. BMW in the last versions of the M52TU in 2000 released the TU eng with M54 3.0 intake with larger MAF and F.B.Y throttle. Heard it was quicker than 330i. westy 614 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 I think people might get confused with the 'thing' on the side of the throttle body that looks like a FBW motor but I'm pretty sure its a cruise control motor? Anyway, b28 feels a bit lifeless? I always thought so too. Even in manual it's not the life of the party. Perhaps it's the lack of 'powerband' as in it never feels like it comes to life as it revs? It was criticized when it was released too, hence the m54, which is a stonking mota save for the odd feel of the throttle.
smiddy 76 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 Will be the much talked about BMW hole. 3500/4000 rev range M54/52 TU suffered from lag in crossover in disa valve intake runner change at these RPM. Really bad in hot weather. Remapp will eliminate. Did for me. Exhaust is real choker of BMW's, imports really suffer.
