Stolen Vehicle data base

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the post. How would one steal a 2006 550i? I suspect they managed to get the key or tow it?

They'd have to have the keys, so they probably took the car at the same time as a house break in.

I used to see one of those cars around regularly.

Interesting, I'd say most are imports (judging by the plates) with either standard anti theft or nothing?

you know, it wouldnt take to much to have number plate recognition running in busses with a cross reference to this data base.

Could be reported back easy enough.

Wow 3364 cars stolen nationally since 4 June

Aside from the 550i, the 911 would be one of the few that would tempt me;

Or the car was towed, and reported stolen incorrectly...

Don't they already have this system running overseas? I'm sure I have seen footage of a cop cruising through a carpark with the system checking every numberplate he passed via machine vision. Might have been either Canada or the pacific northwest somewhere. Pretty cool stuff.

Im pretty sure the UK have something similar. Have heard they have scanners on the motorways etc that scan each place goes thru the system within seconds to check if stolen, reg out, no wof, etc etc. Then a cop is sent out after them depending on whats wrong (stolen would = cop & no reg would = ticket in mail).

NZ can do this, wont take much and would mean police have more time to solve real crime.

There was a news article on this a couple of weeks back. The hold up is the land rights for gay whales lobby group who think this will be the start of martial law.

Looks like my people mover is safe. Only 1 Kia outstanding in the whole of NZ
