Chris Bangle Appreciation! Loads of images!

Recommended Posts

Controversial design at the time, but i believe the designs have aged like fine wine and still look brand new almost 10 years later! Chris Bangle set so many design trends within car design. Auto manufactures today continue to take design cues from Chris's work, he is truly ahead of his time!

Here are some images of the BMW 7 series e65 which was released back in 2002:

I reckon the 7's look dated and the 6 is a fat pig with a horrible arse.

In my opinion...

I like his earlier work too, the Fiat Coupe is a cool looking car.

The E60 looks quite nice too IMHO, loved my M-Sport E60, looked great, well to me it did, got heaps of hate on the road.

I've always felt the E65s look okay but just aren't desirable when you look at them. A car should look good enough for you to aspire to own it!

I reacon the 7 looks amazing on the road, they are just so huge and imposing compared to any other car on the road. They have such huge road presence, and these 7 and 6's have such a unique design to every other BMW on the road it turns heads and just makes them stunning cars. The interior on the 7 is probably the best place to be!

Haha, they look far from dated! I still have people asking me if mine is 2010 or 11!

Its quite a unique design to every other bmw on the road, and there are tons of BMW's on the road here in Auckland.

What do you all think of the facelift? I personally think the rear end is an improvement, but i prefer the pre-facelift front over this one!

That's a Benz! - says so on the plate holder.

Seriously though, I agree - the F/L rear looks better than the pre while the front looks worse.

That said, can't say I am a real fan of E65's, have never really clicked to their design. Serious bang for buck with the prices they fetch now though. Downside - everything that goes wrong costs sh%$#@ loads fix.

They are a very complex motor car & unless you have a good cheque book - they can bite.

I've always though if I was presented with a two new BMWs, a 740i 2001 vs a 2002 745i to choose, I would take the E38 in a heart beat, no question.

ITT White elephants BMW wishes it could forget.

In the long run, BMW fanboys are going to keep remembering how good the E38 was, and how awesome the F01 is/was, they're going to forget the farce that was the E65. Don't even drive an E65 - sit in one and play around; mess with the settings, explore - you'll want to crush the awful piece of s**t before you even get out.

The E63 gets a pass because it was "kinda" cool in M6 guise (best noise this side of an F10 M5).

No you don't. They ask you which bargain auction you picked it up at, and which demo derby you're entering.

Agreed, and your not alone. BMW knew they ballsed up at the start of production too, it was one of the rare occassions that they put the price of an E38 up just before it ended as people were flocking to buy one before they would only be able to by that e65. usually they put the price down to claer stock and make way for the new.

The e65 7 series went on to be one of the best selling 7 series, it sold far better than the e38. And was praised for is ride quality. Even so the ride quality in the e65/e66 is still far superior to that in the f01 according to reviews and opinions online!

And once you own a e65, you will realize how simple the idrive system actually is! I actually wish it had more settings haha

Lets not forget what the E38 looks like

I think one of the reasons it has/had great appeal is that it's not in your face, it's a fairly neutral design, but had great long clean lines.

The E65 was the opposite of those.

I like the e65 kidney grill but with the e66 lights in the front. But definitely a e66 back, particularly the chrome strip that joins the two reverse lights together.

I love the 6 series. I'd like a M6 convertible at some stage in future.

E65 facelift was a huge improvement on the pre, both inside and out. The old I drive in them is terrible! I hate using it. The E38 and the F01 are far better vehicles i think.
