deeveus 81 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) I tried to be hero by painting my engine covers red. I cleaned them up and gave them a 300 light sand and then applied the 500F red engine paint for it to fail hard. WTF has The Diesel Guy done wrong? Some kind of contamination? Please see below pics for failure viewing. Edited February 1, 2012 by The Diesel Guy

deeveus 81 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 oil / grease. I thoroughly cleaned it with either thinners or turps or what ever it was.
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 Yep - contamination. You missed the "wipe down with prepsol" step
Allanw 1071 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 Turps not so good. Either thinners, and do it a couple of times with a new cloth each time - or spray it to rinse the oil off. Or buy wax and silicone remover (same as prepsol). Etch primer for alloy isn't a bad idea TBH.

*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 I had a similar reaction when I painted my rear subframe. It was from the diesel heater I used to help dry it. I first thought it was silicon tyre dressing we use in the workshop.
deeveus 81 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) All aside, IMO Ford ownership is a mental health issue, unfortunately the health system is overstretched as it is so they're just left to wonder the streets aimlessly after their cars break down. Chipped Stainless extractors Cam Cold air Single track exhaust which sounds better than my old 07 GTS Adjustable suspension Pioneer Bluetooth hands free head unit I had her panel and painted just before Christmas, so now it's one of those cars not worth selling LOL. deeveus 81 Report post Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Looks good in the green, the HULK. Got it sorted, just had to get some primer that would take the heat. V6 or V8 Bellicose? EDIT: I have the paint, but just remembered you were quite handy with an airbrush? If I sent them up what would you charge to do a mean Holdy design or something on them? Yeah it's VE Commodore Atomic Mica, but instead of using factory specified grey base colour (the coloured primer) i used a lime green similar to a Kawasaki green, then put Atomic over that, the gold, green & blue pearls really pop now. I don't know mate, i'd say $100, that includes clearing over the top. This is the back view of mine to show what i did with the bumperettes because i HATE the factory ones haha, will be fitting a wagon back bar soon as i want the rear nice and clean. PS: The spraygun on the tailgate is painted on not a sticker.
