nickbawt 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Just thought Id share my good luck a couple of days ago! http://i.imgur.com/9PIsm.jpg Driving from work and Im about 700m from home when steam started to billow out from under the hood, pulled over immediately, engine off, watch the temp gauge climb to about 3/4, *bing* "Check Coolant Level".... sh*t...... Popped the hood and saw the cause. Bummer! Rang Ken at Bellars, closed for the Christmas break (by about 30 minutes!), just my luck! Jerry Clayton came to the rescue and took it on Friday so fingers crossed its ready tomorrow or after xmas/boxing day. There's always a silver lining to things like this though, Im going to do a 500 odd km road trip up north just after Christmas so it could have been much worse. Funny thing is Ive been eyeing those two plastic connections up and was going to get them replaced for piece of mind when I take the car in for its Inspection II in January! Michael. 2313 Report post Posted December 22, 2012 Bugger Nick! At least it sounds like your getting it sorted out. Those pipes are probably the originals by the looks, 11 years... then again they should have lasted longer if it weren't for those BMW accountants. BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted December 22, 2012 all the plastics in the coolant system made from that lovely recycled plastics. i would get them all changed
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted December 23, 2012 all the plastics in the coolant system made from that lovely recycled plastics. i would get them all changed Ugh yeah. Nasty. On the other hand my 20 year old coolant pipes on the Toyota V8 are still in perfect condition, they very rarely go wrong, typically if the cooling system is very neglected. Obviously purpose made non recycled plastic for those parts!
Greg111 13 Report post Posted December 23, 2012 I recommend doing the water pump as well, the next thing to go.

Greg111 13 Report post Posted December 24, 2012 Makes sh*t cheaper for them and then get money back ten years down the track so not all bad for them.
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted December 24, 2012 Perhaps, yet the part failed in just over 10 years which I think's rather poor for a car that once cost a small fortune.
Greg111 13 Report post Posted December 25, 2012 All comes down to recycled plastic again, ten years is good for that crap product.
