Flow 1 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Hi Guys. I'm in NZ. The shipping both ways was about 70 so all up it was about 200NZ. To get the same job done here you'd be looking at $240 + GST + parts. I got these done as I thought I might as well considering I had to take them off to do all the other top end preventative maintenance I am doing at the moment. I won't be able to really say if this has improved things as I am doing my VANOS seals at the same time. It looks like my #6 injector was a bit down on flow though. So I am glad I did it. jeffbebe 1560 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 I bought a pintle and o-ring kit on eBay for $20 and got six injectors cleaned and refurbished for my old 528i for $25 each at Edgell on the North Shore. My regular mechanic said he can do for the same price for my V8. About the same price and I won't have to wait for them to go to and from the US. Etwenty1 45 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 I had some e30 ones cleaned at a deisel specialist. 4 for $80. They ran 2 cans of brake cleaner through them then tested the spray pattern. O rings were a DIY using circlip pliers ro remove/refit. Even though they looked dirty to me the guy said they were fine. I no longer get injectors cleaned. I put injector cleaning in the same urban myth/placebo effect category as auto sparkys suggesting HT leads should be routinely changed. Quite a big difference. As much as $140 each from the dealer in NZ. You can brand new online for around the $80 mark + shipping (which isn't much) but I highly recommend buying a pintle and o-ring kit at $20 and getting them ultrasonically cleaned. Made a big difference to my 528i, which was a 1996 so the injectors pretty clogged a waxy residue and the flow was less than perfect. Like any rubber seal in a car the o rings begin to perish at around 10 years old so well worth doing IMO. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

To service injectors correctly requires putting them in the test machine - running a flush through them while checking/comparing spray patterns, flow rates, checking for leakdown. Then removing filter baskets, pintel caps & running in the ultrasonic bath. Replace filters, pintel caps & O rings, rerun through the test machine rechecking the above. Looking for even spray pattern & flow rates & obviously no leakdown. Using proper machine allows running a variable control pressure & firing time - meaning they can be checked under duress. And yes, we were charging $40 + GST per injector. Putting in perspective though - the machine cost/ fluid cost & labour spent on each service - the cost was reflective Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Flow 1 Report post Posted October 22, 2013 Hi all Dimitry has confirmed that he does use an ultrasound bath as part of his process. He did say that you are better to replace an injector that is suspect rather than trying to resurrect it with ultra sound. He does not have a ultrasonic bath that allows him to pulse and flow the injectors at the same time. He said that pulsing them dry is a sure way to over heat and damage them so he doesn't pulse them in the bath. hotwire 352 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 I always ran them in the ultrasonic bath with them connected to the flush machine to pulse them during the process. Before putting in the bath i removed the pintel caps & filter baskets & filled them with the caustic fluid from the top - keeping them "wet" while running. Never had an issue. Flow 1 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 I can't report on how it feels in the car just yet and I don't expect to as it looks like mine were all good except for #6 which was only slightly out and the clean bought back into spec. When I used to do this job in the trade I would often see a very noticeable difference in spray patterns before and after and saw many an injector stop leaking.
