AC Schnitzer Type IIs: genuine or not?

Recommended Posts

Any wheel experts out there have an opinion on whether these Type IIs are the real thing?

Only markings on the wheels are size (18X8.5JJ), presumably max load (650kg) and offset (ET15). Surprised to not see a country of manufacture anywhere although two of them have partial Gs.. perhaps the beginning of a Germany?

Have been recently refurbed at Arrow Wheels, they apparently seemed to think they were genuine as does the owner as he bought them with the understanding they were. At this stage I'm 75% sure they aren't.

And while we're on the topic if anyone ever wants to get rid of a genuine set of these I'll pay through the roof!

If someone could let me know how to put the pictures straight into my post that would be great too!

Id say if since they aren't stamped AC Schintzer and lacking other markings they would be reps

I'd agree but they have just been refurbed.. not sure about the process but perhaps it might take away some of the telling marks? Maybe I'm just clutching at straws because I want to believe I've finally found some. Cheers for your input

Don't look real to me. Genuine Type II's have a flatter face to the spokes and the spokes extend more to the edge of the rim. Like this:

I've seen so many of this other style though and threads like this and this seem to confirm they are also genuine. Would be great if ACS just kept making them

Pretty sure they are fakies, the JWL stamp/casting is usually a giveaway.

And per on of your links above, the genuine ones have the part number etc... cast/stamped onto them.

yes true, but 17" and 18" are different etc

the easiest way to tell is that it will say Ronal or OZ and/or AC Schnitzer stamped into the back of them and also will have AC Schnitzer on one of the spokes, all of which cannot be done on reps due to trademarks etc.

As far as i can recall, never seen a genuine set in NZ for sale or on a car.

If they are like the type 1's they should have acs on the front face. I doubt a refurb would remove it.

This ^

If they are genuine they will have the markings cast into the back of one of the spokes. It should also have a TUV on it somewhere. TUV and JWL standards are pretty much the same except it costs an arm and a leg to get TUV certification. This is the reason replica's don't use it, as it would make the cost of them too prohibitive.

Locating rings are easy enough to buy and then they will fit perfectly without the rangi mods ;)

Thanks for all your help guys.

How does one determine the centre bore size aside from measuring it? If I was to buy wheels off an E39 for example how would I know what size of hub centric rings I would need to make them fit snugly on the E34?

I've got a brand new set of rings here if ya want them - think they cost just over 50 slides, I'd happily exchange them for a 18 pack of Woodies........
