MISS BM 712 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Does anyone here have experience plasti dipping wheels? Seems like a cheap way of making them look cool but how durable would it be on a wheel?? Have a read of TJ's forum on his rims. I've only done badges but will be attempting it on rims also. http://bimmersport.c...s/?hl=plastidip Edit: Added link Sent from my KM-UQM11A using Tapatalk Edited March 26, 2014 by Amber-Leigh

740i_Lou 5 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 I used the black on the wheels on my old car. Lasted pretty well on a daily driver. Would not recommend if you ever go on gravel and you have to be really carefull with cleaning. Takes a bit of effort to clear brake dust as you cant scrub with a brush. Also, not sure if its still the same but Griffin were the only importers/distributors in the country and they only ever wanted to bring in the basic colours. Was never able to get any of the clear coats or special colours. Just black, blue, yellow and red. It's also $40+ per can.
yng_750 247 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 Supercheap now stock it. Including clear mettalics and fluros. Mid 30s in price i believe Sent from my GT-I8160L using Tapatalk
aja540i 1906 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 I might be missing the point here, but for less than the cost of 4 cans of plastidip you could get a tin of good quality car paint, in any colour ever made, spray 4+ rims with several coats, and not worry about washing it off! Obviously if you want to change the colour of your wheels every week it is great, but it doesnt seem cheap to me!

Wanting to know if the Pearl Dip has been brought into the country yet too... Or the massive range of other super amazing colours available for that matter. I feel like a kid in a candy store looking at all the possibilities this stuff can do to your car. misgvous_1 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2014 I plasti dipped all 4 wheels for about $120. $25 bucks a can I think. From auto one in manukau. Did them in December and still look sweet. No fading or chipping. Planning my next colour now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

740i_Lou 5 Report post Posted March 27, 2014 Must be getting more popular aye? Thats good to know. FYI I only used it on my wheels as the were rough as guts with chips and scrapes and I couldnt be bothered prep'ing them for paint.
euroriffic 609 Report post Posted March 27, 2014 FYI, cost me 100 to blast and powder coat all four wheels. Seems way easier. But this metallicizer, will that work on polished lips???

The paint will not etch easily in to a polished smooth aluminium surface.
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Plastidip is horrible. It's rubberized paint so even the metallic stuff looks average. It's also not that tough, as soon as you get a small chip in the paint it will start to peel and you can't really touch it up effectively, you have to peel off the lot and start again. As others have said for similar money you can get strip and repaint your wheels properly. Edit: IMO Edited March 27, 2014 by jeffbebe
