eliongater 718 Report post Posted January 4, 2017 Fixed the rear exhaust hanger, still rattles occasionally but isn't going to fall off. Put in a new ignition switch, no more starting it with a screw driver. And... hopefully taking it for a WOF tomorrow morning.
huff3r 347 Report post Posted January 4, 2017 I'd wish you luck, but you've been working on it so long surely it's perfect?

From a test drive it seems fine, but compared to a WOF man my eye is untrained as to failable things. I think it should pass, but I can only wait and see
eliongater 718 Report post Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) Took it for a WOF yesterday. And... it only failed on the speed rating of the rears tyres being different So quite pleased it's an easy fix Edited January 5, 2017 by eliongater spelling
Olaf 3317 Report post Posted January 5, 2017 great news! amidst all the important jobs you have on the go, do make sure you have rego (part of WoF check, I think), and your Insurance sorted. Your parental units will be very pleased to see one of your driveway sculptures mobile, and proud of you for seeing this through and getting it mobile.

Seems like the wrong way round to me, but thats how it's done. I'm sure he'll be all over it once he gets his WoF though! Also congrats Elijah, not a WoF yet, but pretty much is!
eliongater 718 Report post Posted January 5, 2017 Thanks guys. Insurance is going to be sorted ASAP, and yes REG immediately after WOF. Still confuses me why you need a WOF first. Yep, both my parents and the neighbour are pleased (and secretly proud) to see it move
Olaf 3317 Report post Posted January 5, 2017 I reckon a discrete laser-cut decal on your rear window would be the go. "/// former driveway sculpture" in an appropriately BMW font

Olaf 3317 Report post Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) I was thinking about buying a vinyl cutter on TM, but figured i) I'm not a signwriter, and, ii)I have unfinished projects already so having such a device taking up shelf space doesn't work for me. Sorry, can't help! PS: how'd you go with finding suitable rubber? Edited January 6, 2017 by Olaf

You've seen it now Though I suspect I might be needing a new/fixed gearbox, since as well as not going into 5th it makes some nasty noises under load. Time to start trawling and ring Kayne Barrie... eliongater 718 Report post Posted February 14, 2017 Washed it, new spark plugs and did my first valve adjustment. Sounds much nicer, apart from the gearbox, though Dad and I suspect there might be a dodgy bearing in the engine :/
Olaf 3317 Report post Posted February 14, 2017 good on yer! is it a main or a big end? any news on a gearbox?

Not sure, should be easier to tell when there's less rattling from the gearbox. Yes actually, managed to find a local one, problem is it's in a mates car, so I found him the correct gearbox for his car and in return I get his gearbox (which since it's in a car I could test beforehand), everyone wins.

eliongater 718 Report post Posted March 26, 2017 Swapped out the gearbox, front sway bar links, intake filter, rubber shift boot, rocker cover breather hose and intake elbow. Next weekend is a proper clean, oil change and maybe installing the LSD.
