Matth5 471 Report post Posted December 4, 2015 Glad your experience was better than mine then. Still think the BMW places may find things those places will miss when they use their diagnostics software.
Breaker 980 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Right, home after the meet with the day off to do the lawns, raining, OK so I'll polish the E39 then ready it for full daily duty. 4 hours later after clay, polish and wax, still got some swirls but much improved and at least protected. Looks a lot sharper and the colour is starting to pop, might have to OCD it to get a really good finish, em ... Drive out of the garage for a couple of pics and after taking these get rewarded with a pile of steam gorging out from under the bonnet, oh well looks like I know have the after noon covered checking it out. Initial small pile of green fluid sprayed onto left bank exhaust manifold. Run OBD reader and temp is solid, may be window cleaner line? Will let it cool down and check further .... TBC.
Breaker 980 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 OK, so all my worst fares of coolant leaking where in vain, seems the recharged AC found its leak and popped an o ring at the fire wall, and the dye in it to see the ring was green, same colour as coolant though Have to say I'm happy for that. Off to the air con guys who are keeping it overnight to fix and diagnose the pressure build up issue then recharge, really can't have a DD without AC
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Good news about the coolant leak not being a coolant leak. And loving the work you've done on the paint. The clouds reflecting in the bonnet looks very nice.
Breaker 980 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Yeah I'm not looking forward to the first M62 coolant leak, bound to happen sometime, just glad not yet. They sound a dog to fully fix

hotwire 352 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Glad your experience was better than mine then. Still think the BMW places may find things those places will miss when they use their diagnostics software. BMW dealers aren't necessarily skilled in A/C diagnosis. Many will outwork to an A/C specialist. BMW software will not diagnose A/C completely, it needs a knowledgeable A/C person to do so

BreakMyWindow 1878 Report post Posted December 8, 2015 The tu motors run quite hot and at high pressure cooling system wise. Commonly leak from the valley pan cover. Any brownish coloured plastic on those coolant pipes is a sign they're borrowing time.
Breaker 980 Report post Posted December 31, 2015 OK so a bit of on update on the AC. Major works ended up occurring, while we had an initial gasket blowout there where a number of items no longer working correctly. -Clutch coil was shorting out -R/Drier replaced -Various o rings and gaskets -Clutch bearing at the same time -Aux cooling fan was shot and replaced with new, not worth second hand one -AC controller had a cup of dried coffee through it, replaced with second hand one -Re-soldering and testing of PCB module, also throwing errors So basically rebuilt, however now working fine, as you would hope for this lot. Parts ended up over $2100 and labour was $1000 (which all in all could have been a shite load more) So with GST a lovely $3516 xmas present. Overall happy with the work done for the money as well as the communication and discussion as the job went through its changes. Good job I want to keep it ! AC was the one area I'm not keen on tackling so have to just suck it up
rusteee 52 Report post Posted January 1, 2016 AirCon is always nitty gritty, epsecially if the gas had leaked. Sounds like a good job done though, definetly good to have the AC working and trouble free

Breaker 980 Report post Posted January 17, 2016 Ok, headed home from Hamilton Friday night and at TeRapa set of lights took off and a HUGE cloud of steam explodes everywhere. Rush hour traffic in the right lane, PITA. Pulled over checked it out, AC. AC has gone again, total failure again, luckily just down the road from the AC guys, only time this month I happened to be working in Hamilton. Dropped it off and they are into it Monday, loan Corolla, still could have been way worse ... Lots of talk about warranty work Next chapter tomorrow
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted January 17, 2016 Bummer about the AC Brent. But a sigh of relief it wasn't coolant.

Breaker 980 Report post Posted January 20, 2016 Right collected tonight, They fixed the gasket issue and refilled, checked everything and then removed the controller, grounded it all, validated ok. Reinstalled and ran around for over a day, no issues. All warranty and with a smile, can't complain on that aspect, we'll see how it goes from now on, hopefully all sorted.
