*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted May 5, 2017 Seriously... and I don't mean to offend..... do you really think you have the skills to do this ?... If the car was mint, I'd be doing a M42 M44 motor & manual conversion not a M40

Firstly, i have an auto E30 that already has an m40 in it with fairly low kms so why would i swap it out for a m42? Secondly, i did not state that i'm doing it myself. My post clearly states i'm looking for advice on where to find a manual conversion kit not how to convert an e30. Cheers for you're input though.

HardBall66 135 Report post Posted May 5, 2017 Also check out Schmiedmann in Denmark. Shipping might be pretty hefty, although no VAT as they would be exporting: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/five-speed-transmission-pg186-catu-oa
thorburn 121 Report post Posted May 5, 2017 Is a manual conversion really that hard to find in NZ?
allan 295 Report post Posted May 5, 2017 James the work side of the conversion in most cases is the easy part. Finding the correct parts is the hard part in NZ such a small market that is why it is easier to go over seas.

HardBall66 135 Report post Posted May 6, 2017 Yeah, the price is not bad but the shipping kills it. I wonder if there other models which might be compatible or modifiable?

An m40 is kinda crap so if you're doing the work anyway go to a quad value dohc engine (m42/m44). Obviously this is all just internet waffle so you don't have to do anything anyone says :-) M42

There's a few other parts worth doing while you're in there, but certainly nowhere near $3K of labour is involved!!! Was your car converted to manual? There's a fair few dodgy converted ones around.
