Sounds like it could be the rarest with only 3 in existence (according to  the article)...

Its a bit misleading. 3 road versions but a number of race versions around (two in nz ?). Saw a couple of E46 M3 GTRs racing against GT3s in a support race for a1gp at brandshatch. Sounding awesome going up the hill.

Would make for a fun project to build an E46 with a nice V8.

NZ ones are just replicas. Has been a few genuine ones come up for sale in the UK over the last few years.

Genuine - upwards of (equivalent) NZ$300k. There's a few very well-built replicas (possibly better than anything ex-factory) available for $100-200k. Add the typical 'NZ tax' and you can see where it goes.

Always looked at the one below never really thought of it at a E46 M3 GTR, maybe just a m3 (with exterior cosmetics) but for a 2005 game came across pretty majestic to the younger self with less appreciation for what it really is before looking at 'affordable' cars for a restricted driver haha 

Interesting article didn't know that the V8 was there, hearing and seeing one drive by would be more than a privilege
