Flash1 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 Hi people. Im new to this forum but have been reading alot from it. Just hoping to pick your brains. Im looking for a 135i. The one i like is a 2008, 100km. Price is reasonable and it drives fine, no rattles/noises that stood out. 2 warnings : Battery is low, and date hasnt been set. Havn't noticed anything else wrong but it was only a 10min drive. The seller (private) also has a transferable mechanical warranty (autosure essential) for a year. After which i will purchase an additional warranty. The issue is the PPI. I havnt been able to book one in that suits (timeframe, location). While i know ideally a PPI from a specialist would be great, would it be safe to risk it since i have the MW? Look forward to some help..

Even the nicest of cars will have something wrong which will have been unforeseen by you, or the seller (this is giving everyone involved the benefit of doubt here...) which a PPI might well pick up. Speak with Glenn, or one of the other garages in town that specialize on BMWs and they'll set you right. I found this old post useful when I was in your position:
Gaz 1058 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 The battery will need either a good charge or replacement
Matth5 471 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 Make time for a PPI at a BMW specialist. It's well worth it. If the car wasn't well looked after it could be a nightmare to own.
qube 3570 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 A PPI tells you whats currently wrong or about to go wrong on a vehicle and gives you time to repair prior to things breaking or having an accident. A MW is just provides a subsidy on repair costs when (not if ) something does go wrong and leaves you without a car for how ever long it takes to assess and fix the problem. And after which you may end up with a car that has overheated and/or caused other significant damage. Your call.. do you want to save $200 on a PPI and potentially buy a problematic car that is going to cause you nightmares in the next months/years or do a PPI and know you are buying the right vehicle? (btw a new battery is not cheap as it needs to be fitted by a BMW specialist and coded to the car - $500-700 for a bosch or $1000? for a BMW)
zero 1162 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 Get a PPI.
gjm 3258 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 A PPI should advise any current issues. Better to know these ahead of purchase (and possibly be able to negotiate a price reduction) than find a MW throws obstacles in the way of a repair.
NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 You really want the Autosure Extreme warranty IMO. Check out their website for what they all do and don't cover. If you can purchase it by yourself you could get up to four years out of it.
Flash1 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2017 Hi all. Thanks for the advice. I was trying to convince myself I can get away with it but will try to book one asap. I have no issue with the money (I understand what it can provide), unfortunately the seller is hesitant to leave his car anywhere but home for an extended time. Which makes it hard for the respected specialist mechanics like Botany MWorks / BMWorkshop to do there job to the full. (Gut feel is that the person is just a little over-protective of his car and nothing untoward). Nonetheless, I now feel a PPI is a must. Thank you all again
