M3AN 4016 Report post Posted September 26, 2018 But doesn't come with the "correct" gearbox or engine? Buyer has to import that from the USA. How did that come to be? And doesn't that mean it's not a CSL?

KwS 2421 Report post Posted September 26, 2018 It doesnt say in the listing what engine and box are currently in the car. Someone close to the car mentions in the Q&A it has a later E23 injection system fitted, but whether thats to the standard engine, who knows. Stunning colour though! The main auction says "I have located the correct engine and gear box for this car. This makes this CSL worth considerably more." which has a clear implication that it currently doesn't have either. He reinforces this in his answer in the Q&A section. Either way, a buyer would be wise to get an explicit confirmation.
E30 325i Rag-Top 2956 Report post Posted September 27, 2018 All sounds a bit odd, if you found the engine and gearbox, wouldn't you buy it and put it in the car? If not why not? And is it THE engine and gearbox that the car left the factory with, right engine number (the old "numbers matching" thing) or just the right series engine and gearbox? Makes all the difference on these type of collectors cars. The Q&A section is a bit of a giggle if you can be bothered to read all the comments! Driftit 2068 Report post Posted September 28, 2018 I would think a collector would look straight past this car. Especially at that price. That's a numbers matching unrestored price.
