qube 3570 Report post Posted February 15, 2019 Anyone have any recommendations for dog parks around Auckland? Currently the local favorite is Waiatarua Reserve next to the Remuera Golf Course but looking for more. Will check out Meola reef in pt chev.
sobanoodle 45 Report post Posted February 15, 2019 I found Meola reef to be a bit rough (a couple of years back, never been back since) - lots of crap everywhere, not so friendly/well behaved dogs etc. Waiatarua is a much more safer and pleasant place. Have you tried St Leonards beach? Off-leash year round but very much tide dependent, has to be a low tide.
qube 3570 Report post Posted February 15, 2019 waiatarua is perfect for a decent walk about 30 mins to 45 mins, fully off leash-able and very safe. I am not 100% confident I can go off leash in other areas with my dog so I guess this place is the only good place. While I was road tripping I saw in Whangarei they had a big caged play area for dogs, like a dog playground, nothing like that in AKL i suppose..? There is actually one half way up Mt. Eden, two in fact. Grey Lynn park is also off-leash, not caged though.

sobanoodle 45 Report post Posted February 15, 2019 Damn I was expecting a bit of a monster that you wouldn't let off-leash easily

BreakMyWindow 1874 Report post Posted February 15, 2019 Kakamatua inlet on Huia rd. You’re dog will sleep well after a run around there when it’s low tide.

M3AN 4016 Report post Posted March 25, 2019 I remembered this thread when I rode passed a 'secret' dog park the other day. It's small, but then so is your dog, lots of parking, trees for cover or you can stay in the car if it's raining, doggie-doo bin and I've never seen another dog (or person) there. Best parking is on Derby but Lonsdale will get you there too. Back of the racecourse.
