modz 147 Report post Posted July 9, 2023 (edited) UPDATED 29 APRIL 2024 Only offering 'Barina' style for E30’s as these have been the most reliable for my customers. Joint End Options: E30 : E30 - great to remove the 'guibo' from your E30 E30 : E36 / E46 - great for running a yellow/green/blue/purple tag steering rack in your car. Note: the steering rack end has not been modified in the pictured versions. All I need to know is The length of your existing steering joint (short or long) Spline size at each end (13mm/16mm or 16mm/16mm) - use a vernier caliper to measure accurately. $20 refund on exchange of your existing E30 steering joint! I've sold over 40 of these now both in NZ and overseas. All come with detailed instructions to install correctly, however with all steering and brake items these are at your risk. There are many shops selling 'racer products' universal steering joints however certifiers don't like them as they're often questionable quality metal. Using OEM parts in the above options reduces this issue and both options are collapsible unlike BMW options. Post $10 to main centres or $14 to RD's, fully tracked to your door. RYAN399 0 Report post Posted April 30 I've seen your post update but any chance you have any slim ones still haha? if you do, are they any slimmer around where the top piece that attaches to the steering column is? mine is so close to the exhaust with the barina/stock top section combo.... detroit 4 Report post Posted May 2 Are these wofable? I'm in need of replacing my steering shaft joint/flex coupler, and this would just save me so much pain by the seems.
modz 147 Report post Posted May 2 I have personally had no issues with a VTNZ WOF in the past, but that isn't a guarantee! If you're interested PM me. In saying that, the coupler bushing isn't hard to replace and you can do it without disconnecting the joint from the firewall or rack if you're careful. Cheers for the info! few questions for ya, if you don’t mind. So these would work to/from a regular old e30 rack? - If so, It might be worth it either way in my opinion, basically an upgrade. Just a question regarding replacing said bushing though, you wouldn't happen to know where I could get one or a urethane one, called the dealership and they have some but in Malaysia, and at the price of like 90 or so. I also saw online that they are riveted in, which is why I think this one would be simpler, I'll double check though I haven't inspected how it's held in on my car. lastly, looking through your post history do you happen to still have the frankenrack? And/or purple tags and associated parts for an e30 drop in? If so, price? - feel free to PM if you’d prefer. I believe if need to use e46 inner tie rods and e36 outers? Cheers! Sammo 2542 Report post Posted June 4 Hi @modz may be needing to do this swap to sort the clapped rack in my M20 E30... Are these used for manifold clearance primarily, or shorter length? (have seen people remove the stock coupler bushing to achieve a similar result). Cheers!
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted June 5 @Sammo It's both. The racks steering spline position is closer to the engine block / headers so you have clearance issues and a slight difference in length because of it. Also the E46 rack also uses a different spline, which is why the linkage uses the E30 UJ at one end (for the steering column) and the Barina end spline is the same as the E46 rack spline. You wouldn't be able to fit E30 spline on E36 / E46 rack.
