I've been running gull 98 in all my beemers for years with no issues. I did a test and used BP 98 for several tanks in a row but noticed no difference except to my wallet so switched back to gull.

Really interesting tear down of the New B58. Quite a few surprises over your normal 6cyl Turbo. Very interesting.

After the E39 developed some rear interior rattles i went on the hunt for solutions from adding foam rings to door clips, replacing some clips , lubed the door card edes where they contact the door frame....all with no major change I even contemplated pulling the rear deck out again to investigate where the heck the creaks and rattles were coming from. As an avoidance tactic to that i trawled various forums on the subject of E39 rattle solution i came across this forum link, https://www.m5board.com/threads/fix-for-creaking-and-rattling-doors.137711/page-3 the tips in here about performing some TLC on door seals and rubber bits and adding strips of insulation tape to the strike plates to ensure a ever so slightly firmer latch was life changing, After doing this the interior is rattle free.

To follow up... After chatting to a couple of members, It seemed like the only logical place and person to go see was Zane at Automatic Transmission Repairs in Plimmerton. He's a certified ZF whizz and covered to do MBI work also. Pretty much everything was replaced bar the drums. This included a split valve block, all bearings, clutch packs, pistons, pressure regulator valves etc etc, The list goes on... Zane really knows his stuff and takes the time to answer questions. Having been here before with an L322 Range Rover with the same m62tu and ZF 5hp 24 box, it was reassuring! It took a few weeks because the job was as big as it could have been and a bunch of parts and overhaul kits had to come from overseas. He didn't disappoint and i now have my car back running better than ever. Any gearbox woes? Go see Zane at Automatic Transmission repairs in Plimmerton

Gees same thing here. Looking for hard to find parts for a very rare model 4wd. So far 5 places that have told me they have the parts have not had them when I have turned up. I ended up having to buy the parts from Lithuania... And they arrived quicker than parts I ordered from Hamilton... with cheaper shipping. WTF NZ.

OK, so bit of an update. Apart from the bumping / clunking /whatever issue, there was a bit of that waaa.... waaa... waaa... waaa... sound that varies with wheel speed coming from the front. It was more noticeable at low speed and when slowing to a stop, and I was picking probably a wheel bearing on the way out. But reading a lot of posts on many different forums indicated that sometimes a tyre can cause this kind of noise. So off came the front wheels (Goodyear 235/40-18XL assymetric tyres 50% worn) and on went the front wheels from my new set (Neuton 225/40-18 directional tyres 20% worn). Went for a drive and dang me... not only did the waaa... waaa... noise disappear, but the tyre thumping over road surface irregularities was also considerably reduced !!! The ride and noise level is now pretty much in line with what I expected from a BMW I have never never owned a car that used anything lower that 55-series tyres, so had no experience with 35 and 40 series tyres to guide me. With such short sidewalls the tyres cannot absorb much bump energy which means that the suspension does more work. The upside is much crisper handling and I'm all for that. Looking at the Goodyear tyres, they are XL rated which I gather means that they are stiffer to handle Xtra Load. They are also assymetric AND directional, which as I understand it means that they come with 1 x RH and 1 x LH tyre to make an axle pair. However, it looks like the tyre shop mounted two identical tyres which means that one was rotating in the wrong direction. I think the combination of a heavier tyre and greater wear caused the thumping and the incorrect mounting and/or tread wear contributed the extra noise. Cheers... jondee86 "The only reason I make mistakes is so that I can learn from them...".
