Trust me - I've been thinking about it! So... What is the economy like on a 318iS manual...?

I'm sure you all know what Repco stands for, but I had an outstanding example today. The a/c drive belt broke on our Mazda 3, called Repco, $132. Called South Auckland Motors, (Ford/Mazda dealers), $35. Then decided I needed the much larger serpentine belt as well, they felt sorry for me because they weren't in stock, got both belts for $65, in tomorrow. On the off chance that anyone else has a Mazda or Ford (unlikely) that our sponsors don't want to deal with, they have been excellent to deal with (in my whole two experiences). By comparison, I can't drive past John Andrew fast enough.

But that does coincide with what Jason H was saying about weight detection, although in a fairly primitive form in the 90's models, and is probably the most important piece of information relating to these sensors.

It is NOT the same as taking the warning bulb out. The SRS bulb lights to show the system is self checking, and when a fault is detected. Removing the bulb would not solve the problem. Bypassing a faulty mat sensor so that airbags fire on impact regardless of occupancy does solve the problem. The only downside would be that if someone crashed into my car while no one was in it, the bags would still go off - my cost, my problem; not anyone else's The system can still self check, and the bags still fire, which would not happen by just removing the bulb. Again; enough about airbags. If you don't agree with me, good on ya; huge fan of independent thought that I am, but you don't have to keep going on about in this thread. The decision's been made.

would love to see any evidence that there is only a small differance in fatality levels. they arent there just for shits and giggles. i rather have an airbag burn than than a neck injury. also any proof that having an arm at 12 oclock will kill you. just like seatbelts people look for a reason to doubt them. i have heard people quote a single case where someone drowned due to being trapped by a seatbelt. and say" they kill more people than they save". natural selection i suppose. i also see people not wear belts because they have an airbag. i dont stay friends with such people

Not really, a missing SRS light will fail a WOF whilst still being dangerous. This mod will pass a WOF, whilst also being potentially dangerous. Anyway, i think all that needs to be said about SRS has been said, and there is now a dedicated thread. Might a suggest a mod clean this thread up for the OP?

Hi, i've got an e36 323i MS coupe that i've owned for over 7 years. Its got full service records from BM workshop etc and now kinda need another 4 door car as i've got a 4 month old. didnt think i would part with it, but need something more practical now didnt think i would part with it.. its no 328i but goes good...pm me if you want more info... im in no rush as i'm on a look out for a e39 or a nice e34

Just make sure which ever u choose make sure it's the one u really want, some of us may giggle if u sell it 3 months later and look for the other

As with all parts places, sometimes they're good and other times they're horrendous. Most of the battle is finding staff that are parts people, not just retail assistants

I purchased my entire engine rebuild from overseas. After freight and GST I saved around $1500 on $5000 worth of engine components. Performance shops in NZ are purchasing the parts for not much less than Joe Blogs can. Cut out the middle man who does nothing more than dip his fingers. But when it comes to standard parts I am pretty loyal to Gavin at Euro Italian. He just makes things so easy. Quick email and everything is done. For VW. Your only cheaper option is Qualitat. Ask for Shane and tell him Dan from the BMW forum sent you. Might be lucky to get a discount. He has put me off any VW and Audi for life though. The horror stories are just crazy.

Mrs M doesn't drive stick because she can't. Physically cannot. It's not a capability thing - she has a back injury. She knows how, but doing it could see her in hospital to get her back sorted. Does this mean that some people shouldn't drive nice-coloured cars? OK - a 318iS isn't the ideal candidate for an auto box, and my earlier comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything else. But we're trying very hard to drag ourselves out of a financial quagmire, and still have fun. With cars and driving, sometimes that fun comes from a smile on your face when you see the car, sometimes it is from driving it. This 318iS falls more into the first category, but the M-Sport kit should make it fun to drive at legal speeds, too. It's a good, fun car. As it is.

yea sorry wasnt really refering to this car in particular as the owner obviously does things correctly. was just talking in general. keep in mind the only way to stop this behaviour in future is to stop it now. in 15 year time if someone does this mod and their "old" 2014 bmw thinks the max weight is in the seat then suddenly the car hits a kid like a 140kg samoan and sh*t gets bad. i would be interested to know how much airbags actually cost the manufacturer at time of instalation. could indicate wether we will see a market for replacement bags in another decade when half of them are getting to old to function. anyway back to 750 goodness.

An S13 200sx. 260rwkw from a 1.8ltr. She has fun in it. Though is now thinking about selling it to get something else she can learn with at the track. Showed her this E36. No smile. No words. Just walked away shaking her head.

Something Japanese with a hair dryer on it is my guess. Most BMW's aren't very powerful but who buys them for the power anyway, I'll just jump on my bike when i want to boost off cars.

My people think its actually a Austin Allegro under there............so they think ya should be taking a pic with the cover gone to prove its not.......

While my patience wears thin waiting for the latest pelican parts order I decided to finished the last of the interior. I got some kicker speakers for xmas with tweeters that protrude a heck of a lot less than the fusions that were in the car when I bought it. however some spacers are still needed so I can keep the factory grills. not to bad I thought, a jigsaw isn't the most precise tool in the world. Done. For all you know there are 1984 10watt Alpines behind these…then BAM! awesome sound quality emerges!
