Jamez and I are looking at starting up the twilight stuff again ... Its easy enough to put a transponder in a car and record the laptimes ... Amber this is one of the main reasons I built the e30 for time attack runs. Lots of us hit the track days, I actually lost enthusiam for the public open days because of numbers clogging the track. It felt like the auckland motorway at some points. The other problem was you would have to wait an hour to get out on the track because they let all of the other traffic out. Made it hard to come in and adjust setup if something wasnt running right. I started showing up aorund 11-12 instead of in the morning just to let the masses get it out of their system. The semi private twilights are where its at. Its a lot more relaxed atmosphere. Amber I think first off, go and do a few track days and get bitten by the bug, you will then learn the mechanical limits of your car and the track.. This will push you to do things like getting a second set of wheels and tires for track days only, because 19s on the track are useless (unless youre tom with CSL specific michelens on $$$$$) And preparing yourself a track day 'go bag'. After this, everything else on the road seems silly. Getting a bunch of mates alone who have their cars is awesome, some of the best times in cars are with this. Its a bit lonely doing it yourself so doing it with mates makes it soooo much better. Bank on around $400 each time. Which will include fluids, entry fee, petrol there, around the track and back, lunch and other random stuff. You can do it for cheaper but in the end thats what youll end up spending when you start to wear things out. So once you get into it .. Can start talking doing a superlap style thing .. Can put you in touch with Jamez if you want to know more about setting up an event at hamptons and what is required, tips etc.

Finally convinced the financial controller, ie wife, that a 550i wagon is a great all round vehicle. Pick it up tomorrow and can't wait. Already bringing back fond memories of my E39 540. Great to see such a lively NZ forum going, can't wait to participate and see what mods and works get done. Here's a pic from the dealer, ex Japan so some work on the ICE gear coming up in the near future. have to say the forum has so far helped a heap in my knowledge gaps, thank you all!!

Went a bit nuts on the wax and coated it 3 times and tooth brush cleaned it all.

Gents, we should go for a drive sometime over Xmas/New Year once Alice is running as she should!

Saw what must be a very rare or unique e63 Dinan 6 in Grey Lynn yesterday, if it's genuine. Looked amazing. The only Bangle BMW I'd own. Couldn't stop for a proper pic, sorry. Anyone know if it's the real deal and what Dinan tuning it has?

The open track days organised by the Playday guys are run pretty well imo and if anyone is being a wanker/dangerous they will tell you to piss off , I was worried about that sort of issues as well , but done numerous track days with them and haven't had any sort of issues tbh with the drivers there

Yeah ideally looking at sea freight, it's all crap that she doesn't use and probably won't even use when she gets them there, she's just a hoarder... I see where I get it from. Yeah, my youngest brother who just finished school got offered to go live there with her but he doesn't want to because, wait for it, he's bought an e30 and doesn't want to sell it. Massive face palm. I'd have given a testicle to have had that oppurtunity when I was his age!

Cheers People, very helpful. My son is at the point where we use his smaller stroller but I was trying to establish the case if there are two children and how a buggy / basinet may fit in as well. Still leaning towards a 335i at the moment!

The BMW race series isn't run by the BMW car club. But as all race series entrants require a motorsport affiliated car club we all have BMW car club memberships. Put a cage in it and enter Group B. I looked into the time attack event a little while back. Was impossible to get any info from them. Results were available with digging around on Facebook but NO times were listed. For a Time Attack event I would have thought the Times were most important. A friend ran his Type R Integra in the street class a while back. There was 3 cars in the class. He sat around most of the day and got a couple of very short runs. Said he would never bother again. Also Tom. The horrible sounding front tugging Honda's are only faster as we have minimum time restrictions in the BMW series. They don't. Plus they are Honda's. Nobody cares how fast they are.

Setup a BMW specific one Amber :P superlap BMWs Divided in - Non modified street class (fully stock cars bar perhaps better tyres, brakes and maybe suspension and minor engine mods - semi slicks allowed) - modified street class (for heavily modified cars ... with engine transplants, aero work, ect ... slicks allowed) - racecars/open (caged ect) Single lap practice run ... timed run ... and one cool down lap. Personally I think there would be enough interests and participants just from BMW owners.
