Lots more done over the last week, It's now drive-line wise completed. Wiring is all here, got the missing trans/o2 loom from an SMG M3 car and it's giant.. I plugged it all in for a test fire since I was at that point, initially would only get it to crank without fuel or spark, though the pump was priming each time. Dug around and found I missed a huge connector between 2 looms and another at the same plug for the coil loom. Pretty confusing because there is so many damn looms (4) and with the SMG one there is a big bunch of stuff obviously can't plug in. So now it's all running finally, stoked. I first panicked the DME wasn't right or the adapter loom was wrong or something, luckily my own amateur mistake. Since it goes I could finally find somewhere to put this giant mess of wiring.. Engine side it's pretty tidy, There's almost nothing that goes across to the driver side. But I now possibly sacrifice having a glovebox, a compromise I don't mind living with. Can't wait to take it for a spin, hopefully in a few more weeks

After nearly 5 years of owning this awesome car, I unfortunately have to put it up for sale to fund my travels at the end of this year. Hence, a reasonably urgent sale (I'm leaving in November). A summary of the main features is as follows: - 166,000kms - M50B25 - Lightweight m20 flywheel - 6puk clutch with heavy duty pressure plate - Getrag 220 5 speed gearbox - 3.64 LSD with Really Right Stuff gasket and Redline LSD oil - Raised oil sump and custom pickup - z3 shortshifter - full 2.5" exhaust - Ground control adjustable suspension (with receipt) - Full leather sports/recaro interior (worn through a bit on driver's side bolster) - Mtech II steering wheel, leather Msport gearknob - 16x8 0P XXR wheels - Genuine Mtech II body kit - Tinted lights, shadowlined window trim and grill - Delrin offset control arm bushes - Powerflex solid diff bush - Badges, side indicators and unnecessary engine bay brackets shaved - Tidy dash (minor cracking in the usual spots) - LVV certified for engine and suspension - Ultra-racing strut brace Within the last 6,000 or so kms the following has been done: - Replaced engine (done by Sam at HellBM) - New Sump Gasket - New Rocker cover gasket - New Oil filter housing gasket - New Spark plugs - Front wheel bearings - New Front Brake Pads - New thermostat and coolant I have a spreadsheet with service history over the time I've known it. Last service (Oil & filter) was approx 1000kms ago. As cliche as it sounds, this car has been my pride and joy. It has spent the vast majority of its life with me in the safety of my garage. I do have to make the point that it's not mint, with some imperfections to the paint, etc, however it is definitely one of the tidier E30s around. Another issue is that the heater blower isn't working. Hasn't bothered me enough to repair as the air still blows through when you're driving, but there looks to be plenty of information on google about this fix. Now for the price: I'm after $10k ono Feel free to ask any questions, or make offers which you think are fair. I would really prefer to sell this on here to keep this e30 in good hands (and to avoid the many clowns which tend to hang out on trademe!). If you're interested, you can contact me on here via PM or send me a txt on 0212938321.

Absolute stunning example, would love in my garage, next to an E30 M3 ^^^^^ Actually same $$ comparison could be used for E30 M3 v E30 M325i & those stack up in the real world

Took to the paint over the weekend. Full cut and polish. Managed to take off a lot of the touch up paint that had been put on by a previous owner and it looks a million times better. Not sure how well the photos will show it but here goes... Before: After: New engine is hopefully arriving later today so the real work will begin soon... Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk

Hi and yes, they're tantalum caps to the best of my knowledge. I just used what the DIY says to use because I have very little idea about electronics and wasn't going to second guess somebody that had already had success. So far so good... with any luck it will hold for years to come.

Price sounds about right for a classic, unmolestered, mint,'special' BMW. They wait for the right buyer however.

If you buy the timing chain etc from all euro parts you can hire the tools at the same time. Usually a 3 day period of loan.

Parts arrived. Forgot to order some extra critical bits though, so an extra 2 sets of vanos spring plates ordered. Vanos unit oil pump washer and circlips replaced with revision B versions. The new circlip retains more equal preasure on the washer beneath it. Have seen these end up in the oil pan.. You can see here how the pump drive has been squashing the washer and slowly eating away at it. New o-rings for the bank 1 vanos unit. The one under the 24mm socket in this pic doesn't seat nicely.. and ends up doing this if not seated correctly prior to instalment. This is the bank 2 vanos unit freshly removed : Installed the timing cover on bank 1 and removed bank 2. Not fun. bank 1 vanos unit back on. Timing set after and came out perfect after rotating the crank around for 3 cyl # 1 ignition TDC revolutions.

The grey actually makes the cabin feel more spacious than it really is. Have been in a few black leather E46s and they all felt more claustrophobic!

Time for a bigger desk at this rate. Could've removed both vanos units and timing covers at the same time but didn't want to risk loosing/forgetting where I put parts in an already cluttered garage. Looks like someone put a 540i lower chain tensioner in. Although they fit and measure up the same, the M5 tensioner has more.. tension. Hopefully the new one comes in before next weekend. Previous owner fitted a new water pump and was very generous with the silicone sealant, spent a while cleaning it all off and from the thermo housing cover in the first pic. Nekk week the mail man should be delivering all the seals, sensors, tensioners, washers, bolts and Eisenmman race exhaust to put this one back on the road.

I know I'm going to get shot at for this but the driving age in NZ needs to be raised to about 30 or so!... Worst drivers on the planet!!!

Bit more progress done today while I wait for new parts. HUGE thanks to Josh for helping me clean and re-solder the Vanos actuators. Vanos hubs and spring plate diaphragms removed but not before the upper chain cover comes off, there is a real b@stard of a bolt to get to, you can only turn it one flat at a time with a ring spanner, patience level 100 unlocked. The spring plates changed after 9/2001, these were made thicker, and the concaved plate is intalled back to front compared to the old style. This apparently helps significantly with vanos rattle, we'll see.

Steve, any chance that you can post up the non edited version? I'm keen to check out your style and pace side by side with my own (cough). I did the same a few years ago with Greg Spark and its very interesting what you pick up on. With greg I was faster throu the twisties but he held more speed on crests and high speed sweepers.
