Can't help sorry but I am bemused as to why you turned it right around to Valet position again without first confirming the reason of the first failure. Particularly after Allan's post above.

Hope it stays in the Bimmersport family, it;s a genuine classic this one. Surprised you're keeping the M5 over this little beauty!

I'd put a M54B30 and manual trans in it, good modern engine, plenty of parts around, would go well. M50 turbo is a lot of work, especially if you don't make up parts and weld it yourself. M60 would be easier, but finding a complete manual conversion kit is sometimes difficuilt and expensive, 6 cylinder trans don't work.

Finally after a long grueling process the v8 has passed all its checks and the cert plate has been ordered. So excited to finally have this car almost completed, unfortunately not early enough to be ready for mega meet. But bring on the summer cruising!

For sure. All options have their own difficulties, pros and cons. It's easy to over capitalise in the engine side of things, not so much with costs, but time and complexity. I think at least the M54 path is cost effective, offering an engine you can read with OBD2 systems for full code support if it plays up which is a real benefit over the older engines. I've had a few E34s over the years, would like another for sure. But one thing not to forget about is overhauling the suspension, especially on higher km examples, aside from the basics like shocks, its the ball joints, and just about every bush would need replacing, worth it in the long run of course!

oh, and thankfully our electricity cost is not geared to forex rates, unlike petrol and diesel. we're about to see price increases at the pump as the Jacinda Effect continues to quietly push our USD rate further south. 0.75 in July 17, now 0.68 and inexorably falling.

I see, you only want to hear things you already agree with? This is a thread about an EV. Is this not an appropriate forum for an EV discussion?

I find it extremely ironic to have this picture linked here, when the peer reviewed academic article I posted in a different thread is called propaganda. One doesn't have to like EVs to understand they are cleaner. One doesn't have to like EVs to see they are objectively better for the environment, even when you account for the batteries, and the entire manufacturing process, including disposal. (This is precisely what the academic article I posted is all about.) Anyone wanting to stick with their ICE because it sounds better, all the power to you. I have one too. But let's not pretend they are cleaner, in any way. I presume everyone understands fossil fuels are a finite resource. One can perhaps debate how much longer it'll be an abundant resource like it's been in the past 150ish years, but that it is finite is not a debate at all. Shall we stick heads in the sand and pretend otherwise because of this picture? Please.

a little below the "ASKING PRICE" in the international market -there is a glut of these for sale, and a lot of them are sale proof- unrealistic vendors not moving to meet the market. At the asking price you could buy several cars that would satisfy the most ardent enthusiast amongst us and still have several thousand dollars left in your wallet!
