An update for anyone that's interested. Been ticking a few boxes off on the E39. Alot of the work that needed doing, just needed time and some fiddling. Headlights polished and ended up being the retrofitted Hella kind. The sunroof drains were loose, letting the water in through the a-pillars. A bit of RTV and some weed-wacker-wire to clear the drain and it's good as gold. New number plates ordered to replace the beat up ones, a $23.50 bargain. Got a new front guard from pick-a-part. Rear cup holders and vent replaced. Rear window regulator replaced (swaged portion on the cable had come out of bracket). Leather cleaned and looks great. Found and fitted a rear cargo cover and net. New tailgate liner (still need to fix locking issue). Wheels cleaned up quite nicely. The oil burning and dropped cylinder ended up being a tired CCV. Replaced it and it runs mint. Has a new radiator, thermostat and water pump. Just going to replace the hoses and the expansion tank. Money saved from not having to swap the engine will go to the roof repair. All in all, happy ish with the car once I got over the initial shock. Realising now how hard a black car is to keep clean lol.

Personally would get 1M if you want a manual

Pretty sure you can code it out with an iCarly or using Bimmercode etc. Or code it to remember last setting then when the greenie state kicks in properly you won't fail a wof for disabling an emissions system

Kind of the essence of the S54B32 engine, always has had a raspy twang even with all of the different exhausts I've heard.

These autostop starts are a real con imo, extra wear on the engine equipment and the vibrations you have to feel every time the engine cuts off and turns back on. I hear them at the traffic lights and just cringe! For such a small engine the fuel consumption is minimal at traffic lights anyway. I know from experience my 30 year old V8 Soarer engine uses about 1 liter of fuel idling for 30 minutes from a cold start, a modern 3 cylinder would be a fraction of that, especially at operating temperature. Hopefully you will work-something software related out. It would be good to bypass that. A while back in one of my Soarers to disable TRC on start up (a momentary button, single press) I made up a timer than closed a relay for a around 500ms which would activate and close the circuit after a few seconds turning the TRC off each time, this of course required modified wiring which is likely not ideal in your late model warrantied car however but it worked for my application.

So the M5 is just as fast and make cool sounds. Arguably the only good looking car BMW makes at the moment too. Also notice how the bonnet to fender line gap grew as the M5 got faster, air pressure in the engine bay must have been pressing it up.. that's some rather disappointing quality, I'd prefer not to know my bonnet was lifting at higher speeds haha

And now off road for the big job... as much time on cleaning as there is on the more fun stuff...

Funnily enough, the other two profiles bidding against me looked to be wreckers. Makes me feel better knowing I might have potentially saved this tank.

Anyone know any more about this vehicle?

I have thought about that. Kiwi accents on videos is always super cringe though! It's always a bit more work than most people realise by the time you buy a few cameras and start editing. I could do it, but I think it would detract from my enjoyment of the work faffing around trying to record my manic work methods haha.

Wife has a new toy, a 2020 F40 118i couple of annoying issues I can't figure out. Firstly the autostop/start is horrible, the car shudders when stopping and even worse when starting, guess that's an issue with 3 cyl as it sounds very tractor like when idling anyway. Goes extremely well when actually running so its not a tuning issue or anything. There is a manual button to disable autostop but it reverts at each journey to back on. I have ordered an enet cable but does anyone know if this is codeable for permanent disable. We don't live in a high traffic area and I would say the auto stop would save basically less than 1ltr of petrol per year. 2nd we back out the drive, stop and put car into park to shut the gates and the minute you open the door the engine turns off. same on the way home again and you actually have to push the start button to continue. Surely this can be overiden? have never seen any automatic car do this before and its crazy annoying.
