What a bloody rigmarole, couldn't sleep so spent 4 hrs finishing the tank off, ready to reinstall. Ended up putting the third pump back in, meh. Perhaps drilling a hole into the top of the filter regulator WASNT the return, idiot, it was the second fuel feed to the front, so instead of plugging the hole, I may as well use it. Would be hard to do this whole job in the car and with any fuel at all in the tank, you'd be passed out, as I did when I tried it last. Lots to build with two hands in the tank. 100% happy with it all now, what can be replaced has been replaced and enough fuel for whatever eventuates.

Over weekend completed installing cabin speaker wiring. Two pairs of speaker wire to each door connector for tweeter and door mid bass. Another pair to each underseat woofer position. F80 reasonably straight forward to run wires down either side. Getting to front connectors a bit more involved. The FEM modules covers passenger side and DAB tuner covers driver side. Due care required to move modules out of way for access to connectors. Install also reinforced using nothing larger that 18 awg / 0.85mm2 thin walled cable. Anything larger and it would be problematic fitting connector pins. Running the Amplifier Most cable to IDrive was via left side and firewall took time. Used Tesa tape rather than cable ties to secure as fibre easy to break and doesn’t like tight radius. Routed it underneath looms so no chance of pinching or pressure. 5 metre length was just enough at either end. When taking idrive out I wasn’t expecting to see an Most connection. But despite base audio the F80 LCI uses Most audio between cluster and idrive. Now need a Most Y cable to create a fibre ring between idrive - cluster - Mobridge Amp. Added a wifi antenna to the idrive unit. NTB Evo 4.1 doesn’t use wifi but seeing posts of software upgrades for 6.1 on the older units to enable car play etc. Possible future coding option but does render factory navigation inoperable. Learnings from the weekend is I need to chunk this down to 1 or 2 hour work bundles for health reasons. Super tired but did enjoy doing it.

An update from me - the initialisation of the light & rain sensor made my auto wipers much better thank you @M3AN ! I gave them a test on Saturday when it was lightly raining in the 04 and they were much more responsive to moisture on the windscreen. In the past I've had to bump the wipe stick down to get the car to wipe the windscreen sometimes as it's taking far too long, but on Saturday it was Johnny on the spot. I *think* the auto headlights are working better (not on as much during the day) - but I might take a bit more convincing. I noticed that after adding those options to the BC menu they also appear in the iDrive in the "Light" menu (the same one with the triple turn signal setting and the home lights setting). Its called "Auto Light Control" and the options are "Slow, Normal and Sensitive" which isn't quite what I expected and I've wondered if this setting is more about how quickly the lights turn on/off when transitioning from lighter to darker places rather than the lux level required to turn the lights on or off? e.g. maybe if the lux gets below xxx it waits a few seconds longer on "Slow" than "Normal" before turning the lights on? Today I was sitting in traffic about 3:45pm and the lights were on. They had been off for most of my drive. It was overcast but not raining and not what I would consider anywhere near dusk. I changed the setting to "Slow" while waiting for the traffic lights to change but the headlights didn't turn off, but did a few minutes later. Will see how it goes.

Just chucking my 2c into this one ... really want(ed) the modern Blaupunkt https://blaupunkt.com/product/frankfurt-rcm-82-dab/ as I only have the single DIN space. It's just so expensive though I could not justify it ultimately 😕 I did read a thread some place else that described modern headunits as looking like a 'robots dildo' which was a good lol Anyhooo I went with the Alpine mechless UTE-73EBT as the least terrible looking option. Have the centre mount kit on the way from BMW. Another option that is interesting is the JVC which is single DIN and has a screen for reverse camera, which is fairly unique. https://nz.jvc.com/car/audio_receivers/kd_x560bt/ Looking forward to seeing the finished result, jealous getting the car play / android auto compatibility !!

In between watching the Nurburgring 24hr and finishing the fuel tank off and finally getting the Golf R back from E&H, its been busy. Golf managed a bit less than 370whp at all fours, feels enough for the daily. Runs at 28lbs, had a boost tap sitting under a map sensor causing heat soak into the sensor which I sorted/removed afterwards, so the dyno was run with 45+ deg C IATs, so expect a little higher hp now that I se low 20's deg C on the mway. Meth/water injection half installed, almost the last job on the project. Bits turned up for the fuel tank, found some factory limitations with the filter/regulator assembly. The fuel feed into the filter then regulator is tiny. Opened up the old one to investigate, very unserviceable. Perhaps later Ill replace it entirely (for an aftermarket performance type one, much larger lines etc) if I need to. For now its a OEM replacement. Yip, this is the internal fuel tank feed line to the HPFP (and also port injection rail) , doesn't matter how many pumps you add (apart from the fuel pump controller getting pushed past its capacity), this will be the limitation. Added some foam packers that sit against the tank and the chassis that over time disappeared. Redrilled the new fuel return into the top of the filter/reg. Moved the position slightly as it was rubbing against the fuel supply and return connectors. New O-Rings for the buckets etc Then had my usual garage party Friday night session to have a look at the engine bay bits, Painted some stuff, made some sh*t, fixed down the radiator reservoir with mounts

Got the resin infused today !! There were a couple of microscopic leaks identified during the infusion process which were sealed with mastic, crossing fingers there is no air against the mold side.
