3000 then 8000 sand then polish and it's looking pretty good. Still some fine sanding marks remain but at this stage i think it can be bonded on and will see about some more work on it later. Top priority now is making the Mad Max caulking gun

I would suggest you have got a snowball in hell’s chance of people moving over to let you pass If they are holding you up. These are most likely the same people that can’t keep left on a two lane road, let alone maintain a speed near the limit. And as for multi lane motorways, absolutely no chance, sit in the middle lane at about 20km/h below the limit to be “safe”. The driving standards in NZ are getting worse by the day, no point worrying about speed limits when the majority of drivers don’t have the basic skills necessary for daily driving.

@C-130 Hercules what type of racing is he going to be doing? Many series require safety gear over and above the suit boots and helmet. MSNZ mandate fire proof undies for most series, and HANS is needed by many (a good idea tbh). This is another big cost to racing having all the safety gear (don’t forget the 5kg fire extinguisher for the pits, 1kg in the car, etc) it’s a big investment up front to try something you might not get along with. My gear has been sitting in the wardrobe in-used for a long time, happy to lend out my HANS which will fit any suitable helmet. Or any other stuff he might need (probs not the undies though..).

if you plan on keeping it, and spannering yourself, bite the bullet and get Bimmergeeks Protools and an adapter... its pretty much mandatory if you DIY (Does all the NCS/ISTA etc stuff with less faff and in a solid Android GUI). I switched a mates F20 to NZ stations last week, took like a minute

Slow progress still, but progress none the less !! Got 4 additional coats of clear on the roof last weekend which was great, less orange peel than last time and no new fish eyes thanks to triple cleaning with wax n grease remover. However did manage to get a lot more dust and crap in it 😂 So back onto the sanding (hence the 4 coats) ... this time have gone for 800 hand then 1200, 3000 (pictured) and then 8000 machine before polish. Biggest issue at the moment is getting a hold of a dual cartridge caulking gun that can take the BMW (SikaForce 7888) adhesive ... the one I got from RA Johnston can't deal with the girth of the thing. Short of getting a gun from over seas at great expense for a one off job I will have to make something ... that's the weekend project, so I can bond the thing on finally !!
