Another problem needing solving with this conversion is oil level measurement - the N54 never came with a physical dipstick, relying instead on checking the oil level via the oil level sensor. While it is possible to use a scan tool to measure the oil level, I'd prefer to have a quick and easy way of doing this on the go, leading me down the next rabbit hole - designing an in-cluster display to show the oil level (and any other interesting information, such as exact vehicle speed, oil/coolant temperature, etc). The design is based on an off-the-shelf SPI display, paired with a custom (own design) circuit board using a PIC32MK with a single CAN channel: 3D print a housing for the screen out of ABS (don't worry, this cluster isn't the actual cluster I'll be using in the vehicle, just a testing one): Test fitting and adjusting positioning with the cluster face loosely fitted:

Now 69 (nice!). If they bring it down to a more realistic 55, 57 at a stretch, I'll pick it up. The listing on the Oxford green one is a shambles. The blue one at chch european is fully clapped out and isn't worth half what they're asking. E39 M5 market sucks 😫

Another mild change-up underway. I've picked up some carbon parts from offshore, so am in the process of installing them. First off the bootlid, mix of pre and post facelift bits:

Been spending plenty of quality time with the F31 - May not be the most thrilling drive but is bloody practical and looks great. Had the rack bushing replaced again (free repair FTW) and new front tyres - post prang she’s looking as good as new.

Made me search up some old pics. Unfortunately pre-2015 are all photobucket so have watermarks (they're on the first few pages of this thread if you're interested). It had 20in Work wheels originally which I swapped for some BBS LM reps in 2012 or so. Still have all oem parts in storage (including all the oem wheels). This car is like lego, which keeps me interested over so many years. Although my interests have changed of late to much older cars from a different German brand, this one remains...! It has outlasted a lot (and was a bit touch and go for a while there whether I could keep him).

Cars on Sunday Drive are just stupid pricing, I believe they sell on consignment mostly

Was wondering when a thread about this one would pop up... Pretty disgusting state of affairs when dealers are asking $20+k above market value without even wanting to spend a few hundred on a new shift knob or getting the steering wheel, leather seats properly treated. Close to zero effort and investment yet are asking a premium. Probably looked at that blue one listed at $90k and figured this one is a bargain at 60, not realizing the first one is horrifically overpriced by 2x. Pretty sure there have been much better examples listed for less very much recently. Not sure who would in their right mind would fork out $60k for it when there's a like 5 E60 M5's to choose from all at under $40k.
