I have a missing link in my project car I know exactely what I'm using as far as motor, trans, diff, brakes, suspension, cooling system, manifolds, fuel system etc. But I need some help I have a shopping list, but I'm not going there untill I have a solution to my ignition delema I was going to use an E28 distributor & cam in the M30 motor, but thats involved and not accurate I have designed a 6 cylinder hall effect triggering system using 6 hall sensors to fit inside the motronic distributor cap housing using E46 coil over ignition coils. But I need some advise on where to go next ( or start again ). I need ignition advance with engine load control without getting too silly. I want to have direction with this project & dont want to try this, then try that I'm going to use a M30 3.5litre with side draught carbs. Not using motronic or injection Any clued up sparkies on the forum that can help me with this ??? Would appreciate some help with this Cheers Glenn

They were custom made by Autosport Seats NZ Ltd.... about a $1000 she tells me

Let the fun begin... I bought this yesterday..I wont devulge how much... it'll make you cry Less than some of the shitters on tardme 1990 316 coupe, I lady owner (another petrol head), NZ new, 200k, no rust, AC, no power steering (I'll change that) cracks in dash (I've got a mint one) the momo's coming out ( I have a mint Mtech ) manual windows and no sun roof. The towbars coming off too. The mag wheels are all mint (no scratches) with new Pirelli's. Alot of this will be getting sold once I start doing the conversion. Will start the mock up on the other car first. Its a real mint one....just what I wanted for the project

+1....totally agree with you

Ignition switches play up to. When the vehicle plays up check voltage of fuse 41 and voltage at the violet wire on the back of the ignition switch. Should be the same as battery voltage or with the engine running it should be the same as system voltage. I still think you should get it scanned first....before you do anything at all. Don't start playing unless you diagnose the problem first. You could regret it.

Yes I've seen those Brent....Could be cheaper to get them made here tho, with exchange rate, freight & customs. You can get the engine mounts for the conversion in the UK too.But I'll make my own I'm not restricted by engine height because I'm not using the original manifold which sits over the rocker cover and I've got rid of the vacuum booster. I can also use better engine mounts as well. I'm not going to run the viscous coupling and fan blade either. I'm going to run 2 stage electric blower fan with 95' & 105' switches switching the air con relays for the fan. I'm probably not going to run air/con either. I found a company in South Africa that makes the inlet manifolds for the conversion. I just have to supply him pictures with reference measurements so he can give them to me with the correct clearance angles. Thats why I'm using the spare car to do the mock up first. Doesnt matter if I scratch or dent it........ or hack it. Ive really researched this very hard, and I just dont want to do the same old conversion that every one else has done before. I want to do something very different. It surprised me that no one else has done the brake mod that I'm going to do. Couldnt find that on any of the forums. I know the M30 is motronic, but I'm going to convert it to distributor as in the picture Will posted, probably using a E28 front head timing cover and E28 camshaft that has a different drive on the end for the distributor.I'll just have to change the agle of the drive to get bonnet clearance I'm also considering different options. Wayne Frost from EFI Tech is looking into the alternatives for me. Cant use a DME because of the side draughts. I also think I've found the car I'm wanting to...picking it up today to check it over. 1990 316I Coupe. Hellrot red, manual, Ricaros, momo wheel, short shift, lowered & no cracks in the dash. Belongs to a customer. I never ever thought she would part with it. She had 3 cars at one stage E36 328 manual coupe, Z3 & the E30. All Hellrot, black interiors and manuals. She sold the 328 and shes just going to keep the Z3 now. I'll be posting pictures and documenting this whole conversion from start to finish and I'm going to try and use all OE parts where I can. Like my 318TI. Any suggestions ??? just fire away. And if anyone wants more information.....just ask here or call me. Cheers Glenn

Thanks will Seeing it like that, I know now how I can get round it... I think I'll cut and weld it to get the right angle and get it recast, or buy a new one if you still can & just cut & weld ( the front distributor drive cover ) I should be devulging my project I spose I turned blonde and changed my mind No M52B28 any more M30 3.5 litre now with side draughts, extractors, cam, port & polish, balance, lightened flywheel, 5 speed manual and the rest I posted.....should edit the opening thread I spose... I'll do it later Cheers Glenn

Just thought I would pop this in...it might help someone else I've started the new project mock up with a stuffed E30 I'm using this car to mock up all my mods first ....before the real thing I dont know why the poms & yanks havent thought of this before This is one way of getting rid of the vacuum booster and replacing it with a hydraulic booster which works of the power steering pump. There are quite a few mods to do and the rack has to be overhauled to run LHM instead of G3. Power steering racks run 110-120 bar pressure and will take 200 bar (I've checked). This system works on 120-150 bar pressure. It will work with ABS & non ABS. This mock up is with ABS. Cheers Glenn

Is that a picture of what you want or the 318 I you have ?? If thats your 318, I would be interested in buying it I'm havin trouble finding the right car for my project Cheers Glenn
-
The ABS pump is sitting on the R/H inner guard 6 pipes go into the top of it. Just disconnect the the wiring harness plug. If in doubt get it scanned by an independant or the dealers.

If its the type with the button on the end of the wiper stalk, you push the button in to activate & again to deactivate You pull the stalk towards you for front washers and away from you for rear washers The switches are prone for failing, I have a new one in my hand at the mo for a customer Did you get a owners manual with the car ??? If so, would be a good idea to read it & familiarise yourself with all the controls. And to find where everything is. Hope this helps Cheers Glenn

I'm picking this is the E39 ?? If all those indicator lights are coming on, its not only pads and rotors ABS pump is faulty by the sounds of it. You need to get it scanned. Disconnect the ABS pump wiring harness. Start the car and see if everything else works normally. The ABS pump is the first link in the canbus system and will effect other controls when it is faulty. The circuit boards crack in the control unit on the pump We use Rob at Power Stop Engineering in Tauranga to do our pumps Ph. (07) 5788909 Hope that helps Or call me (09) 2722546 or 021921377 Cheers Glenn
