  7. Thats quite true, but you guys are like doctors, our mistakes end up on the doorstep on Monday morning Yours end up at the morgue
  8. The hourly rate covers all the white shirts and contributes to warranty repairs that BMW AG do not cover in full
  9. You normally start an apprentice on minimum wage for the 3 month trial period to guage his abilities and education standard, then you either let him go or get on with it. I always pay more than I should. Alot goes into training a person, and if he's comitted, he gains too and so does the NZ Motor Industry I have 40 yrs experience in the industry and where does that go when I'm gone ??? I have experience with aircraft, military vehicles, helicopters, marine (petrol & diesel) and 30 yrs BMW Hopefully I'm helping someone, myself and the Industry at large. Just my 2 cents worth Just wish Alex some luck with his quest
  10. If the rear muffler is a real cheapy and made of thin wall material, its never goin to work. The muffler wall flexes with exhaust gas pulse and causes the noise
  11. Very hard to get Alex, I've been trying for 2yrs and gave up. Was willing to pay $30 an hour as well. All I got was people, who couldnt communicate, didn't have tools, no residency and have never worked in the same environment as we do, but they still wanted top dollars. I ended up taking on another apprentice who I'll train "my way" Best of luck with your adds, but you'll probably just enrichen your advertisers Cheers Glenn PS: "poaching" or "headhunting" seems the way the dealers go up here. Not something I would do though. Had it done to me several times....good people that I had spent time on training.

  16. From a repairers point of view, I find Lumley, Motorplus and Autosure (Vero) the easiest to deal with. Always buy the dearest policy you can afford, because they have repair limits and different excesses. Your policy does not include service items, general maintainence, wear & tear or expendibles. The policies are only for the mechanical failure of a part and they will not cover pre-existing faults with the vehicle at the point of sale. Failure to service at correct intervals will invalidate your warranty and you would have to apply in writing to get it reinstigated. On a public forum, I would not state which Companies to stay away from.... sorry....it's not the done thing. And I would suggest that others don't. Any information I am quite happy to give you over the phone.....just ring me If you are in Auckland, I can sell you a Motorplus warranty after an inspection A 3 year warranty with $150 excess costs $1050.oo over 2000cc A 3 year warranty with $250 excess costs $1000.oo over 2000cc Its $200 cheaper if the car is under 2000cc These prices are for Euro Exotic motor vehicles So long as the car has not covered more than 175,000 km and is not over 12 years old I cannot give a Forum discount on these policies. However I can do the inspection for $100 the same cost as a pre-purchase inspection for forum members. Cheers Glenn
  17. Not mant wreckers will split them up either now. They only selling whole kits because of demand
  18. +1 I would definately not go there. The towed weight is greater than the vehicle towing. The trailer will take over in an emergency

  23. Its hard doing it that way.. a hoist is much easier However, this will help Before you start this, make sure your front engine mounts are not broken. And you will have to remove the exhaust to allow the engine to drop sufficiently. Put the car up on 4 axles stands ( make sure its safe ) and the axle stands are on the chassis rails. Take out the front cross member bolts one at a time, then put them back 3 or 4 complete turns, this will allow the motor and front cross member to drop down to give you more clearance. When you remove the rear gearbox cross member the box will hang down sufficiently to get to the top torx bolts. We use a 800mm 3/8 extension, universal & torx socket ( these must be good quality ) and you must make sure the socket fits correctly or you will strip the head on the torx bolt. These bolts are usually very tight and you might have to use a 3/8 to 1/2 inch adaptor with a 1/2 inch ratchet or power bar. When refitting the gearbox you will need to raise the front of the motor to get the box in without bending the clutch centre plate ( getting out is easy because you have the weight of the box on the back of the motor ) Its best to use a guard mounted, adjustable, engine support bracket, but if you cant get the use of one, carefully jack up the front of the motor with a piece of wood with a jack. Be carefull not to jack to high or you will lift the car off the axle stands. And make sure the fan and fan shroud dont get damaged and your radiator hoses dont get stretched too much. To be on the safe side...take them off. As a safety precaution, while working on the car, put blocks of wood under all the wheels and keep the handbrake on you will need to release the handbrake to undo the driveshaft, but when you start removing the box, make sure its on and the blocks of wood are under the wheels.......we dont want a squashed forum member.....just take your time and be careful. Also disconnect your battery. Hope this helps Cheers Glenn
