  1. Sorry mate I shouldve mentioned that shouldnt I ! For me its the two front that leak inside the cabin. They are only pushed onto the drains on the sunroof panel, what Ill do is stick some clips on. Cant for the life of me remember the name of the screw but they get tighter as you screw them up !! I also have the drains blocked off by two rubber 'floats' when there is no water they cover the hole to stopthe crap getting down them, the float on the water when it is there. Im going to clean those up and possibly replace them. They are only on a pivot thats screwed into the roof so Im sure they can seize after time. Ive also put some fish tank sealant around the piece that sits over the mechanism. Thats unlikely to be needed when the rest is done but if it blocks again it might sort it. I have some photos on the laptop but am a little busy today, when I get a quite spot Ill stick them on so you can see what I mean.....hold on Ill try and get the website that I picked them up from instead. Try here fo a start Ollie Follow the links about on e38.org is thats no good. Sorry its not an e30 but it should give you some help. The floater thing I have is in the bottom left corner under the front flap and its about 6 inches long....arf arf :-)
  2. Ollie I have the exact same problem in the 7. Although the drains are fine they cant drain the water fast enough and so it pools around the side and if left for long enough it starts dripping in through the mechanism. Very difficult to describe so Ill try and find a photo to help. What I did with mine, was to open the roof and use an old drink bottle to squirt the water only where I wanted it to go, you need to remove the trim around the A, B and C pillars and the headlining probably, thankfully I could where mine was leaking without removing the headlining but I'll still need to do that to fix the drains. Its my understanding that the seals around the roof are not designed to keep the water out but to provide a seal against wind noise, so replacing them may not make any difference.
  3. Just a quick reply cause Im a little busy at the mo, but I would defiantely consider bringing the car over. Fen, I did the same as you three years ago (moved from the UK to NZ) and brought my e38 740. If you want to chat about it send me a PM, we had a terrible time and found alot of pitfalls but I would definately do it again, especially knowing what I know now. A 530d touring would be my dream car at the moment ! [edit - for spelling and grammar!]

We had someone hit the Scooby a couple of months ago and they sorted it pretty quickly but the people they insisted we use I wouldnt use myself. Im not entirely happy with the results. 9. Not at all mate, Its got nothing to do with the power and everything to do with space.I bet even you couldnt get in the back of the M3 when I have the front seat all the way back so whats the point of it having 4 doors ? Leave the M3 as a proper sports car, a 2 door coupe, and let those who need 4 doors buy the 330/335 (or whatever it is these days).
  10. What would concern me about a luxury motor looking like that is that if the owner doesnt bother to keep it clean what else dont they bother to do. For me 45k is a massive drop on what these cars are worth, so whats the catch ? Im not saying there is anything wrong with it, but simple things like that start my alarm bells ringing.
  11. Anyone who would take that over an M5 needs their head checking out in my opinion. Nice car but I wouldnt want to take four people in it, whereas the M5 would do it easily.
  12. The 745 on trademe looks nice and cheap but its a bit dirty isnt it ? Never understand why people dont clean there cars before selling them. Just out of interest I saw a couple of E65 in Lower Hutt over the weekend, didnt pay much attention but both very nice and both under 60k. Obviously I dont know if that suits your budget but if you havent seen them perhaps its a chance to check out two more to see how they are.
  13. If you want pimp then it has to be the 7.....aspen silver, tints, dechromed, lowered on sports suspension with 18' polished m-pars. Unfortunately, Auckland and tonight are downsides but at least the good looking male part is sorted

    New to me E39 540

Very nice, looks like an M5 front skirt to me and the wheels are M5 'style' as well. If they are staggered front to back and have the little ///M badge on them they may well be genuine. Talk to Jochen about your Nav issues, although do you have the CD rather than the DVD sat nav ? Always worth having your toys working if you have them
  15. Ive been saying for years that if you want bang for your buck you cant go passed the Falkens
  16. Arent they the brake linings ? Check your brake pads as they may be getting low or the sensors may be wearing out. But most likely your pads are getting low. The thing is that is generally agreed that even though the sensors say they are low, there is plenty of life left in them. THe answer may be to get used to the light for a while, but check your pads to be safe.
  17. When I had a similar problem it was the rotor arm, make sure you check the simple things before getting too involved.
  18. Definately the 7. Ive driven both of these and the 7 wins hands down. Size is a factor Ill give you that but I get my 740 around town easily enough, PDC is a must have and my driveway is not the easiest to access either. In terms of interior space the 5 was surprisingly small. Not just for someone of my size either but their just didnt seem to be the space to be really comfortable. In terms of on-road 'presence' the 7 wins without getting out of the driveway ! I was once told by a dealer that the wisest choice between fully spec'ing a 5 versus a 7 was that all the kit you could add to the 5 will be standard in the 7 and much more saleable in the long run. Issues, I know the early E65's had problems but if its been through the full BMW check you should be happy enough and if you get the 2 year warranty on it then you are sorted. Also if Jochen can get all the kit working then you have a seriously brilliant car for very little money. To add to the dilema, have you thought about bringing one in from Japan yourself ? You can save you a bundle if you do the research and are willing to wait for the right car.

    Emma's M325i

A couple of slightly off-topic questions.... Do pre facelift mudflaps fit on facelift cars ? Im wondering if there is any difference to the rears fitting as the arches are different. I saw a programme from the UK this morning where a guy fixed a dashboard using glue to fill in the gap and then primed and painted it. It was mint after he'd finished has anyone contemplated doing this to their cracked dash ? Mine has dozens so I could always try it myself ! Keep the wheels Em, look much better than baskets IMO
