  1. Yep, Martyn's correct - LHD unit screen will be at wrong angle for RHD - sit in the passenger seat & see.

I had one from when I updated to 16:9 screen but sold it a while ago.

Must surely be some floating around wreckers by now, same monitor is fitted in E38 & 39 so this widens the options.

Other thing to do: Upgrade to 16:9 unit (Plug& Play) but you also need to replace the video module as well

  2. Has anyone bought anything from Bimmernav.com? If so, how was your experience?

With the new laws regarding mobile phone use while driving coming into force soon I thought its a good time to upgrade my built in phone to the BMW bluetooth system.

However I can't see the bluetooth kits listed on the Bimmernav store any more. I've emailed them and thus far haven't heard back.

If they no longer sell the kits where else can I get one from? Is there a local supplier?

    Cheers

    Matt

Yep, bought a Bluetooth upgrade from them for a Jap E39 that I converted Jap phone to Euro system (I had already done the nav & radio change in this car) Once Bluetooth was going the car had voice control nav & phone :) Brilliant!

Funnily enough was looking on their site the other day re E65 & their Bluetooth wasn't there either. Didn't look re E39 though

  3. I was there also. Great to walk the track and yes it will be a fantastic facility for drivers and spectators.

There is some serious rise and fall which will be interesting for those of us in low powered E30s.

Still quite a bit to do though. Good to see they were still laying seal on a sunday whilst hundreds of people were on the track.

    Cheers

Agreed, I was there too but not till nearly 3pm so didn't catch any of you guys :(

Was thinking exactly the same while walking it re low power/rise/fall

  4. Marcus, These insurance covers are bloody good at excluding plenty of possibles to go go wrong with a car.

Fair call on consumable parts but there are also a host of non consumables that they won't cover & they are also good at covering things that DON'T fail.

Makes me laugh when I have seen in "covered" Clutch, but excludes wear.

In reality - normally, what the hell else goes wrong with a clutch but for wearing out?

Don't know specifically but from experience - all are pretty similar.

  5. Gareth,

Firstly - Jap E39's don't have alarms. Euro/NZ cars do.

Clown nose is receiver for IR remote (Jap system) Euro cars use RF system.

Aim your key to this for locking/unlocking

When fitted with alarms - the LED is inside the clown nose

Switch attached (from memory) is for day/night control for mirror

Cars are equipped with four keys from factory (& if lucky as I was - you get all four :) ) -very uncommon with an import.

Two as you show (master), one valet & one emergency (plastic) -all are chipped.

This vintage only came with two button remotes, later cars keys came with three button.

I too have one master slightly scungy but not as bad as yours.

Yes, replacements are $350 ish & ex Germany (from your 7 digit vin)

If you only have one then I suggest you get another as if you lose/wreck this one - your car aint going nowhere.

  6. ok, so i want to see how good you guys really are.

engine is not starting, it cranking fine and battery is good. have no spark in all 4 cylinders (4A-FE engine), sparkplugs are fine, HT leads to sparkplugs are fine. What can would cause this, keeping in mind its electronic ignition.

im guessin it could hav something to do with the CPS??? maybe its faulty or something? i dont know.

    please help

    cheers, James

So 4A-FE engine in what? Beemer? If so then could be anything as nothing is standard OE

  7. Theres really no difference in the build. The Jap - Singapore debate relates to the environments the vehicles are subjected to. Singapore vehicles have noticably faster decay of the rubbers all around the car. There's also things like most of the cars that head there have the air con blocked off. This damages the system and if the car is exported into NZ for example and the new owner wants the air con reactivated then in some cases the whole system needs an overhaul.

Jap imports are generally prefered over Singapore imports.

I don't know where singapore cars where built but Jap BMW's are assembled in Japan.

Nick, Built in Germany but with Jap spec/content.

Not sure that Japan builds BMW at all but stand to be corrected

  8. I thought both Japan and Singapore were supplied by BMW South Africa? I could be wrong. NZ new BMW cars are German made. I couldn't comment on the perceived build quality differences. They're all cars, and going to break at some point. I like NZ new, purely because it's better the devil you know! (Service history etc)

Most cars out of Germany. A lot of Jap E30's came from Africa though

  9. Not necessarily. Singapore cars, due to climate, are more prone to electrics/electronics failing & along with rubber/plastic degradation. Depends on age/time spent there though.

Also some not fully specced with heaters.

+ side -radio/nav/phone all the same as here. Japs all different

Jap, normally more bells/whistles but as above - some alien to rest of world.

    - side - Non servicing/Tokyo traffic in some cars (same can be for Singapore though)

Bloody IR remote instead of RF

  10. Yeah I had a heap of fun over the weekend. Vert tired now though. And that little bit more deaf than I was on Thursday.

Everyone really stepped it up a notch today in the E30's. The reverse grid was great fun but such a shame they made us waste 3 laps behind the SC. When there was no need for it.

Was surprised to see 7 cars enter into the 1:14's in the last points race.

Time to pull the E30 ignition and fuel system apart to figure out why I loose power after coming through castrol and going around the hairpin. Suspected Fuel Pressure loss. Got worse and worse over the weekend.

    Bugger, didn't see todays racing.

Dan - what/who was the safety car for?

Roll on Manfield :) not to quickly though - need to get the car sorted

  11. What is the appeal?

Because I can...and there are aprox. 100 E30 coupes and sedans, so why not.

I also have a pair of keen female drivers .

    Why? Because I can ...

Like the logic, will be great to see a Touring on the track. I had a scruffy one that I thought very seriously of making my race car before building my current one. Not really sure why I didn't in hindsight
