Glenn, my preference would be a M30 3.5 purely for the fun. Mate of mine put one in a gutted e30, (mounted back into the firewall a bit to help balance), fitted 3 twin choke 48's, a radical cam, properly profiled coilover suspension etc. Went like stink, sounded absolutely out of this world and handled like on rails. Had that "animal" feel about it... 2.8 motor is too smooth and civilised imo.. Will

Just to expand on what Hotwire has stated.. Q1. You need an airflow meter, but must make sure you get the correct airflow meter for the motor you are using. Some airflow meters have 4 wires in and others have 5. The airflow meter plug on the engine wiring loom will tell you which one yours uses. Make sure it is an airflow meter off a 2.5 motor. Q2. you connect a return fuel to the petrol tank to this point. Q3. Yes, but use a proper vacuum pipe here or it will collapse under vacuum and your brakes will broke.... Q4. This is not used in a motronic motor, in fact this fitting on your manifold is usually seen on an earlier non-motronic motor where that takeoff point goes to an idle stabiliser that prevents the car from stalling if you blip the throttle. Just block it off. Q5. You connect the fuel line from the fuel pump to this point on the fuel rail.(not to the front as in Q2!!) Also ensure that you use the correct fuel pump, different pumps have different pressures and can cause all sorts of problems if the wrong pump is used. Must be a pump for a 2.5 motronic motor. Q6. Not all motors use an oxygen sensor, you will need to check what the car the motor came from had installed, if you are unsure take the vin number to BMW and get them to query it, that will tell you whether it was equipped with an oxygen sensor. If yours had an oxygen sensor, it would go in the manifold downpipe fairly close to where it connects to the cast iron exhaust manifold, I would also get a new one if you need it as these things can be quite problematic and not worth messing around with a second hand one... (imo anyway). You can also get rid of the oxygen sensor by using a CPU from a car that didn't come with one from the factory. Q7. I applaud you for jumping into the deep end and giving it a go. This is how I started so many years ago now (hahahaha, I am such an old git now! ), I do not have any formal training in being a mechanic but got stuck in and have successfully done things over the years that would scare even qualified people. Go for it, there are many (non-qualified) people on the forum that have also climbed in and tried (and succeeded). I regularly get phone calls from members here who are in the middle of trying to get something done, have come unstuck and are needing assistance to sort something out. I would think that most of the people racing in the BMW series are in this boat, non-qualified but willing to give it a go.. Good luck in your project, give me a yell if you need any more advice/assistance, but remember I am in the crazy far north so can't just drop in... (send PM) Will

Thanks Glenn, was planning to come down to see it tomorrow so saved a trip.. Brent, thanks, but I want to avoid a complete car if possible because I am already up to my eyeballs in e30 parts which are very difficult to get rid of because of my location and transport. But I will see and contact you if nothing else turns up. Sounds too expensive for what it is though.. Will

I'll hold you to that!

M10 never came with expansion tank. If it is to work, it has to be properly plumbed in, or all it ends up being is an overflow catch tank, in that the fluid dumped to it when the engine gets hot will not be sucked back when it cools.

not quite as sideways as I get in my M535... cant get sideways in the e36 vert, it has non-switchable-off asc ... but I am working on that!!!! KILL!!

using a battery charger that has a low amp charging rate. ie less than 1A. You can buy solar panel charges from places like repco that do this for you.

probably txting while doing 330kph..

Yes, that's mine. Not sold yet, had a few people interested but no takers yet. I was told by some random anklebiter some time back that I am far to old to drive a car like it and he would look far better in it... he now looks quite good with tyre treads across his face... Will

If you havn't installed it, that will be your problem. Look for 2 reasonably heavy wires - green/grey trace and green/blue trace and plug it in there. Alternatively you may be able to remove this wire if the switch was dash mounted and not on the centre console. Just look up under the dash cubby side and remove the extension wire and plug the male/female plugs together. If you are not sure what I am going on about give me a call. You will find both a constant +12V and switched +12V in the radio loom. Will

You guys are ALL treading on VERY thin ice here, be wary of us old goons in our verts... Will

Cheers Andrew. Thought of that and have spoken to Glenn earlier this morning about it, but needs full compliancing as it was registered after 1991, not just a glorified WOF if it had been registered prior to 1991. That means they go through it with a FINE toothcomb so it may not be worth it depending on the current condition. I will have to check it out first before deciding. Will

"A" beer??? Surely chased down with copious amounts of Jager...??

Thin grey wires with red stripe are positive light wires, as Glenn says, you might find one with the radio loom wiring or the ciggy lighter. Did you screw the earth wire for the wiper steering column switch securely to its mounting point? Windows might be the in line inhibitor switch, the big rectangular one with the red stripe around it, that is used to disable the windows.

Hi Glenn Thanks, I'll give you a call today. Will

Are you on ADSL? If so, what ADSL modem have you? Normally clearing cache etc cures this. I used to get it but havn't since I switched to Firefox. Will

same diameter, at least the ones I have.

Dash, centre console, handbrake lever, auto gearlever, steering rack, wiper mechanism are some of the bits required off the top of my head. Other things like carpeting, front seats having the airbag sensors on the wrong side, door lock mechanisms electrics wrong side etc. If you can source a donor car, that is the best way as you could swap out the wiring loom which is the biggest problem, however mine was a lhd convertible which has the soft top electronics integrated into the main loom, couldn't find any donor so had to do it the long way. Cost about 2.5K in parts and a VERY LONG time in labour. I am probably going to do a writeup on the conversion sometime so that will better describe what was involved. Will

318??? Hello Gus, UK surviving you?? What wheels you have over there? M3 yet?

I am looking for a e30 facelift coupe body shell in ANY condition for a project I am wanting to get busy with, but it MUST still be registered or have the rego on hold. I have just had to go through the compliancing drama with one of my other cars, and it is hell, so don't want to do it again if I can possibly help it, especially because what I am doing will envoke extreme scrutiny if it has to be re-complied. I will be getting the mods I am doing, certed, but don't need compliancing (and all the costs involved) on top of that. Accident damaged, partly complete whatever.. I only need the bare shell essentially, and can repair it if necessary as i have more than enough bits to do so. PM me/post here if you have anything. Will

been on the beach no fun though, has asc which cant be switched off Gus is growing up to be a totally irresponsible plonker like his namesake..

I have just completed a lhd-rhd conversion of an e36 (done by me personally). If the complexity of that is anything to go by, I wouldn't attempt to have it done as it is probably going to cost the earth, the main cost coming from having to relocate virtually every computer under the dash to the opposite side. I would NEVER undertake another e36 lhd-rhd conversion BTW.. As said above, rather get a lhd and take it over. My 2c worth.. Will

who needs nos when you have a size 12 one of these on your right foot... Hello Glenn, good to be back... by the way, have put those wheels I got from you to good use , they look really good on the vert..
