Seeing that there are tree huggers, why not boat anchor huggers??

Has anyone done a manual conversion to an e36 OBDII car? I am now considering putting one in my e36 vert as I am sick of the auto. Several people have done it to OBDI cars but none so far to an OBDII car that I have found. I just want to know what happens with the ABS/ASC, engine check etc etc. I have read the Bimmerforums writeup and have some idea but there seems to be some doubt as to what exactly will happen. (64 pages of yankee waffle!!! ) I intend to leave the 'box ecu in place and wire up the reverse lights, starter etc. I will remove the gearbox warning light also. Will I run into issues with the engine check system and the ABS/ASC checks? Don't give a toss about emission etc as some of the people in the USA seem to have to sort out. However, if anyone has gone down the route of getting the DME, instrument cluster etc reprogrammed, I would be interested to hear what is involved. My DME is chipped with some sort of Schnitzer chip so obviously wouldn't want to affect that!! Will

Hey, wash your mouth out, you are only as old as the slapper you are sleeping with!!! Fishing is fun!! Will

Problem is at 200k with the V8 motor you need to do cam chains, guides, tensioners, which is an expensive job! If you don't you can end up with a very sad motor! Also at this mileage the suspension is normally in need of what can also be an expensive overhaul. I am looking around for one so have done some extensive research into issues with these cars, and these two issues (in particular) are what put me off this particular one. Couldn't determine what work had been done to it. So cheap may not be so cheap after all! Will

Red is faster!! My e28 is Zinnoberrot, paint yours Brilliantrot (like my e30 vert) which is even redder!! Will

You need to find out where you are loosing coolant from. That loss may be giving you an air lock in your system which would help overheating. This is the first thing you need to do. Meantime bleed the system properly and see if that helps at all. When the car is at operating temp you should not be able to easily stop the viscous fan. I use a heavy leather welding glove and carefully stick my well-protected fingers gently onto the blades from the engine side and gradually try to stop the fan with increasing pressure. When the car is cold this will be easy to do, but should be very difficult when hot. BUT BE CAREFUL!!! If you can stop it easily as when cold, replace the viscous coupling. Check that your radiator fins are clean, especially if you have an aircon radiator in front. Use a pressure blaster set on fan and blow through the grill etc to force any dirt out. Maybe the waterpump belt is slipping?? Will

You will find that the SI batteries have probably died and leaked onto the board. Just remove the cluster, open it up, and use bicarb of soda and a fine brass brush and a fine screwdriver to clean up all push in contacts and the board. Finish off with an electrical contact cleaner. Buy some new batteries (with solder tags, makes life easy to solder back in) and change the batteries. I have also seen some people buy one of these plastic battery holders and use that externally instead of soldering the batteries onto the board. My M535 had virtually the exact problems you are having, I did the above and it is now 100%. I had to pull it apart more than once though to properly clean those tricky push in contacts though.. (what I used the fine screwdriver for) Will

I would suggest you find another mechanic. This one is either stupid or is trying to pull a fast one, either way you can only be a loser sticking with him! Try our sponsor Glenn, I know he knows his stuff! Will

I am not at home till later on in the week but brief spec of the car in response to numerous emails, PM's, txt etc. 1989 (I think), 325, manual, no LSD, A/C, OBC, Cruise, E/W, C/L, elect sunroof, 15 basketweaves, new black headliner, good upholstry, Mtec1 side skirts, shadowlined, about 180,000??? on the clock may be less not sure. Based on what tourings I know to have been sold lately I would be expecting at least 9K for it. Unless I get a very good cash offer above this figure it will be auctioned, if I don't get my price I will keep it. As I said I will only put it up for auction once I am satisfied the new car is good to go.. could take a week or 2. Will

Have a mint centre console with no holes, will drop it off sometime when I am down. N/C. Will

I have just bought the Dragon a new broom, so her mint E30 touring will be coming up shortly for grabs once I have satisfied myself that the new broom is all OK. There have been a number of interested parties over time, so I will put it on Trademe to be fair to all.... unless of course someone makes me an insane offer for it... It will not be sold cheaply in any case, if I don't get a decent sum for it, it will remain in my fold.. A couple of pics of it are currently on the gallery, I will add some more later. My sig pic has a shot of it on the rhs, taken a few days ago.. Will

327 eater is a MACHINE!!!! Can bounce off the rev-limiter for VERY long periods and survive..!! Would suggest you do something to secure the hose back if you don't want to use the bracket. Maybe also wrap the hose at that point of impact with a piece of thin sheet allie/tin/plastic??Another alternative is to convert to the F/L system where the hose is well clear of pulleys, but that would need new rad, w/pump and hoses. Plates are not a warrant issue, they couldn't care less what plates you have on when you take it for a warrant. They are only looking at issues that affect safety. Now Mr Plod on the other hand.... Will

There is a 'Z' shaped bracket you should have to hold that hose away from the alternator, it is mounted to the chassis rail and holds the hose close to the rail and away from the beasty alternator. Will

what kinda lip is this? and where to get those rear lights?
will replied to no_fat_chicks's topic in Appearance
Acetone would work but you need to be very careful with it, don't use any more than necessary and work quickly. Another would be lacquer thinners, is less aggressive but again you need to use sparingly and work quickly. Getting the stain out of the grooves across the lights will be tricky.. I use absorbant paper towel on a roll and change sheets regularly. Will -
Now that you have your 2 front teeth (only just..), what next?? HB Emma!! Will

You can only get as much air into the engine as the valve opening will allow in a N/A engine. Unfortunately the eta motor has rather small intake ports/valves. Has your standard TB got a TPS? If it has you will need to transfer it over to the new one if that one doesnt have one. Give it a go, see what happens... nothing ventured, nothing gained.. Will
