The EasyDIS v44 stuff (or v57 if you have the update data files) don't require an emulated diagnostic head. The software has been modified by Ken Fister to not require one. I have tried just about every single version of different diagnostic software there is out there and the EasyDIS stuff is the most popular and easiest to install (works great too). The Emulated head versions can work good provided you know how to modify the cable properly, otherwise you'll be left with certain modules not being accessible (usually the DME hidden menus and expert modes). What I have also found is the Native installs (if you have a physical diagnostic head) is a little bit more stable compared to the virtual machine versions. Nothing wrong with the virtual machine versions at all and they work great and are much easier to carry around - but when it comes to older cars having a proper diagnostic head is much better than compared to a modified DIS (i.e. EasyDIS). Also true if you are coding. Lot of the E36 stuff is ADS - which requires a different cable or a switchable OBDII-ADS cable. most of the time you can get away with manually configuring the system rather than having it automatically recognise - but that's another lesson for another day. Oh and INPA is great too and works much faster than the GT1, although you want to be careful when using INPA as most of coding versions out there are really old and if your car has a newer coding version it won't be backwards compatible.

I don't profess to know everything Graham, but I do know the KW range well enough (given what I have invested in it haha .. ##looks towards my rather depleted bank account##) The Competition range is a strictly race only product, so yes you are right, they are not for the road (The 3 way is their top of the range as seen in LOADED CSL that broke the ring record - and often seen in race winning cars in Germany) It's obviously not the be all and end all of all suspensions, but for the $ it's not too bad. The set up I have was part of hte original M3 CSL Cup regulation setup (22kg/mm spring rates) which will only work on slicks (far too stiff for semi). KW have come up with a solution for me without altering the shock characteristics and I've yet to try it out (have not had time to put them in the car yet). The one great thing about KW (other than their 7 post suspension rig) is with the competition stuff, each shock is individually numbered and KW motorsport keeps documented file on each and you can request a copy of the shock dyno (one below is from one of my front shock) They can also provide great setup data if you request it. The reason I've recommended the Clubsport version over V3 is mostly due to better valving and the additional bonus of top mount plates that usually come with the kit - the price difference between the v3 and clubsport is usually not substantial. Nothing wrong with the v3 at all, it is still a very capable setup. The clubsport valving do handle about 1/3 more spring rate compared and works with linear rate springs better, much more versatile as a result.

When I was needing some KW rebuild information on the Competition stuff I didn't get a reply when I emailed Chris at autoquip about it for some reason. Then eventually I got hold of the head of motorsport division in KW Germany through a guy in the UK who is part of KW itself and was told that no one in the Southern hemisphere deals with the Competition gear. This may have changed as I understand Chris is attempting to have KW supply for the local V8 race series (or something similar). But anything needing a rebuild has to go back to Germany (period). The price I quoted for the E9X M3 isn't retail (trust me I know what retail is). The Competition stuff is built to order and spec'd depending on type of racing and vehicle setup. The top mounts and springs used also affect the final pricing. The only reason I know what the E9X M3 stuff cost is because I got a quote done for a local race car recently. If you are looking at V3 I would personally recommend that you go straight to the clubsport stuff for a little bit more outlay.

Full race 2 way kit with all the mounts and springs is more like $6K with shipping and GST added - still cheap for what the kit is though. Compare this to KW's full 3 way monotube race setup and you won't see much change from $15,000 (I've priced up both with KW directly as I am on their race customer database). KW don't actually recommend the 2 way for the E9X M3, they said the 3 way kit is the only way to go for this car according to all their race data feedback. The E9X M3 has a very heavy interior. The electric seats are like 40kg each and the doors also similar. Remove all the seats and there's 100kg taken out. Change the doors to carbon and lexan and you'd save another 80kg. There's loads of weight that can be taken out of that car, it's almost ridiculous how much unnecessary weight BMW have added to it. If you can get one down to 1210 (same as the GTR weight) it'd kick some pretty serious butt!! That's a 4 door. Just painted Carrot from standard HP model with a Vorsteiner GTS3 front bumper.

I have to agree that for the price I'd rather have a GT3RS - less of an aftermarket parts bin special and more of a dedicated track racer. The M3 GTS does have KW suspension (2 way competition shocks to be exact). You can actually spec the GTS with a full cage. Seats are Recaro SPA The only cool thing out of the GTS for me is the 4.4 stroker motor - must be quite a beast to drive. But I agree, you can build one for loads cheaper and it'd be quicker too (and still have money left over to buy an used E46 M3 just because you can). The only thing that gives grief with the new E9X M3 with heavy track use is the rear diff. The gearbox has a pretty decent cooler on it, but the diff has really poor cooling when used in racing conditions.

Used set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres (tyres only, no wheels) fronts are 245/40/18 Rears are 265/40/18 I have way too many sets of these so need to get rid of one used set. These have had about 22K km travel but only about 15-20% worn - LOADS of life left. Only selling because I have 3 sets of these and I've run out of room to store them ... If memory serves, one tyre has had a puncture repair (but repaired properly and correctly and it NEVER leaks). $800 for the full set. Now on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...506&ed=true

Actually just on this - anyone know what sim works with Ipad 2?? Nobody seems to know. Got the wife one for her birthday and it suits her use well and loves it - I've asked around and no one seems to know what sim card it takes for the 3G - not even Vodafone. Anyone know for certain?

UHMW has one of the highest impact strengths of any thermoplastic and has excellent abrasion resistance, tensile strength, energy absorption, resistance to stress, cracking, and coefficient of friction properties. UHMW coefficient of friction is significantly better than nylon and acetal and is virtually the same as Teflon® but has superior abrasion resistance. Also it doesn't absorb moisture like Delrin/Acetal does. Delrin is easier to machine compared to UHMWPE which is the reason why it is often used - but for this application UHMWPE is best, but lot harder to machine (you lose about 35% of the material). If you want to read up more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-high-mo...ht_polyethylene

That's honestly an awesome looking home, looks very well thought out and designed. I've been house hunting since August last year and this is definitely up there in terms of presentation. Shame it doesn't have everything I am looking for otherwise I'd be around for a nosey. Good luck!!

I think if you did the maths you'll realise that we are talking about the same thing. Here's the mythbuster episode:

Sensationalism. They do it to make it sound like the occupants crashed at 200km/h when in fact the force experienced would have been half that. Newton's 3rd law wins (every action has an equal and opposite reaction - both car travelling at 100km/h head on = combined speed of 200km/h, but a crash force of only 100km/h) RIP to those killed.
-
I reckon you'll carry more speed into turn one if you stay out further to the left rather than middle of the track Josh - the apex I am told is on the start of the second rumble strip not in between the first and the second. Very cool video and the car sounds awesome!! Must be frustrating seeing the M5 get away on the long straights with that V10!! Have to say the M5 driving was all over the place (must be the weight thing) and didn't seem to turn in very well (alignment??).

Myself and quite a few CSL owners have purchased tyres from Tirerack. I put the other owners onto them because on average you save at least 40% off what the local retailers charge (currency dependent, sometimes you can save as much as 60% depending on brand). Tirerack will take credit card but it's a bit of hassle to get it done - what you need to do is get your local bank to authorise it and tirerack will approach their paying bank to get it done - takes way longer than just wire transfer. And to be honest, unecessary when you are dealing with such a large outfit. If you are emailing tirerack, email CY there (Cy Chowattukunnel - email [email protected] -he's very familiar with shipping to NZ and has done so many times (you can tell him Tom recommended if you like). Shipping tyres from the US can range from US$250 to about US$380 depending on size and weight. Tirerack uses Fedex and their shipping prices with them is second to none - you'd struggle to find a cheaper or faster from anywhere else (average about 5 working days to get here and clear customs - longest I've heard is about 8 working days. I once ordered a set of tyres on a Monday and I had them sitting at home by Friday) Be careful with buying tyres from overseas - some outfits will have really cheap tyres but which are couple of years old (and anything over 6 years old is really past the used by date in tyre Country). Everything from tirerack I've seen have been within a year of manufacture - so you are getting really fresh rubber. Sure they aren't the cheapest around, but they sure are the best I've dealt with in terms of tyre buying. And you are correct - 5% tariff on tyres and GST is on top of shipping, cost and the tariff aspect and then there's clearance fee (usually about $35). I'd never buy tyres locally unless the currency was back at 0.60, but anything over 0.7 it's worth importing.

^^ Cheers for the How To Matt!! Think I'll give this a go myself - doesn't look too hard at all.

5 sets I run these in my car and have been getting them for local racers and other CSL and M3 owners. All love the product and rate it highly.

That's honestly a pretty darn good job!! Mind telling me did you use fabric glue on the material and if you did, did you glue first then do the stitching or was it all just stitching? Have a steering wheel here myself that I've been meaning to attempt to rewrap with Alcantara.

Anyone heard from member Sami (BMW NZ) down in Christchurch? Works for Pacific Blue near the airport and lives near Hornby I think. I lent him a cable just before quake (it's back with me now), but last I heard from him was on the 21st. Sent an email to him to see how he was and no reply. Stay strong and condolences to those that have lost loved ones, friends or family.

It's a BMW NZ deal - none of the dealerships got this one ... Hate to say this, but the Labour Government had good tastes picking Bimmers Actually had one follow behind me on Sunday, I am pretty sure it was John Key ... kept trying to slow down to get a better glimps, but everytime I did the 7 series would slow down (I was in the lane next to it and it would always keep just behind me and never next to me). I must have looked too dodgy
