Andrew replied to mtk540's topic in Maintenance
Bit late but I've had that happen on my E39 (nearly exactly the same) and a nice reboot sorted it also. -
I imagine it is the same as any E30 325 one. Try Ray @ HELL BM - 021 2 HELL BM

Happy Birthday - Have a good one and hopefully we can have one or seven beers at a future taupo/welly meet. Cheers

The Victorian and Queensland governments are evaluating a device that can automatically slow a speeding car using satellite technology. The Australasian Intelligent Speed Adaptation initiative could be trialled in Victoria, the Herald Sun reported today. All states and territory governments and the New Zealand government have been in talks to introduce of the system. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon, several Victorian ministers, a former Victorian coroner and 45 other participants would be the first to try the speed reduction system, the report said. Other trials are planned this year in NSW and Western Australia, the report said. The technology uses GPS and a database that identifies speed limits on all roads and operates on three levels. Drivers get an audible warning they are over the limit at level one. At level two, the device cuts power to the engine to prevent the driver from speeding, but the system can be adjusted or overridden. At level three, the system cannot be switched off or adjusted and all speeding is cut. The device could be fitted to repeat speeding offenders, or to all vehicles. A spokeswoman for Roads Minister Tim Pallas would not confirm any trial, but Queensland Transport Minister John Mickel said his government was involved in the talks. "Technology is evolving all the time with these things, and my view with road safety is to see what the latest technology is and see if we can improve safety. Queensland Transport vehicle safety consultant Michael Paine said the system could cut the number of serious accidents by 20 per cent. The Herald Sun quoted an unnamed Victorian government website, which estimated the number of fatalities could be cut by almost 60 per cent if it was fitted to all cars. The system would cost between $A700 and $A2000 per vehicle and would first be fitted to fleet cars, the Herald Sun said.

Mercedes-Benz Cars sales rose 2.0 percent in 2007 for a record 1.29 million units. Sales were driven by the new 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and SUVs. Daimler sold 261,500 units of the new 2008 Mercedes C-Class in all of 2007, up 57 percent. Sales of Mercedes-Benz SUVs rose 6 percent to 180,100 units In 2007 we succeeded in laying the groundwork for sustainable, profitable growth, particularly with the market launches of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the new Smart ForTwo,†CEO Dieter Zetsche said. Sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand alone advanced 3.2 percent to nearly 1.19 million units. Sales at its Smart brand fell 10.3 percent to 100,600 units, while Maybach sales remained steady around 400 cars. BMW is already the 2007 market leader, after its group sales rose 8.3 percent to 1.35 million cars in the first 11 months.

Meet this Thursday - I will be there as usual. See ya there.

That would be great. Do double flares work just as well as bubble flares that BMW use? I don't have a tool to make bubble flares. Always wondered what the little thing was there - will leave mine in also. Update: Spoke to Ireland Engineering this morning - they say they have never had a problem with the 3.1 ltr kit.
-
Will probably head down for the Sunday.

I actually can't remember what it cost - around 250 I think which didn't seem too steep to me for a new MC. The part that was made was that circle spacer that you can see. It came with a pushrod extender (which I only found in the packaging later - so I had one made). Is about 5 cm long. Had Mark Herbert make the parts for me - didn't take him very long. Don't know how it will all work when it is under vacuum yet so fingers crossed. Something you may know Glenn - in the rear brake line it comes off the MC to the body of the car left hand side into a little.. thing (cylinder) that goes to the rest of the rear hard brake line. Is this just a thing to keep pressure in the lines or is it some sort of factory proportioning valve? Where did you plumb in your valve?
-
Yeah - hotrod ftw - with the stock mc (19mm) the pedal would always go to the floor with no feel and super softness with those front brakes. So i've gone for that with a rear brake bias adjuster and got me a pressure gauge for the calipers so I can set it up somewhat scientifically. This MC is 1inch - so 25mm-ish I guess.

Kinda makes me wish i didn't rip apart a perfectly good racecar hah.

Aston Martin Vantage GT2: Press Release: Aston Martin Racing reveals Vantage GT2 Aston Martin Racing has revealed the first impressions of its new GT2 racing car. Known as the Vantage GT2, the new car is based on the V8 engined Aston Martin Vantage road car. The new car will mean Aston Martin is the only manufacturer to offer cars in every GT racing category: GT1 – DBR9; GT2 – Vantage GT2; GT3 – DBRS9; GT4 – Vantage N24. For the first time, Aston Martin Racing is designing this car to run on either standard race fuel or E85 bio-ethanol (where regulations allow). In 2007, Aston Martin Racing successfully converted a standard DBRS9 to run on E85. Robin Brundle, Aston Martin Racing’s new managing director, said: “The new Vantage GT2 completes our product portfolio for 2008 with competitive cars now available in every category. Thanks to our experience with the DBRS9, we have been able to develop a bio-ethanol fuelled version, which will be eligible to compete in an increasing number of series now accommodating this greener fuel, including the American Le Mans Series.†Aston Martin chairman, David Richards, will be announcing Aston Martin Racing’s 2008 plans at the Autosport International show on Thursday 10 January at 10.45 am.

Looking good - welcome aboard

Badass - well done.

That cam will not work with your pistons. It is as simple as that. (Look in race car go faster thread to see why)

Been away from the computer/bimmersport for a few weeks to get a bit of a break. Have been working on the racecar. Some bad news unfortunately. After Gavin from High Velocity had fully assembled my motor he realised the piston/valve clearance is not correct. Ultimately the valves to do not line up with the cut outs in the pistons. This is due to the cam and a few other factors. Plan is now to go back to Ireland engineering and get 11:1 CR pistons and machine them ourselfs as needed. Plus side is we will have even more power (think 8000rpm if we can find the rocker gear to do it). Doesn't look like I am going to make Pukekohe/Taupo at the end of Jan and beginning of Feb. Lots else done on the car though. Nice tidy wiring loom all redone. Grafted a willwood master cylinder on to the stock booster and lots of other little tweaks (yes i had to make the brake lines myself, yes I will be redoing them as it was my first time with a flaring tool and the bending tool was vise grips). Custom firewall made out of this heatmat shizzle. Works quite well. Wheel studs finally also. Some piston/valve clearance pics

With the launch of the 1-Series coupe/convertible, the M3 coupe/sedan and the X6 all scheduled for this year, BMW sure has its work cut out for 2008. However, BMW isn’t stopping there. The auto maker is now working on branching into a totally new segment, giving its lineup more than just passenger cars and SUVs. Work is under way on the company’s first stab at an MPV-ish vehicle, or better known as Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) by BMW. The BMW PAS is expected to be powered by a choice of four, six and eight-cylinder gasoline and turbodiesel engines, available in rear-wheel-drive only. According to AutoCar the car may carry the badge ‘V5′ when it hits roads in late 2009 in the UK. U.S. will get its version sometime in 2010. Expect a concept version of the PAS at the 2008 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Some auto makers may get a little frightened when Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson gets his hand on their latest creation - well not in this case. Clarkson recently got behind the steering wheel of BMW’s new 135i coupe and had nothing but nice things to say about the little pocket rocket. He even went as far as to say that the ‘135 coupé is the best car BMW makes,’ giving the car a five star rating. As many of you know, the 135i coupe is powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and a peak torque of 300 lb-ft. That gives the 135i the ability to do 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 155mph. In his article on TimesOnline, Clarkson writes: “…it’s the engine that impresses most of all. It has one small turbo to spin up the instant you apply the power, and then a bigger one that trundles into life later to keep the power coming . . . in bigger and bigger lumps. This, and there’s no other way of saying it, is a great engine. A masterpiece. It doesn’t zing like the BMW straight-sixes of old but there’s so much muscle you don’t notice. Then you leave the motorway and the road gets twisty and it’s like settling into your favourite armchair. The steering, the feel, the way you can adjust your line through the bend with the throttle. There is no other car made today in this sector of the market that gets even close. If you love driving, this is up there in a class of one. Of course, a Mitsubishi Evo or a Subaru Impreza will grip more and slingshot you from bend to bend with more urgency, but if you prefer a more flowing style - less grip and more handling – then you would be better off with the little Beemer.†Head over to TimesOnline to read his full review. 2008 BMW 1-Series Coupe Gallery:
