  1. Already ditched it... So I hope I don't need it!! Pretty certain it does nothing except heat the cats for emissions testing and get in the way of supercharger installs. I've removed the rear cats anyway but will check with Gavin anyway.
  2. haha! I wish I could do it that fast but neither my skill or my bank balance will make that possible! Should be in by your next visit. I'd love to supercharge a 540i touring... In fact, I'd love a 540i touring. Might see you at the zoo - I live nearby and my boy's a member so we're there a lot (I mean A LOT!)
  3. I would... But I don't think it will fit your 525i, I'm afraid
  4. Nope, most of the kit goes where the stock airbox is and normally you'd have to refit the secondary air pump upside down to make room for the new airbox which sits behind the front bumper - since I've already removed the SAP it's no biggie. The metal pipes you can see in the box are the new a/c hoses to accommodate the SC. I will have to unhook the A/C whilst installing but mine could do with a re-gas anyway.
  5. Cool! Happy to accept all the help I can get. Planning to do it at Martin's place - he has a well setup garage. Not sure exactly when yet... Needs a whole weekend, I think, plus a flat bed truck or similar to get it to Hi Velocity once installed. Plus I need to save up for the tune and cert!!
  6. It's Christmas!!!! This just arrived...

    I don't get it?

Fair point... And globally it'll no doubt be a huge success but can't help thinking that it will cannibalise the 3er market in NZ, just like the A5 did to the A4 in NZ. You don't see many new A4 sedans around now but every 10th car's an A5. Presumably there's a 4-door A5 that the gran coupe 4er is competing with?

    It's back

Of course her driving skills are supreme but she ain't no oil painting.

    I don't get it?

I'm sure the 4 coupe will be popular (god knows there are enough E46 and E9x) coupes here but presumably the 4 gran coupe and the standard 3 sedan will just split the existing market for mid-size four door sport sedans, rather than creating a whole new market.
  10. It completely depends on where in the UK it's from. Southern UK gets no more snow than most of North Island NZ but north of the midlands the roads will be salted most winters... It's the salt you have to watch. If the car lived on the South coast of England and didn't drive north of the Watford Gap it won't be any worse than an NZ new in terms of potential rust.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/bmw/10614289/BMW-reveals-4-series-Gran-Coupe.html Create the new 4 series to define the coupe from four door 3 series... Then make a 4-door gran coupe 4 series.... At least the 6 series looks really different to the 5ers. This just looks like a 3 series sedan to me. Marketing.... Pah!
  12. If you want to live in a wooden shed and pay $1M+ for it then I can heartily recommend Ponsonby and Grey Lynn. If you want the same house painted white and have $2M, St Mary's Bay and Herne Bay are both spiffing too. Joking aside though, there's a reason Ponsonby and GL are so bloody expensive... So much to do, great restaurants, bars, cafes, etc. Shopping's good. Everything is convenient (CBD 5mins, North shore 10 mins, motorways all accessed in less than 10mins)... But you pay for convenience, especially if you want a house with foundations, bricks and a garage. PS I can rent you an underground parking space for the M5 at my office... Mates' rates EDIT: Oh, I forgot, there are some decent swimming beaches within 5 mins as well.
  13. They've either been tinted illegally or the owner has bought some smoked tail lights... They love that sort of thing in the USofA.
  14. This close to my office this morning. Always thought the frozen paints were a bit gimmicky but have to say close up it looks way better than any wrapped car I've ever seen.
  15. They're an aluminium/magnesium alloy. Acid dip is fine as long as you don't leave it in there for too long and clean it thoroughly afterwards though I media blasted mine to provide a better surface for powdercoating. Agreed re: the inside covers. Opted out of powder coating when I found out the high temp powder's brittle and dislodges easily. Engine's looking much better.
  16. Never ending, eh Mike?! I put the valve covers back on. No oil leaks and the car works... Job done. (sorry about the low light phone pic)
  17. I want the steering wheel. Dibs if someone buys this for the engine!
  18. hahah! It hasn't arrived yet so I'm preparing for it. Gotta fit the f***ing drive-shaft safety loops which is a bit of a drama and need to save enough to tune and cert it once it's installed so it might be a little while yet! Got some brand new rotors and pads to go on next so it will slow down with the extra power.
  19. Got the covers back. Pitting's still really obvious but they look way 100% than before and the powder coat finish is top notch (thanks to Powderworks in Onehunga). Could have filled the pitting but various sources recommended against this as it would not flex exactly as the alloy cover with constant heating and cooling so would eventually compromise the powder coat. Only alternative was weld filling and that would have been more dollars. All up cost me $125 to strip and powder coat so for that money I'm really happy with them. If I was being fussy I could always apply some wrinkle black paint over the powdercoat which would hide the pitting but the finish on the rest of the covers wouldn't look as good IMO.
  20. ... but this guy is dreaming! http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=691563045 Yeah, that well-known Singaporean BMW factory is weak.
  21. It's entirely possible. He could try cleaning the existing ones first. Some of them might be salvageable and Ray at HellBM will be able to supply replacements for the ones that aren't.
