MLS Headgasket question
Boost Junky replied to Boost Junky's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Cheers m, ill be stripping the head off get the valves grinded hopefully and do valve stem seals, plane the head clean the block surface right up. The MLS gasket im using (0.140") reduced compression to around 8.5:1. I will hopefully run 13-18psi. Luke -
MLS Headgasket question
Boost Junky replied to Boost Junky's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Oh well too late now have ordered my MLS Cometic gasket from the States, should be here in a few weeks... was talking to Gus and he said to run standard headgasket with stronger ARP studs but such a hard decision with so many guys in the states running the MLS gaskets I thought I'd try the MLS... no offence Gus your theorys made perfect sence and have much respect for your input and help but as I have a spare block to play with im going to test down this track and if im proven wrong I could end up with a very expensive bill if the head needs replacing... ...money tends to place a big part in this forced induction game, im gambling with running the headgasket so will let you guys know in a few weeks if it pays off, if not I will have a blown block and maybe stuffed head. In this case I will setup a a motor with standard thickness headgasket and stronger ARP Head studs to see how she handles. As discussed with Gus the headgasket is the weakest point in the motor and is much more convenient blowing than any other part etc.. rods or the head... But like Gus has said we are no experts in when it comes to forced induction and it is a matter of trial and error... my tuner has advised me too lower the comression to 8.1:1 so will be going down this track by using the MLS headgasket. Results will be revealed in the near future. Cheers, Luke -
Hahah crack up. Kinda scary when you watch the 2nd add so true though elmarco about us slowly invading them

Hey guys, probably going to order my MLS gasket from the states tommorow night. Just wondering if anybody knows the risk of running the 0.140 thickness or any MLS gasket for that matter withouth the ARP studs. Pain in the ass thing is, the studs have to go right through and hold your end caps on, on the crankshaft. I see alot of guys use them in the states and alot of guys dont. Is it just added protection? I was just going to get brand new factory bolts as they are torque yeild anyway. Cheers for any help in advance. Luke

Yep sure are, I had my sump off a few months back and applied thread lock to that nut while it was off as a precaution before the car goes back on the road again Apparantly the RB Nissan motors are also known for this also.... more so the GTR motor correct me if im wrong?

Haha and the rest, wonder what happend?

Whoa dude! Thats pretty mangled lol

Ahh yes an older one, was told that the older ones have a bit more go. Yeap definitely no mucking around when your on a bike. Notice after you've rode a bike for a while you also become more alert and aware of things more in a car than you would have been if you had never rode a bike? Is it true that the ducatis are alot less friendly than the jappa bikes in cornering? Aparantly you have to really lift them out of the corners where as a jappa will pop back up alot easier?

Sweet thats awesome Glenn! Give us the full story when you can

What do you think of the CBR250RR man? What year is it? My workmate has a GSXR750 93 shape and all I can say is 'Idiot'. Purchasing the bike for one with no license... Second of all hes ran from the cops twice, got caught the second time (last Sunday) doing 100km past a car in an 80km zone. He saw a mufti cop turn and come after him so he dropped her down and was doing roughly 180km/hr into a 50km zone. Normally his bike can do higher speeds than this but since he ran it out of fuel a few weeks prior it now runs like a sack of s**t. The police car managed to just keep up and find where he went... He could have been done for failing to stop, speeding and 40km over the speed limit instant loss of license court etc.. failing to have a motorbike license and his bike confiscated on the spot. Instead the officer told him he doesnt want him having a record on his file being so young it will be a pain when he wanted to go overseas, but he also doesnt want to be peeling him off the road so he let him off with $720 of fines and took his keys and told him to walk the bike home As you can see theres a few reasons why he shouldnt even own a bike and also the fact that his father is in a home now for hitting a car pulling out of a intersection in a 50km/hr zone and he was doing 180km. Now brain damaged and speech impared for life... like thats not enough to put him off? Bikes are something that should be riden with much respect, awareness and sensibility. They are just too risky otherwise. Anyway end of my little story, back on topic haha!

I have been looking at buying a bike in the last few weeks off trademe but decided to wait till I have a bit more cash under my belt. Dad owns a Honda Hornet CBR900 that rides real nice I myself would love a CBR1000RR the 09 model: Being realistic though with not even my learners I would settle for a CBR250 to begin on. Nice Ducatis there Spottswoode! I'd be seen on one of those

Well thats a big turn around from what you've experienced in the past Martyn I remember reading a while ago about your past experiences. Makes things so much more pleasant when things are worked out and resolved right? And then on top of that doing the work free of charge, they obviously realised they had pissed you around in the past and decided to make things right again. Good for you! And like you say its easy to rant on about the bad experiences but good on you for sharing this one good experience with us. Did you ever find out about the jerk that emailed you? Luke

For sure! Happens more than you think especially in this day and age.... sadly theres to many dishonest people out there and more should I say greedy people out there..

Whoa thats hard luck. I've experienced a similar but not quite the same situation in the past and ended up having to pay a repo to get my car back. Too right about 98hrs of labour whoa Can the police do anything about the numbers or the phone company? The ones that worked yesterday anyway...
