Shot man good idea has this section just been made?

Well its been a while and I have been slack so havnt got alot done in the last 3 weeks. Waiting a month and a half for a simple head to be fixed doesnt make a good motivator! So I got round to mounting the new 16" fan, pollished my rocker cover and a few other little bits and pieces like mounting the ECU. Im having issues determining which wire going into the back of my gauge cluster is the Engine Speed Signal AKA RPM. Anyway heres some pics to bore you guys.... Where my radiator and fan will be placed, not alot of room... Fitting the fan to the radiator, I opted out for using the bolts for a stronger hold. The E30 radiator having no overflow reservior is relatively large anyway so a few fins sacrificed here and there wont hurt... Here you can see the bolts comming through from the fan side with the washers to stop the bolt from pulling through... Fan mounted... Radiator and fan all in place... Heres some images of my rocker cover pollished... Stage 1: Stage 2: Stage 3: Finished product:

Oh tru all good yea mean gotta come up and pick some wheels up sometime and visit some friends be mint to have a look at the beast!

Oh ur in Welly Brad? Im probably moving down there as soon as my conversion is done or not long after. Will have to see this puppy sometime! Luke

Yea your right they are possible to get off after a little effort haha. Sux aye how you gotta do a whole lot of work just to get one rounded bolt off! Thats the way it goes though, if we expected none of that to happen then life would be to easy lol. Must be mate I know plenty of guys not using the top bolts and never had any issues. I guess at the end of the day the dowels will stop the gearbox from turning and the remaining bolts hold the gearbox on. And by no means do I gurantee it so dont take my word for this haha I hold no liability if you decide not to use them Luke

Is there any point in doin' a manual conversion??
Boost Junky replied to chris-mazon's topic in Performance
Im pretty sorted as far as the wiring goes and even have a photo of the plug where the wiring has been altered to suit the conversion if you need I can step you through that bit of it and any other issues also.. -
Well thats a bit more reassuring! Wonder if my ZF box is the same as yours though 3peadals? When you say the right one do you mean the one that is meant to go with each certain motor? eg. i got the m50b25 with a zf box of a m50b25 Luke

Is there any point in doin' a manual conversion??
Boost Junky replied to chris-mazon's topic in Performance
Depends how you are going about it mate. In my case im doing the engine and manual conversion at the same time so actually having the gearbox sitting in and bolting it all up I had to have the block ready to go in also. But if you have all the parts there and ready to do the conversion id say about 10hrs max prob less for me I dont know your mechanical capabilities so it all depends. As far as im concerned there are people in here who have spent alot of time helping out others and willing to give free advice and I respect them greatly and you should too man its the least you can do for the friendly advice and help we in the bimmersport community have to offer. Yea im so so hoping i dont moneyshift mine! maybe i should purchase brand new engine mounts to help lessen the chances? Thanks for the thumbs up Rick atleast I will be aware of this now haha kinda dont want the ZF box anymore lol. Yea less work with the ZF but now with the moneyshifting issue im a bit worried not like my gearbox or motor is overly common here in nz i could be looking at a descent bill if this happens. Yea I heard about the 1:1 ratio this will mean high rpms in 5th at 100km etc rite? What ratio diff do u rekon? Luke

Boost Junky replied to chris-mazon's topic in Performance
Definitely worth it mate and as Jimmy said put a 2.5 in. Prices will also depend on what you can accomplish yourself... just finished my manual conversion the other day was'nt that difficult really, finding parts however was a different story. Luke -
help wanted mounting a 12" box in E36 Coupe
Boost Junky replied to charlie01's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Yea i bolted mine in also used an L bracket skrewed it to the Box and latched the other part of it to the back of my boot where the rear of the seat rests i bolted it there so you cant even see the bracket. Only pain here is you have to take the rear seat out to get it out (good though when it comes to security etc) -
Yep, lets in 35% light. You will find most places that tint these days cover a lifetime warrenty on their job.

So very true Gus! The arm that runs across to the brake booster was what stumped me because the fat pin that holds the rod onto the pedal box is taller than the ammount of space it has for you to pull it out! I spent hours swearing at it lol! Haha yea rounded bolts are a nightmare dude, alot of people leave their top bellhousing bolts off mate, more so the drifters who are regularly pulling their gearbox's out

Hey guys, Does anyone know if i can use the Switch comming out of my E30 radiator to switch on my aftermarket fan? It has three pins. This is what I have gathered so far (correct me if im wrong) T1 = Temperature 1 (Turns the fan on at a certain temp and only allows the fan to spin at a certain speed) T2 = Temperature 2 (Turns the fan on at a higher temp and allows the fan to spin faster or full speed) 0 = the wire that goes to the +ve power supply or ignition I wired my relay up that came with my aftermarket fan it has 4 pins: - Earth to the fan and earths to the body of the car also - Positive to the fan - Ignition wire with a temperature switch in series with the wire to activate the fan at a certain temp - Main power supply to +ve on the battery So I wired everything as it should be to the car and wired T1 in series with the ignition wire and dipped it in boiling water to see if it would turn the fan on and had no luck. Should I just get a single stage replacement temperature switch or can this switch be used?

Indeed it is brad Haha yea oh well atleast you got that motor to drive that barge lol and nice too know ur sitting inside something that is nice and solid always good for peace of mind. Oh right I used to have the option when i posted images using photobucket but it seems not to be there anymore... thanks tho

Oh dear, not really what I wanted to hear haha! So I guess the m3 one is even harder to find again? How do you know if its a 2L or a 2.5L box? Might pay for me to hit some of the guys up on bimmerforums see if they have had much experience with them. Thanks for the info Brent.

Tru tru might give them a go then chur Jonty Luke

Just wondering if any of you know the reputation of the ZF M50 5 Speed box's? How strong they are and what kind of thrashing they take... I know they are rare and want to make sure I treat mine in consideration of what kind of treatment it can handle. Thanks in advance guys Luke

So today i got my modified drive shaft back and bought me a descent pod filter. Had to use the E34 front half drive shaft as that is the one that fits to the E34 gearbox. However this is obviously not a direct fit, I had to have it shortened to 715mm from the face that mates up with the gearbox mount to the end of the spline on the other end. The spline going into the half shaft had to be cut of the original E30 front half shaft and welded to the end of the E34 front shaft as it has a different setup than the E30. Couldnt be bothered setting up the factory E34 air box in my E30 and to be honest it didnt look like it would fit anyway so i bought a FRAM Air Hog Pod Filter which are in direct competition with K&N filters in the united states and perform identically but only cost half the price & then theres of course my discount through work will eventually make up a cold air box for it if i dont head down the forced induction road, no doubt i will as its in my nature It seems that the dude rebuilding my head is going on vacation for two weeks in oz and wont have the welding done till he gets back! Hes known to be real slow and slack but does an exceptional job so going to be delayed on starting her up! Cheers, Luke New front half of driveshaft made up from E34 & E30 front halfs... E30 Uni joint welded to E34 front half shaft When I had the modified shaft made i allowed it to be 20mm shorter so to allow for movement of the gearbox and diff... looks like my measurements were a little more than 20mm im hoping theres plenty of spline inside the rear shaft im pretty sure there is though Bolted to the gearbox doughnut... FRAM Air Hog Pod Filter with bracket... The mounting bracket for the pod filter simply clamps behind the hose clamp on the pod filter, the other end you bolt to a desired place on the engine bay... Finished Wiring Harness... Will keep you updated
