Boost Junky

Hey guys, I went to drop the M50 into my E30 today and the engine mounts im using sit about 30cm in front of the point where they are meant to sit in the chasis. I bought E28 525i mounts of brent but only the rubber bits, he says that i need the arms of the E36 or do i need the arms of the E28 525i? As far as i know i need arms that angle backwards towards the mounting points on the chasis not forward like the ones on the M50 E34 motor are doing now. The back of the motor is pretty much touching the firewall and it still needs to go back another 30cm..... Cheers, Luke

Oh good wasn't to sure but thats always good to hear, still has plenty of meat left on it also. So as far as there being no springs in it, is that just normal on a bmw clutch or the clutch for this gearbox?

Hey all, got my ZF 5 Speed E34 gearbox last Monday along with the clutch that was in the car, everything seems to be mint. One thing that caught me by suprise is the clutch plate itself is springless... is this normal or? I've never seen a standard clutch that has no springs. The brand name stamped on the clutch is LUK pretty sure I read something about them on bimmerforums about them being crap... heres some pics:

So the ECU Loom etc will plug straight into an E30 an run the motor ollie? If so who wired/setup the electrical side of things for you, would be keen on the loom etc as mops is interested in everything else maybe i could make up the difference? Very interested if this saves me wiring my M50 setup. I also would like to know how to get the topic views of that annoying tab format, bit off topic but damn its annoying! Cheers, Luke

Hey guys got my ZF 5 Speed box for my M50 Conversion today. The Cross member that comes with the ZF box is wider than the auto cross member off my 318i E30. Will a manual E30 Cross member fit up properly? Also Does anyone know which driveshaft I will need to use? Cheers, Luke

Ok guys so I have sourced everything i need for my M50 + Manual conversion in my E30. Last thing to be sorted is powering the M50 when its all sitting in there. I am getting the full engine/ECU loom with the motor so was hoping i dont need to rewire between the ECU and motor makes sense... Im guessin there will be a few wiring jobs i need today for example tempereature gauge and a few other small components? I have been searching across various message boards including bimmersport and cannot find a link i saw a few weeks ago about making a conversion harness does anyone know the where abouts of this particular post? Also does anyone have any wiring diagrams or methods as I am capable of doing the job just need to know what wires need to go where. Cheers, Luke

Oh aye so the E30 Cross member off my Auto box should bolt directly to the ZF box? Be mint if that is the case. Found it from a wreckers, $1200 havnt actually purchased it yet have to wait for Dad to get back from Australia next Monday for him to pay for it so dont wanna say where it is lol u know just in-case...

Where did u guys get the brake booster kits for a MKII Golf/ Audi 88? What exact parts did u use/I need? $600!!! Write up anywhere? Cheers, Luke

Cheers Jake, mint didnt really know the quality/strength of them i suppose being getrag it should be relatively descent though. Have actually found a M50 ZF 5spd tranmission with clutch, x member etc now so am going to go with that. Costing me $1200 so all im needing now is the VW Golf MKII Brake booster setup. Does anyone know if the ZF 5spd gearbox will bolt upto the E30 M40 Auto trans driveshaft? Luke

Hey there, Was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the Getrag 260 gearbox bolting up to an M50B25 motor? I know the have about a 15deg lean but wondering if they bolt up to the motor? Theres an auction on trademe for one and need to know asap as the auction finishs at 7pm plzzzzzz help haha Cheers, Luke

Yea I was gonna meet him halfway but Mainfreight are still cheaper than driving there and back by far, by the time u go on a road trip u tend to spend money on food etc on the way haha. Just trying to find out if i can get it any cheaper than mainfreight otherwise ill be putn me towbar back on and going on a road trip

Oh thats right i knew that haha! Yea nah the Motor is from an E34 so should drop in using the E28 mounts i have.

p.s dont u mean from a E34? E36's are the 4 cyl arnt they? or does it not matter?

Oh thought they did, my bad hah. Yea pretty hard finding a ZF 4 speed i will keep hunting though. Umm got it for $600 with both intake and exhaust mani, AFM, All pumps starter motor etc, loom, ECU, Radiator and hoses and engine mounts. Was gonna be $1100 for it all but cracked head between exh valve seat and water jacket on cyl 3 so hes taken off more than what it will cost me to get it rebuilt (providing theres no other damage to head) A guy I know at the rebuilders said he knows of a certain BMW motor that has descent pistons that will be ideal for boost so will put them in if its to expensive for forgies. Going to buy a LINK before i even look at buying a turbo made that mistake once before with my honda. Have a friend who can make me a top mount manifold can do the rest myself pretty much. Probably consider a thicker metal head gasket and replace all big end/main end bearings seals etc

Would a Getrag 240 5 Speed gearbox be strong enough for an M50B25 Motor in my E30? I want to Turbo the motor in future so am bringing that into consideration as well. Cheers, Luke

Is to fit an M50 which should fit anyway. Condition unknown dont really want to have to pull it to bits etc but beggers cant be pickers i guess.
